At first I was like, that watch is awesome, it's a Casio so I could afford it. I'm totally getting that. Lemme Google it to see exactly...Then I heard "1800 dollars" emitting from my iPads speaker so I reluctantly put my g shock back on 🤦♂️
I like that unlike G-Shocks, it doesn't have to advertise every feature on the dial. No "Radio Controlled World Time Perpetual Calendar Bluetooth Sapphire Solar Quartz" stuff.
I purchased the S5000E after watching your sneak peak. I think the E model is has crazy value at $1265. Same functionality as the S model and I happen to prefer the aesthetics. I love your reviews so thank you. In this one I think you underplayed the BT function. The app is really great and the guide feature makes it much easier to understand all the complex functions. Also surprised you didn’t knock the integrated nature of the bracelet. Not a huge deal for me but I know you’ve knocked it before on the S100... which I also previously bought on your recommendation :) Thanks for introducing me to my first +$1000 watch. In the words of Ron Bergundy, boy that escalated quickly.
Nice review. As an owner of an S7000, a few things to note: The crown is relatively easy to pull out from the bottom while being worn if you have even a little thumb nail. If you wear the watch too tight this won’t be so easy. Also, the little second hand spin when the stopwatch is started is purely cosmetic. The spin will always complete in 1 second or less, and the second hand will always tick over exactly one second after the start button is pressed.
I just recently heard about Oceanus watches from the Casio website and then the S5000C from your video. I’ve tried to find the exact model as you have but a can’t find it anywhere, so I’ve settled on the S5000. After receiving it I can’t complain about the quality of the watch, but if I could tried it for the S5000C I most definitely would because that is in my opinion the BEST looking watch out there.
I think there is no lag when the stopwatch starts timing. The watch keeps track of when you pressed the button and ticks the second hand to :01 one second after that. That is, there is less than one second between when it comes around to :00 and then ticks to :01.
That is one of the most beautiful watches ever! If it weren’t approx 4 months of rent, and if I wasn’t taking your advice of not getting into watches this would be something I would really want.
notreallydaedalus haha well I have had police raid my neighbors twice in the last few months so I don’t know if I recommend low rent living situations haha
A thought occurred to me. It’s possible we’re seeing the Oceanus line as a JDM product because of an agreement with Grand Seiko. The Oceanus line is advertised as using the same case polishing as GS. Casio probably contracted with GS to polish the cases, and made an agreement to keep them JDM as not to compete with the GS quartz line here in the US. The Oceanus line would be a big seller in the American market.
A year ago you showed me the Oceanus and mentioned the cost was about $500.00 US. And you went over the good, the bad the great and the ugly. What I loved about it was its simple lines and high degree of polish. The crystal was high end. I made mistakes several times and wore it while I gardened and did some other things that I shouldn't have. The scratching on the case is non-existent and on the band, slight. Throughout, I did not have to adjust the watch other than the initial time when it came from Tokyo. Finally, I've rotated the watch a bit for variety. Almost all watches I wear, sooner or later, will move onto my arm somewhere with the result that they are too tight. Kind of cuts off the circulation. No matter how I adjust them, this happens . Yet sometimes I word the watch all day and didn't notice it except when I wanted the time. I got it. As interesting as this limited edition is, it is just too busy for me. i've never used a stop watch function in my life and been able to adequately use it.. Comfort and light weight and efficiency and accuracy. That watch has it all. I hope you enjoy the extra complications. Less is more. In this case, I'll stick with the Oceanus mentioned herein. I have no jealousy and no need for the complications of this watch, no do I need the crystal color changing ring, although that is the coolest thing about that watch.
Bought a second hand S5000c on 2019 Dec, hard to find one when there's no stock at market, but luckily a gentlemen sold his treasure to me. It takes me 12500 yuan= 1785 dollar
I bought the S5000 for $1225. I actually prefer the simple blue ring to the crystals. BUT, you should go watch the video of them making that crystal ring. It is hand-made, which increases the price. I love some of these comments about this Casio being expensive. Have you looked at the price of SEIKO watches lately? They go from dirt cheap to multi-thousands for the GS. Oceanus is their premium line, although some G-Shocks cost twice this amount!
21:02 i think you're wrong. that marking of first second goes FASTER than one full second, that meaning it accounts for the time it circled around the dial it's nice and beatifully made, but if i had that kinda money i would pay double that (3600$) for a Grand Seiko Quartz . i know i know it wont adjust to anything, but have he has an accuracy of 10 seconds a year. im a classical man and i love classical things
I just stumbled upon this watch. I absolutely love that crystal bezel. And that's a really nice bracelet. But I hate the price. $1,800 is a really hard pill to swallow. And since I'm super late to the party, the only one of these I could find was a pre-owned one going for a little under $4,000 USD :/
I was watching the review and thinking, 'what a nice and interesting watch'. Then at 16'30" Nick says 'lets go and zoom in a little closer', and I suddenly forgot about the watch for a bit because I was thinking, 'jeez, that's a really nice camera with great optics that he has there'. Now I want both the watch and the camera. LOL, thanks for messing up my day Nick. :D
I'm going back & forth between this rainbow crystal version (which is scarce) or the regular 1AJF with the blue tachymeter (which I don't need). I may go ahead and get the blue one because that too will probably become hard to find, and I love the slim & light construction. Hard decision.
What did you end up with? Turns out there's a bunch of submodels with slightly different accenting and color schemes. OCW-S5000AP-2AJF keeps it all blue and purple with no tach.
@@finickybits8055 Yeah I should look into the different versions. I ended up not getting one at all, though it is definitely my next watch purchase. Just too many interesting knives out there ~
Crystals look too my little pony for my taste. I’ll take a tachometer over purple bling any day. Also don’t love the applied day of the week done as a 3/4 ring. The square edge of the ring bothers me. My absolute favorite quartz watch is the Citizen Eco-Drive World Time AT Radio Men's Watch, AT9010-52E. Solar, dual time zone (that easily moves from small to large dial), alarm, sets by radio, 200m water resist. $300
I've known the watch is sold out on the import site. I know already it cost well over 1k. Yet here I am wanting to know all I can about this lovely watch. I'll get around to getting t200 one day though.
If you ever decide to sell that...well let me know. I kinda focus on anniversary editions, and the gold accents on the S5000C aren't replicated on any of the other models.
Fantastic looking watch however too many compromises for a quartz timepiece, one being $1800. BTW you are a great watch reviewer, one of the best I've seen.
Nick. Loved the review, amazing watch. I have a bluetooth Edifice. How does de Oceanus connect with bluetooth? On the Edifice, you always have to connect manually. I always keep my second dial to my home time.
As long as your phone is nearby, it automatically connects and updates. You can also manually update by holding down a button for a few seconds. I thought it would be the same on the Edifice
Very nice. I got the less fancy, cheaper OCW-T2600 and don't feel the need to look for anything better. I think it has quicker access to the chronograph and more quick adjustment than the S5000. If the new T200s were available in titanium with a rotating bezel I'd probably have one though.
Nick, great entertaining review thank you. One problem, I would like to get this watch but I can not find it available online. I guess I'll have to wait for you to fall in love with something else and offer this one up for sale.
I find it a bit gaudy. Nothing to do with the utility or quality, but yeah. Maybe it doesn’t come across well on video... I actually prefer looks of the Citizen PCAT.
Amazing review. Information explosion. I do agree the chronograph function is a bit of an afterthought. I love the watch but am a bit of a chrono snob when it comes to precision.
It’s actually keeping time as it should be. It moves over to 1 second when 1 second passes. It doesn’t move to 0, then wait 1 second before moving up 1 second.
If a person wanted to pick up one of these gorgeous machines, where would they inquire? I tried calling Lewis but they couldn't help me. Any leads will be appreciated.
The lag in the timer is weired. Should be a way around that so it starts immediately when one pushes the button. I mean its useless for timing a 100m sprint, but maybe one need 1/100 of a second measurement for that anyway:)
Stop watch lag, a joke, truly that's removes the whole point of it! Kind of disqualifies it at the level where, at 3.5x the price of the OCW-S100-1AJF, I'd like see this watch as upgrade. Furthermore, the bracelet links seem to have a surface issue on their ends, a circular mold or some such, visible here 22:41. The rest is impressive, certainly the finishing, and that crystal ring.
I believe those “circular molds” are not an issue. It seems it is common with titanium bracelets to have those circles. My Seiko SARX055 AKA Baby Snowflake has the same thing.
I love the watch but 1,800 USD for a Casio? I think it's too much although the watch is pretty fancy. I don't think this will be sold a lot. It is a beautiful watch. Nice video Nick.

The chronometer seems to start at one second, which may be the length of time it takes for the second hand to go around. 20:35.
