Hi Anthony, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you so much for the most invaluable source of information from your channel. Your cattle are well looked after and really show your experience in this field. Not many people are willing to impact their knowledge and time like this, so thank you. We have a large supply of white corn and maize stova for roughage. What protein, energy products, including portion sizes, would you recommend for formulation of the best pen fattening meal for our cattle? Also, what formulation would you give to cattle just arriving in the pen and not used to the fattening program? Sorry for the long message, I know you are very busy. You are free to respond with a voice message as well. Kind regards
Hi Simba, Thanks for the comment! Where are you from? The reason for my question is because I'm not the best person to answer your question. I don't have much experience in the ingredients you mentioned for feedlot purposes. What I would suggest is that you download the Voermol app and see what they advise. Of course this would only be helpful if you're in South Africa and have access to their products. I know that you could use extruded soya meal as a protein source - once again if you have access to that. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Ho SimKash, Thanks for the comment! Look up Johan Zietsman on TH-cam. He has some collaboration with Jaime Allezondo where they High Density graze wooded areas. I don't have any experience myself but there are sevetal examples where people have been able to sufficiently thin out the wooded areas so that the grass can come up. Another option is to use goats. Do you have any?
Congratulations from Botswana! In some Setswana dialects in Botswana the bull calf colour is tuba. In Se-Kgatla dialect the same colour would be thokwa. The positive change of attitude on the part of some SA commercial towards indigenous cattle breeds is good.
Hi Sheba, In sesotho sheba translates as "look" and as such I'd like to thank you for "looking" at my video and commenting! 😉 Thanks for the info - it's much appreciated!
the easiest way is the pelvic examination which is hard for good conditioned animals, but the one i have come to use recently is tummy size, a few days before calving a cows right side of the tummy gets bigger than the left side
Hi Ntebogang, Thanks for your input - however..... I'll take a video tomorrow of my Tuli cow that calved 1 month ago. Her tummy is still bigger on the right hand side.... I also used to believe that until my tulis calved....
Sorry to be watching late but my niece is home from Veterinary University and she only had a little time home before going back for her final year. So spending as much time with her as I can. Very nice calfs!
Congratulations. Heifers are always deceptive. My drakensbergers kept me guessing the whole time this calving season. Had a 2022 heifer my vet preg tested her and said she will calf down in December but the calf dropped end of October... Tiny calf but can be expected from a 26month old heifer.
Congratulations on the new calves! This might be slightly off-topic, but have you ever considered using barley sprouts as a supplement for your cattle instead of conventional feeds? With drought conditions affecting many areas, it could be a sustainable alternative. What are your thoughts on hydroponics in general?
Hi Johan, Welcome to the channel! Yes I have looked into the barley sprouts. I don't know enough about it to make an educated decision but I know there are farmers using it successfully. At the same time I'm not currently rigged to do it successfully - I first need to sort out my water & water lines. I do believe that it may be a viable option when I decide to finish off my own cattle on farm. If you have any good info please feel free to share!
@shanecotty3275 I have watch a few youtube videos and know there is a company called Feedgrow that sells the units, but don't know much more on the topic
Congrats champ! They are beautiful

Hi Tebogo,
It's a small farm by commercial standards. 270ha.

Thanks Anthon, the Voermol app very helpful.
I'm watching from Namibia, we are mostly in wood land covered with trees less grass what's your advice?
Ho SimKash,
Thanks for the comment!

Yes I have goats, just started with goats, Thanks again.
You are doing a great job

Thanks! I think so too!

Hi John,
Sorry for the late reply!
No worries - enjoy your daughter while she's home!
Hope you guys have a blessed christmas.
Congratulations.

Hi Richard,
Thanks! Yes, heifers are certainly more deceptive as they don't stick to the rules!
Maar hierdie videos laat my darem bietjie by die huis voel!
Congratulations on the new additions 🎉.
Buhle stresses me around that bull calf 😟.
Thanks! She stresses me out too! Hopefully she will stop soon.

Congratulations Sir🎉 the herd is getting big😊
Thanks Musa, slowly but surely!
@shanecotty3275 You are motivating me each time I watched your contents ❤🙏
Great video's, don't you think having a kraal for the pregnant heifers would've helped you in managing their deliveries? Glad you didn't lose a calf.
Thanks! Problem with a kraal is - when do you put them in? My skills at determining expected calving day are still way too poor !
Good day
Welcome back!
Can't wait to buy my first Nguni's 😊
Can't wait to see the bull calf in 3 years it's going to be a beauty
They are amazing cattle!
Neither can I! Even just 6 months from now. I think he's going to be stunning!
I think is hard Mashona cattles not Nguni
They're registered (pure)Nguni heifers from Gariep Nguni stud from the Northern Cape. They have no Mashona influence.
No mashona in these animals - although mashona is an ecotype of the nguni.
Congratulations
Thanks!
How old are Mbali and Buhle?
Hi Benath, they are both 27 months old.
@shanecotty3275 thank you, have you bred any cows under 2 years old?
Are they from the Tuli bull?
Wish you get some rain
Hey Mtho, so do I! Also hope those that need it more get as well!
