@@thereviewerplays1932exactly… he even had a hardcore match with Terry Funk! Who’s to say that Goldberg kick was the reason he suffered a stroke 2 years later? Simple fact is, 25 years ago no one really knew what CTE was. A concussion was a bad headache and a bit of disorientation. They continued to have matches days after because no one knew the long term effects. These days we know how serious concussions are, even minor ones. Any sportsperson who suffers a concussion is immediately sidelined for 2 weeks minimum (depending on the risk factor of their profession). If what we know today was known 25 years ago, Bret doesn’t wrestle after that Starrcade match, and possibly never suffers that stroke and he probably returns to WWE in a competitive capacity after the Invasion storyline, maybe even reignites his feud with Shawn, has one or two more title reigns and then hangs his boots up in a WrestleMania match against someone like Cena or Orton or Edge, passing the torch to the next generation as it were.

Then I was not even allowed to participate in NON CONTACT sports at P.E. for the next two weeks after that. He wasn't a sports medicine specialist, either. Just a regular doctor who knew how serious concussions were. In 1985. I get really tired of all the bullcrap about people not knowing how serious concussions were in 1999. They absolutely DID know, and for a couple decades before that. Bret continued to wrestle whe he should have taken 3-6 weeks off. He chose to do that, and by his own admission he got re-concussed another 3 times (at least) in the matches AFTER the Goldberg kick. It was THOSE concussions that ended his career, not the first. @WesleyGathage I've heard Austin call it out when discussing the piledriver botch, but he didn't seem bitter about it. I recall it came across to me as Austin saying, "It was bad form that Owen didn't call and check on me but whatever."
It's disappointing that more people sympathize with Goldberg than Bret. We always talk about how some super green wrestler at the time who was getting a push because of a look ended Bret's career but never stop and consider how the same business he was so passionate about was dealing a lot of blows before he even went to WCW with all the deaths and disrespect. People also downplay the career ending aspect of it. I'm sure the only thing Bret ever wanted to do as a profession was wrestle the guy got there and he was good at what he did and that was killed off in his prime because of something that wasn't his fault. I mean what was he supposed to do afterward? Work at Home Depot? It's just sad to see all the boys he shared a locker room with have so much longevity and he had to go from being that guy in the ring putting on a damn good show to just sitting back and watching and the guy who couldn't wrestle that ended his career gets to be over as all hell. Bret has said, "Forgive but never forget." I'll admit that I'm a fan of Bret's. Putting that aside, I'd ask Bill what I'd ask anyone: Can you put yourself in Bret's shoes? What if it was YOU that was on the receiving end of the kick that led to early retirement? How would YOU handle someone telling you to "get over it?" I have no doubt that Bill felt remorse about what he did. But NO ONE "gets over" the trauma that Bret experienced. Come to terms with, perhaps. But "get over it?" Never.
So what's the point of forgive then? If I do something bad to you and I regret it, why are you gonna forgive me if you are going to remember me the thing everytime we talk? If that's the case, I would rather not be forgiven. The point of forgive is precisely leave things in the past and move foward, I'm not saying that we don't acknowledge the whole thing, act like nothing happened, we don't even have to be best friends after that, just leave the problem in the past and move on. Otherwise, you will be bitter and miserable for the rest of your life and that only is gonna affect you, only you, so you can see it as a way to take care of yourself and your health.

I think Bret never would have gotten that concussion if it was a larger (wwf) ring. If it was a wwf ring he may have had more time to react and get his hands up to deflect it. Bret chose to go to wcw and so Bret chose to deal with every single detail, albeit minute or massive, and all of the nuances of a different company than he was used to working for for 14 years. Can’t really blame Goldberg for being recklessness.
Bret Hart's prime was over anyway. He was in his 40s. Rick Rude's career ended in his 30s after receiving a suicide dive from Sting but he was never bitter about it. Instead of blaming Sting, he blamed the raised platform.

Yeah, God forbid someone be bitter about their career being taken away while the guy that did it makes millions upon millions overseas. Big E still has a chance to come back, Bret ended up having a ton of health issues that stemmed from the original kick.
I can't remember the guy who injured Big E saying stupid shit like"If I wanted to hurt him he would never get back again. " so don't compare the situations
Goldberg can say anything because he took wrestling only after his injury finished his football career in the budding stage. He landed on his second career where he started to hurt others. Goldberg still not over William Regal making him look like a chump guiding him through a 6 minute match because he'd never done one past 90 seconds but suddenly Bret needs to be the one to "get over" things. Rules for thee but not for me.
He didn’t drop The Undertaker on his head; it was the other way round. Taker spiked Goldberg into the mat; Goldberg’s botched Jackhammer only came close at doing that with Taker.
He had very little prior training and of those 170+ matches, how many lasted more than 5 minutes? Even the match against Bret at Starrcade was just over 10 minutes, and Starrcade was like WCW’s WrestleMania. That event had a stacked upper/main event card too, and they still only got 10 minutes. 2 years, a shocking lack of proper training, and a lack of experience gained through match time, yes he was still green. Against Undertaker he had given himself a concussion before the match and then made it worse in the opening minute or 2… combine that with a reputation for not being the safest person in the ring, and two big guys in their 50s… it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Thankfully both of them walked away from it.
The idea that Bill Goldberg thinks he did Bret a solid getting him a job at “Legends of Wrestling” is a joke. Bret Hart IS a legend of wrestling. He doesn’t need Goldberg’s help. Goldberg was a flash in the pan, but never a good wrestler

@@CoffeeMatt10 - People knew concussions were serioius decades before Bret got his infamous kick to the head. Roger Staubach retired from football in 1979 because of repeated concussions. Stan Humphries retired from football in 1996 because of repeated concussions. I had a concussion in 1985 and my doctor told me to take 3 days and do NOTHING. Barely even walk around the house. He could have made a full recovery, but the repeated concussions made the damage exponentially more severe - and permanent. That's all on Bret.

That's the difference between Goldberg and the great technicians like Shawn and Bret who were green too in the early stage of their respective careers but, they didn't end anybody's career.

Yeah, accidents definitely happen, and Goldberg was sloppy. I'm not defending him for that. Could he have made an effort to improve or be more safe? Of course. Especially given it's a contact sport. You said it yourself, though. The company saw dollar signs, so Goldberg was thrust into the main event scene as quickly as possible, without much polish. It doesn't seem like he was afforded the opportunity to learn the craft. That's something we can't fully blame Goldberg for. The higher-ups were negligent. All parties involved are at fault, but if you were to get paid millions of dollars, chances are you'd wing it, too. Unfortunately, Bret was hurt by Goldberg, but the intent wasn't there. Whereas, Owen Hart, a trained professional, someone who knew how to wrestle, broke Austin's trust and his neck by going into business for himself. I know you didn't mention Owen. I'm making a comparison between both situations. My point is that if Goldberg doesn't get a pass, Owen shouldn't either.

@@thirdworldrenegade No, we can absolutely blame bill for that; the guy should have spent more time in the development leagues to learn how to do a proper match and/or Wrestling school before he took that kind of job and if he'd had any real honesty with himself he would have known he wasn't ready for the big push that he got or worked his matches slower.

Thank you I've noticed people never bring that up he actually made his own concussion worse because right after that match he had with Goldberg he wrestled the following night on because right after The match he had is starcade with Goldberg he wrestled the following night again and he even wrestled a hardcore match against Terry funk which wasn't really a smart move on his part honestly Bret needs to stop getting upset over s*** that happened decades ago there's no point of holding on to grudgies All it does is just make you miserable
@@feliciasteward777 Great point. To add to your point, Hart also wrestled Benoit on Thunder that same week after the Goldberg match too.
Bret needs to let it go
Chocolate covered Payday 🤤🤤
This kind of accident happen because of the people who aren’t professional and not doing their job well
Bret had a legendary match more than 60 minutes
I dare you to give me a match Goldberg had more than 5 minutes in his entire career
Let's not get crazy. Goldberg has had a lot of matches longer than 5 minutes. No 5 star matches that I've seen.
@ even the spear that he do was not that perfect , actually the superstars that have the amazing silling they help him do the spear for example dolph Ziggler
You can come back and watch this match and you will find that dolph ziggler is the one who made the spear look wonderful
Absolutely nothing to do with what I said.
Lucky for Goldberg he never tried to fight Bret like he did Jericho.
Goldberg pls return, without you there is no WWE😢❤
@cigrik Still old he beated bobbly lashely and brock lesnar
@cigrik he still better shape that other wrestlers
Bret Hart's prime was over anyway. He was in his 40s. Rick Rude's career ended in his 30s after receiving a suicide dive from Sting but he was never bitter about it. Instead of blaming Sting, he blamed the raised platform.
People seem to forget that Bret hart wrestled a couple more matches after that kick tho and he wasn’t told his career was over til after the fact he couldn’t wrestle anymore
He may forget stuff like that bec6 you kicked him into a stroke
What an endearing clip that really paints Goldberg as a chill guy who cares about people.
Gunther brings me here
Goldberg would eventually send Gunther in his place
I can understand both sides. Why Bret is still upset and why Goldberg is fed up with apologizing over all these years
Their are Big E's and Brett Harts in this world post career ending injuries. Be like Big E.
Good point and example
Yeah, God forbid someone be bitter about their career being taken away while the guy that did it makes millions upon millions overseas. Big E still has a chance to come back, Bret ended up having a ton of health issues that stemmed from the original kick.
I can't remember the guy who injured Big E saying stupid shit like"If I wanted to hurt him he would never get back again. " so don't compare the situations
Or Droz (RIP)
Title of the video is wrong. It should be Bill Goldberg!
The spear and nothing else.
Goldberg can say anything because he took wrestling only after his injury finished his football career in the budding stage. He landed on his second career where he started to hurt others. It's unbelievable such a good hearted person like Goldberg still not able to understand the pain of career ended by an injury. Bret hart have every single reason to blame Goldberg because till today he never apologize to Bret hart personally
I love Bert but Goldberg made a mistake It’s not like he did it purpose. He just was a green/unsafe wrestler and Bret knew that before he did the match.
This man said, he must forget I talked to people into getting him a job. As if that is supposed to make Brett drop everything 😂
Bret is a walking vagina
bret may as well refused the offer. biting the hands that fed him is a cowardly move.
Buddy Bret Hart is a legend, doesn’t need someone like Goldberg to put in a “good word” for him
Bret Hart is the best bro even NWO hates this guy lol he wanted to be undefeated for 20 years 😂😂😂😂
Pretty sure Bret knows he didn't care then or now! Goldberg still thinks he won all them "matches" lol
Bret is gonna go Jim Cornette nuclear once he sees this
“All I ask, is that you dont hurt me”
Bill apologized and it was an accident athletes get concussions all the time if Bret fell and banged his head on the floor would he hold a grudge against the floor I love Bret but you gotta move on
This was the very reason why Bret is still angry with Goldberg he doesn’t care he retired someone due to his own lack of in ring skill
A very mature response to a very immature person who can’t let stuff go. Maybe Bret’s dribble brain is stuck in the past.
Goldberg still not over William Regal making him look like a chump guiding him through a 6 minute match because he'd never done one past 90 seconds but suddenly Bret needs to be the one to "get over" things.
Rules for thee but not for me.
Justice for Bret
🪦 Bret
@@Sxecaba justice for a man who lies about his story? Cool
He had 2 years and 170+ days as the champ so was he truly green? Was he still green when he dropped undertaker on his head?
" I bet bill had a kick doing this interview, just like when he kicked my head " bret hart
