    When google maps is set to biking the speed it is calculating on is 16 km/h (10 mph). The map adjusts the time left using that criteria. Took a while to find that info. It is fairly accurate if you hold a steady speed.

    Google bases it’s estimated time on speed limit if you are in a car. It also uses algorithms for things like traffic density as well.
    If you are on the bike then it uses an average of 10 mph to calculate the time, so it will adjust as you move along your route.
    Enjoying the videos as always, thanks .

About 5 days ago I was riding my trike, and some crazy lady sitting in her front yard began screaming at me for riding in her neighborhood. She screamed non stop until I was halfway down the block. You really have to be careful when riding on streets as there are a lot of distracted drivers who the biker is counting on seeing us. I have been riding since April and already got hit from behind by a guy not paying attention. At 63 I should have gotten hurt bur I had a guardian angel or something protecting me as I got right up, and my bike only had a bent kickstand out of the ordeal.

      I asked a number of people who had already done the modifications if they had any adverse effects on the Rad Rover and there was none. That’s how I decided I would do it too. The amp hour rating isn’t the concern really, it is the voltage of the battery that you need to be more concerned with.

    I have a question I would like to get your take on. I haven't ridden a bike in 15 years but when i use to ride I would just casually ride around looking at the scenery and sometimes talking to other bike riders who were going the same way as I was. Once or twice a week I would ride for speed and distance, but the other times I was extremely casual. The videos that you publish you always seem to be traveling pretty fast, i.e. 17mph or more. Do you ever just casually ride, 8 to 15mph? Does having an ebike automatically makes you want to go faster just because you can? I've ordered an ebike, since watching your videos, and it should arrive here in a couple of days. I was curious if you originally though you would just ride slowly through neighborhoods but then discover riding 20mph through them was more fun or entertaining for you.

    • @RussIsRight
      @RussIsRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. In general, I prefer to ride fast, so I probably would not be riding slow and casually. But on some trails, you'll see me do perhaps around 12-18 mph on average. Another reason I don't go too slow is because with my big heavy bike, if I ride under 9 mph, I have a really good chance of falling. A certain speed is needed just to keep upright and that speed is generally at least 9 mph for me. Now, you will see that I dropped way down to maybe 5 or 6 mph when I was riding behind some pedestrians walking at Busse Woods recently since there were so many people in front of me, but believe me... I was nervous that I could fall at any moment. So, in general, I stay with 12 mph or faster most often. When I'm on the street, I usually go 20 mph to 24 mph on the Rad Rover 5. I do this to keep up with traffic and to get off the main streets as quickly as possible. I don't particularly like riding on streets with cars doing 40 mph and staying on there any longer than I have to, so I'll power through that as fast as I can. Then back on the side streets, I'll slow it down a bit, but usually still ride relatively fast.

    • @richarddkearney
      @richarddkearney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RussIsRight Wow. Fast answer. Thanks. I had come back to re-read my comment to see if I was expressing myself correctly and maybe edit it if i didn't think I was and found out you had already responded.
      It sounds like you have a tendency to want to travel quickly to start with, so hopefully that means having the extra power won't change how ride around. I totally understand driving as fast as possible to get to a destination but once there I would like to enjoy being there. I probably had 7 or 8 bikes stolen in my time. It didn't seem like any amount of locks and/or chains deterred the thieves, so I probably won't be driving to the store to buy something or riding to the movies or spending a day at the park with my ebike; so my ebike riding will be all recreational, casual and a little bit of exercise.
