    I would love to see a comparison between this ammunition and other more common 9mm rounds in the ballistic gel to compare the penetration and energy dissipation. I would also like to see how it compares to other rounds on the wear and tear it causes on the barrel. Also what difference in accuracy have you noticed? I checked out their website and it doesn't sound like they are nearly as accurate and they didn't have a lot of information on longer distance shots. By the way your TH-cam channel is one of the most entertaining and best put together channels. Awesome job!

    Great video! And I appreciate your approach.
    However I feel like this round is a gimmick.
    It created a massive temporary wound cavity which has been found not to really cause a ton of damage. And leaves the petals only about 6 inches in.
    So basically after the petals separate, you get a narrow wound channel like with a FMJ.
    There is a reason why expanding hollow points have been the standard in defeating unarmored targets. It works!
    A 95 grain solid copper projectile that leaves petals shallow and doesn't create a large permanent wound cavity will not be as effective.
    That being said, I wouldn't want to take one to the chest either though.

    I'd like to see similar tests like you did for the G2 RIP for the Liberty Civil Defense 9mm round. Its a similar concept, a frangible all copper round with petals that break off to expand the wound cavity, but it is significantly lighter, and faster (over 2000 FPS). I would be interested in how they compare.

    • @kingduckford
      @kingduckford 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Logan Brunson There are many, many videos on Liberty and other frangible rounds, and the results are 100% failure, like the RIP. They don't create permanent stretch cavities, the center doesn't expand causing a good central wound channel to vitals, and the fragments are all but worthless.

  • @jakmak52
    @jakmak52 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My experience with defense ammo has been limited to Lehigh
    Defense Extreme Penetrator, Precision One HP/XTP, Federal HST, Hornaday XTP,
    Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown, Speer Gold Dot, and Magtech Guardian Gold with the
    Federal HST’s penetration, expansion, and consistency taking 1st place.
    I’m anxious to try out the G2’s offerings. I’m not surprised by the lack
    of substantial penetration of the G2’s performance due to the expansion of the
    trocars slowing the round down upon impact and initial penetration. Great vids!
    keep them coming.

    Awesome vid (as usual ;-) ) will definitely keep an eye to your next posting on this subject.
    Should consider doing (shooting) the following:
    3/4" plywood
    Double-pain glass (patio door)
    A regular household (hollow) internal door
    Peeled coconuts
    These should give an approximate result to the needs of a home-defense round. With your abilities of filming and "knack" for how something would look good this should be a highly watched segment.
    Thanks for posting.
    (And helping FPS) cool combo!

    Having been a drywaller (in America) for nearly 30 years, I'm wondering, after not getting the results you wanted with your initial shot through the drywall (suspecting that you were replicating interior wall penetration), why did you then build another mini-wall stuffed with insulation to get your intended result? Myself having rarely encountered interior walls that were insulated, it would seem you were stacking the deck to skew your demonstration of interior wall penetration.

    FullMag why is 10 yards considered the standard distance for home defense? That's 30 feet. I would be quite a bit closer if I were firing my weapon at an intruder in my house. I'm just curious. Did you do any shooting at 5 yards?

    • @PamAdger
      @PamAdger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since most criminals who break into houses aren't stupid enough to rush someone pointing a gun at them...I still say 10 yards is way too far.

AND ten yard is that distance where on the street you notice when someone enters that semi near bubble. @ ten yards you are a largish blip on my radar... if not sooner....

      +TheiRenaissance I don't agree, you should always train with the weapon to be used at ranges to be faced. Shooting a man sized target at the range has no bearing to being shit-scared in poor light with a person at contact to 10 feet away.
      I don't say intruder, because more family members have been shot than intruders.

Not everyone who breaks in your house wants to kill or is even armed. Not that I would take the chance. More people get in trouble for overkill than wounding an assailant.

    Fantastic shots!! It's nice to finally see some testing done with real ordinance gelatin and not just the usual watermelon-type stuff. Isn't there a type of gelatin that will show both the permanent cavity and the temporary "shock" cavity at the same time? Also, I'd suggest in the future draping a couple layers of denim over the front of the block to simulate clothing. Man, those high speed camera shots are incredible to see!!

      My thoughts exactly! It's funny how weight retention is such an important factor when evaluating defensive ammunition, yet people lose their minds when something does just the opposite. The average shooter needs a serious lesson in terminal ballistics, and the buzz around this round is proof. I'll stick with my HSTs.

      1blackdeath51501 "Shock Areas"...Seriously? This isn't even a real term! Do you mean "shock" as in hydrostatic shock? Or are you just trying to refer to trauma?
      Either way, penetration leads to incapacitation. This has been proven time and time again by reputable studies done by real scientists. If you don't agree, then just go back to shooting your safety slugs and birdshot, but please don't spread your ignorance around any further.

      No, hollow point is standard self defense ammo, it also prevents over penetration. There's nothing worse than hitting the bad guy, but then having the FMJ bullet pass through him into an innocent person.

    This ammo is marketing hype.
    Doesn't have enough penetration.
    Ballistics gel simulates muscle tissue, not bones, skin and cartilage.
    This round basically does GREAT in gel!, but its worthless in the human body.

    • @TheMango121
      @TheMango121 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      *****
      When it comes to ballistics penetration is key. Those breaking pedals do great in tissue, but lack the weight to BUST through a ribcage or sternum. The body isn't made of pure muscle (ballistics gel), it has bones and other hard substances. The only thing worth while in this round is the "penetrator" in the rear. The real question is how effective is the lead penetrator? Well the penetrator is about as good as a .380 FMJ. Why would i want useless trocars and a extremely light- weight penetrator while i can buy a 9mm 124 grain JHP that can expand to .45 caliber, have the power to bust through a rib cage/sternum and still RETAIN its 124 grain weight to do damage to the internals?
      Weight retention, penetration, energy and shot placement are whats important.
      For instance i could take a 12 gauge shotgun with number 9 target loads ( 750ish pellets about the size of a large grain of sand) and blow a ballistics gel block to pieces... does that mean that a 12 gauge with bird shot is effective at stopping a threat? NO! The small pellets are extremely light and don't have the penetration to pass through tough skin, a rib cage, cartilage and maybe a sternum... but it sure looks impressive on ballistics gel with a high FPS camera!!
      I understand human anatomy and basic science.

    Pure BS. loses most of it's weight straight off, doesn't penetrate deeply enough. only 1/4th of the weight goes through. Better off with a good hollowpoint that flowers out and created a bigger wound channel.'

    I love guns and i belive in the 2nd ammendment even if it is arhaic in nature. Even though these bullets are very well made and are difinately engineered to kill extremely efficiently... i dont think that these bullets should exist. The overkill factor is over the top. Shooting someone with ball ammo or even a regular hollow point is enough for close quarters perrsonal defense. These bullets are made to kill and render the wound un-operably by a surgeon. If a criminal went on a shooting spree with these. There would be little to no survivors. Even in a personal defense situation your best bet is to wound an assailant not kill him. You could shoot someone in the leg with this round and odds are one of its 8 leaflets would sever an artery. I dont think this is a humane projectile.

    As much as I love my guns, I really do not support ammunition such as this for civilian use. At least with a shotgun, you can find the entry wounds of most pellets. I would hate to be on the other end of the barrel with this ammo, but thats just me...

    • @tombproduct
      @tombproduct 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      shmimbadad I never said that wasn't the point, but I do not plan on being in any situation in which I am on the other end, and hope that no individual takes it into their hand to put me there...

      If you pull out your gun in a self defense situation and you are not expecting to destroy or kill what you are pointing at I wouldn't recommend carrying a gun. It's not the ideal choice to kill another human being but I want this person stopped as soon as possible and if ammunition like this is going to neutralize my threat faster I'm going to use it.

    I love these vids. That being said I cannot see why this kind of ammo should be widely available. It just seems so much more lethal than regular rounds and the point of, say, home defence should be to incapacitate, not kill, the intruder.

      To choose the best available resources to protect your life, your family, and your freedoms. These are unalienable human rights.
      It is buy no means anymore "lethal" than your standard FMJ or hollow point round.
      There is one purpose for a lethal ammunition, that is to kill, hence the "lethal" part. It is not designed to maim or incapcitate without high probability of causing severe bodily harm or death. You aim center mass of your target and fire until the threat is gone. If that means your target dies, so be it. There are non-lethal options if you think your target is not going to commit severe bodily harm or death against you or your family.
      Thoughts?

      These rounds are LESS lethal, because they are a bad design that is not very effective.
      As far as incapacitate rather than kill..the goal is to stop the attacker, not kill the attacker. Sadly many times the only way to do that is with killing.

    • @Cosmo1093
      @Cosmo1093 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Regular rounds" for home/self defense are hollow points. This isn't all that big of an improvement. And it would seem that the more lethal that a bullet is, the faster a threat would be incapacitated. You presumably wouldn't have to shoot as many times to achieve incapacitation either.

      No, no it does not. It does a lot more damage than any .22, to say otherwise is just saying stupid shit for the sake of saying stupid shit.
      Do I like this round? No. I would not touch this round after seeing all of the third party testing. It is, as far as I am concerned, a hype-fueled, polished sack of shit. But I would use it over a .22 if needs be.
      Course, I do believe I know where you are getting your bullshit line, which is from the "Test" done on the Truth About Guns where the author "replicated" the damage cause by 1 of these rounds, with 7-8 bullets fired from a .22. Which really, proves your point as complete bullshit. Please stop saying blatantly obvious, pathetic lies.
