    QUICK NOTE: I learned during the production of this video that the bullet "grain" refers to its mass, and not the grain measurement of the gunpowder. Apologies for misspeaking during the video!

      I appreciate the fact you say this. As someone who grew up around firearms and everything, I also assumed that’s what it was too. Learned maybe a year or two ago that it was bullet weight and not powder and went “huh.. I’ve been super wrong my whole life” lol

    Just a heads up less grain weight bullets normally always go faster and incase you was confused the grain weight is the bullet weight not the powder charge

  • @Definitely-Not-A-Cop
    @Definitely-Not-A-Cop 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Somehow faster with less grains? That's very normal. With everything else being equal, a lighter projectile will have more velocity. 1,000 horsepower with push a Miata a heck of a lot faster than it will push a 3/4 ton 4 door pick-up. Great video btw. I'm looking forward to seeing your channel grow. Have a sub!

    It's interesting to me to see the amount of unburnt powder from the handgun. I assume the burn would be more complete in a longer barrel and I'd like to see a video covering that.

    • @boognish593
      @boognish593 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you hand load you’ll notice that all the load data in a lyman book is from testing in a 6” barrel. I’ve always assumed that is what mfr uses to work up loads because it’s better to load for the longest barrel and have un burnt powder in shorter barrels than to have ammo run out of steam halfway through a longer barrel. When I was hand loading I would always have to modify powder charge to fit my specific barrel length

    I have most of the rounds you mentioned just because i like seeing how different rounds blow up water jugs 😂. One weird one i haven’t shot yet is the arx 65gr the box says 1650 fps,it’s a weird copper polymer bullet that i want to shoot into gel. As far as carry ammo the only thing i carry is 147gr hst rounds, i load my own and have never seen one fail to open. I have loaded them on the low end of published load data and shot them out of my 43x and they still expand.
    For rifle ammo i use a 64gr soft point and a 55gr frangible bullet that i load. They both seem to work extremely well, compared to a vmax round the soft point just seems to dominate ime.

    Just in case it isn't mentioned elsewhere, the reason for the secondary detonation in the gel is from the collapsing gasses. This is the same thing as a diesel engine combustion. The compression of the bubble collapsing compresses the gasses enough for ignition, and the fuel is either raw powder or the gel itself.

    Outstanding footage! I want to point out that the Extreme Defense is solid copper. I plan to use for my deer hunting this fall, as literature shows lead fragments end up in game meat. They are very small particles, you are not getting them out. So all copper is a HUGE plus for these (no pun intended). The shape of these rounds also causes more energy to dump sooner as seen in your slow motion frames, also a great aspect. Last, I shoot into rubber mulch. It stops even rifle rounds, and for target practice I suspect I can reuse these in my reloading system a number of times. The rifling grooves may be able to be filled electrochemically, (and swage or sand high parts?). This ammo is close to a buck per round, but if my hunch is correct about the reusable nature of this design, it will be well worth it. Especially if 9mm ever gets hard to acquire down the road again (EMP, Solar Flare, stupid politics, etc.)

      The temperature of a gas increases as it comes under increased pressure. Compress a gas hard enough, it can reach a critical temperature, and go boom. Same concept is used in diesel engines; no spark plugs, just a mist and compression from the engine pistons.
      Those little combustions are caused by gas (aka air) being sucked into the channel by the bullet's wake then being trapped, and compressed to the point of auto-ignition by the collapsing temporary cavity(s).
      You can see the same thing happening in slow-mo footage of (simulated) depth charges.

    Your second video, my first viewing ( i don't know why i got no notification) . Loving your show for the last two years. Carry on blowing stuff up and showing it in gloriously slow motion colours 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤔😇🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    What's the best FMJ (grain size and fps) for 9mm self-defense?
    I know an FMJ shouldn't even be in consideration, but I live in backwards New Jersey. Up to this year, NOBODY was approved for a CCW license until the recent SCOTUS ruling. The remaining issue is, NJ prohibits the carrying of hollowpoint ammo except for law enforcement, with zero exception. You can have JHPs in your home, but you cannot carry or transport JHPs. With that said, what grain and fps should I be looking at?

    "Somehow the lighter bullets fly faster"... NO WAY!?! YA DON'T SAY?!?
    Like seriously, even without middle school physics knowledge, any gun owner should know that lighter bullets are faster all else equal smh

    Guys, you need to take a look on tradicional bullets like Keith's semi wad cutters, and compare it with one or two modern defense bullets! I'm sure everyone will get shocked!

    Looks like the Lehigh Defense 9mm, 90 gr +P I have used. Other videos described it as "barrier blind" due to its awesome ability to penetrate barriers and enter the ballistic gel.

    Just watched this for the first time. You might not see this. Why are you showing a different pistol at the beginning of each shot than when you show it up close? Archive video? Enjoyed it but was curious. The first is a black slide/brown frame with threaded barrel. Close up is of a standard configuration Glock. Did I miss something?

    Try underwood extreme defender 68grain +p 9mm moves at 1800fps. Bigger wound channels then then 90 grain

    You’ve earned my sub. The footage is the clearest and best slow motion I’ve seen to date. Coupled with the amazing sound effect it’s a pure thrill to watch. 🦅🇺🇸

    Is it just me who sees different wapon being shot in normal speed and in slow mo?
    I mean, there isn't even any disclaimer. It's like setting a speed record with white and dirty Ford Focus and then filming the "cool" stuf with red Lambo

    Likled thhe channel im subbed.... but i have construtive criticism..... if you guy are going to be guns and slow mo you need to get WAY more educated on the weapons, ammo, and ballistics.
    Its very cool just to watch but youll gain a shit ton more subs if you get more technical. Like calibrated ballistic gel testing of different defense and duty rounds. But youll need to know more of the basics or people will look right over

    Hi Adam , hi Bryce , can I ask you to put metric speeds as well ( m/s ) for all future videos, Europe is watching too not only America, and i think that a lot of bullet and firearms companies are using metric sistem for diagnostics.
    Thank you if you read my post.

    Cool video. How come there's a small explosion 💥 inside the gel after the bullet passes through. What's that from. I heard you say "detonation."

    Got to be honest - I’m not sure people who don’t understand what the grain of a round means should be presenting themselves as a ballistic expert comparing rounds on the internet 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Cool footage though

    You may know this by now but you are supposed to keep the gelatin at 40F or something while testing in order to maintain the correct viscosity

    I like your content, but why does the video show different firearms being used for full speed and slow motion shots? Green lower with a muzzle device vs all black, no device on slow motion?

  • @butterzaries4277
    @butterzaries4277 ปีที่แล้ว

    Real quick I realize that when he shot the ballistics jail the second time he had a gun that had a extended barrel like a muzzle brake with a black slide and dark OD Green body but when it showed the dramatic slow motion effect of the close-up of the Glock it was a all black Glock with no extended barrel what's up with that and you can clearly see how flimsy the gun is whenever it ejects and the slot forces back but the polymer front bottom of the slide is bouncing like a rubber band

  • @jamesfaul348

    That was fun to watch. So the extreme ammo’s shape, allows the force of the bullet to affect closer to its impact point rather than further away? So, a human torso is shorter than a rectangle of gel; the original fmj looked like its force generated upon impact, affected the furthest end of the gel the most, so when a 9 would hit a person, the most force generated is after it passes through?
