Our FIRST Cruise "It's The TENDER" - P&O Aurora Visits Bruges And Guernsey

  • Part 2 - It’s the port day on our very first cruise. We arrive in Zeebrugge on our P&O cruise onboard Aurora. It’s a day trip to Bruges before an overnight sail to St Peter Port, Guernsey.
After a sea day on the Aurora, we make our own way to Bruges by train from Blakenburge near Zeebrugge.
There’s lots of chocolate in busy Bruges. After Bruges, there’s an overnight sail to St Peter Port Guernsey. (The original port was meant to be Le Havre but the French were on strike).
Getting to St Peter Port from P and O’s Aurora involved the tender which was a new experience which was not the most comfortable of journeys.

So glad you mentioned the arrogance that you found in some of the P and O Facebook pages.
I'm about to do my 4th cruise and, like you, I thought I'd 'investigate' a bit.
The arrogance and rudeness of those who are in, what I call, the 'we're experienced clique' but who have as much knowledge as an amoeba when it comes to advising people, really disturbed me, a lot. I was on one page for a particular ship and was so disgusted at their arrogant responses to new cruisers, I deleted the page off my wall as I was disgusted. Or the ones, who, when muster yaed to take place in groups, insisted on 'raising their voices audibly so to be heard', announced to family or friends (and the rest of the ship) how things at this muster had changed since their last ten cruises!! So pretentious.
If you want a good cruise, a bit more organised that the one you were on, try Ventura out of season. Norwegian fjords on Arvia (with indoor pools) would really give you a 'meaty' cruise, stunning scenery, but chilled and relaxed as well. A full 7 days to really explore and get right into a cruise, before it's all over. You need at least 4 nts fir a relaxing cruise, and outwith school holidays if you enjoy peace and quiet.
The short cruises are great, but not on the smaller ships. I find them a bit too 'stuffy', and less 'organised'. (Bigferxships need to be organised. Plenty of little corners to hide in for peace and quiet too.
But don't give up on cruising. If you get the right mix, it's addictive.

@Mellissa Williams I've given up on the Facebook groups. I DO enjoy looking here on You Tube though, especially the more known bloggers like Jamie (darn..can't remember his name!!) and his partner. They are always informative, meaty, honest reports and always pretty smack 9n with their information.
Don't give up. I really think you would enjoy a larger ship. Less formal. Travel out of school hols for a less 'busy' cruise, but I find them more family orientated and less 'class' orientated. Much more relaxed. Happy Cruising x

As an experienced cruiser ( as crew for a small cruise line and as a passenger mainly on P&O) sounds like you got a bit unlucky with that one breakfast and Tender port. Aurora is the oldest ship in the P&O fleet, she does normally have an older demographic as well as more experienced cruisers. Have heard mixed reviews from her lately
However really happy to hear you have booked a Norwegian fjords cruise and on Britannia as well (which is currently my favourite cruise ship at least with P&O) i am also doing a return to norway next year on Britannia. @Fly Drive Explore not at all would also recommend youtubers like emmacruises , tips for travellers , life well cruised and payl and carol love to travel. among others for research and tips.
Smaller Norwegian ports such as Olden and Flam definitely book excursions for and these can be done in advance on P&O's holiday personaliser. Would suggest Loen cable car or Birksdal glacier hike among others for Olden, Flam railway for Flam etc. Speciality restaurants can be be booked in advance as well but not always.
