Awesome video. I was thinking the same thing and saw your video. Do you have an update on the board's condition now? Thanks!

I've thought about making a jig like that but hadn't gotten around to it. nice to see it worked. I will be making one soon. nice board by the way

+Cat G I did have to run it through the planer afterwards it had a little bow in it, but nothing serious. I'm working on another one now though see if i can fix that

If you have a plainer try running it through that before you cut into smaller pieces. Would love to see that board in a few different woods that contact. Would look sic!!

I can't say for sure because you didn't show any of the preparation of the raw material, but it looks like the boards were not jointed or planed before cutting. Even if they look ok after finishing, you're not going to get really strong glue joints this way. I also think, though I can't say for sure, that because you used such long pieces, you're more likely to get greater movement in the wood as the humidity changes. With more warping and unjointed glue joints, I predict a board made this way is far more likely to crack over time.
But a worthwhile experiment for sure.

Like it says, its just an experiment to see how it worked and went together. The boards were already jointed so I didnt need to do that again, it was wood I had laying around from a previous job.

hey Joel, Im honestly not replying to your vid just to crush your grapes but moreso to perhaps help you. what you've got there is not an "end grain" board but rather an edge grain board. Its an absolute terrible way to construct a board too, the potential for small gaps in your seems for bacteria in astronomical. Plus you've glued end grain to face grain, (the strip down the middle), these grains expand and contract at completely diff rates and as such your board will crack & fail. You should check out some other vids. In fact, Im now inclined to do a vid of my own to show how to make an end grain board that will last for generations. Though many props for trying buddy. Be safe in the shop.

+Robert White Like it says its an experiment, just trying it to see how it works. It was some scrap wood i had laying around. And in the video I explain how to actually make one properly, So im gonna guess you didnt watch it with sound. And according to this nifty picture, its an end grain cutting board. I've made plenty of cutting boards the normal way, just trying something different.

Hey Joel, "my Bad", when Im wrong, Im wrong! & like to own up to the fact. included within your reply was a picture where one could clearly see it "is" an end grain board. Not sure why but it didn't appear that way when I watched the vid, perhaps something in my settings?? Play safe.

Experiment to see if it could be done in less steps.

Great experiment! How has the board held up?

Great looking board! How did you get the variation in the coloring of the wood? Was that just different pieces that had small differences between them?

+Patrick Skoll ya just the way it turned out, probably a lot due to the light hitting it and the way the grain is orientated

Anthor Castillo are you stupid? Did you not read the title? Or maybe listen to his commentary? Or even watch the video?
