  • In this episode Pops and Me go in search of 'Kevin'!
    For those in the know Kevin is a bit of celebrity in the North West of England, a male Kestrel that has become used to the local people who put out some food for him. Now I know that feeding wildlife is not everyones cup of tea however, Kevin has lived well beyond his natural years and still looks in fantastic condition. The food is only a supplement and Kevin can be seen regularly hunting.
    Let me know your thoughts in the comments on whether food should be given to wild animals?

    Great stuff as always Dan & Stu. We're very fortunate to have these interests in common & to be able to share them with our Father's is just great. My Dad is 76 this year & we have 2 weeks in Scotland booked in September & he's really excited about it. I took him to Bempton cliffs in 2021, & Mull/Aviemore/Loch Garten & Alan"s hides in Kirkcudbright & Castle Douglas last year. This year it's 10 days on Mull to begin with, & a few other things planned afterwards too.
    It's just fantastic seeing mu Dad excited & pleased with what he has seen & photographed. We must meet up sometime Dan, the 4 of us do a vlog together & as you would say "See what we see". Great stuff as ever mate.
    Keep on keeping on.
    Best,
    Nick

      I’m up for a vlog with the 4 of us that would be a great day out I’m sure 👍🏻

    Great images - got to say that I think the 100-400mm images look better than the 500mm. Pretty sure I heard a Kingfisher about 7 minutes in when you were by the river.

      @danwillis_photography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Keith, I know Pops will be made up with your comment as his are with the 100-400mm.
      There are definitely kingfisher on the river so you are probably right about hearing one 👍🏻

    Have literally just come back from Brockholes. No Kevin but was probably too late in the day. Did see 3 merganser on the Ribble, 2 red kite, some curlew and plenty of butterflies. Need to do a more extensive explore. What time did you get there? That treecreeper shot is amazing.

    Another outstanding vid Dan. Great to hear people are recognizing you and pops, sharing tips and helping each other out with their knowledge of an area. Never even seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker let alone had the chance of photographing one maybe one day. Nice shots of Kevin etc, hope some of them are pops pics.

    Great video again Dan, Kevins a star isn't he?.... I have loads of photos of him and also Mrs Kevin, great when you capture them together, we visit Brockholes a lot, only half an hour away, Barn Owls best early morning or evening, a great variety of wildlife at the reserve, did you know there is a Stoat also in Boilton Woods (ancient woodland) and I am told a Weasel but never seen it myself.

    I was watching for Kingfishers from the viewpoint over the river last year, at Brockholes, and heard the click of shutters going off. Put my binoculars down to see Kevin sat atop one of the stones 6FT behind me and got some fantastic shots just on my iPhone. Looking forward to seeing what you got!

      Thank for your comment Tony, it was certainly an experience to get so close to a wild kestrel and made for some good photo opportunities but couldn't help feeling like we was cheating a little 😂 He was sat on the stones just as you describe and is certainly not in the least bit bothered by loggers snapping away.
