Yeah it's really contradicting to advocate training when a muscle is recovered or you're leaving gains on the table, but also be in the same boat of no direct front delt training because pressing. There's no way having a 3 to 1 tricep/front delt training volume is "optimal".

Man. So much advice. I like it. 43 years old and doing the same like you. Garage gym and loud music. And hefting, always. Because i love it. Keep going man, dont irritate to much on others, the P-necks. Focus on yourself
You're right about the "blowing your back" bit, that sht used to happen to me by literaly trying to move a sofa or whatever, a chair even. You just grab it wrong, with your back in a bad position and there you go, you're back gets freaked. But when you can deadlift 225lbs for many reps, there's no way that a freakin bucket of coal is gonna be a problem.
You can't pick up stuff "wrong". Your presumed "bad position" is only bad, because you aren't experienced and strengthened this position. There aint no wrong movement. Only movements that your body isnt regularly exposed and challenged in.

Ricky is a voice of someone who understands science on a deeper level. Hypertrophy research is a new field of science (20th century), and really complex science because of all the different factors involved. He understands that and goes one level up: new things are being found all the time, so many gaps to fill: because you can't really base your training on this science because its not ripe yet, this means that you need to experiment and put things to test to accelerate the development of a solid body of knowledge
Exactly. He’s not anti-science, he’s using the gym for data. We don’t need to wait for every study to come out- get in the gym and run the experiments yourself. Experiment with rep ranges, range of motion, intensity, different splits, various exercises, and you can find out what actually works, without needing a PHD. The gym is the laboratory
