I don't understand why high spec quartz watches of the quality of the Bulova or Oceanus are dismissed as too expensive, when there are so many average quality mechanical watches in the same price range with inexpensive off the shelf movements.
Imo, I think it’s more worth it to buy a COSC Christopher Ward or Formex or like brand. Even then you could buy a lower end quartz Grand Seiko Heritage for $2200 and have a much better watch with insane mechanics for not that much more than these Casios. Don’t get me wrong I love casio and gshock but they live in the sub $300 category for me.
My GS HA Quartz blew out of the water any other mechanical watch I had in terms of quality, longines, omega and even my explorer. The bias here its silly 😂.
To me the Bulova Precisionist movement is much more interesting than a run-of-the-mill Miyota. The quartz crystal vibrates at 8 times the rate of standard quartz, which make it accurate to 5 seconds a month, and the seconds hand beats 16 times a second, giving it a sweep almost as smooth as Spring Drive. Miyota (or ETA, or Sellita, or NH35) is bog standard. The Precisionist is unique.
Is rather toxic that you keep releasing this videos putting down honest brands that are undervalued and deserve recognition. As watch enthusiast we benefit from this releases and innovation. So we gotta promote and stimulate brands that are doing amazing things that are going under the radar to grow. That is a healthy mindset that promotes better things in the watch industry. Hope you realize that.
The Oceanus line provides amazing quality for 1/3 the price of a major Swiss brand. The watches are assembled by hand at the Yamagata, Japan factory where they are Zuratsu polished just like Grand Seiko! The rumor is, the two brands share the facility because there are only so many techs with the qualifications to make these watches. All Oceanus watches except the T-200 are made of titanium. The sapphire crystals are so clear you can hardly see them. The sapphire crystal bezels you mentioned are also handmade and there are a couple of TH-cam videos showing how they are made. These watches are a great value, even though they aren't cheap. I own the S-5000 Manta, P-2000 Cachelot, and the T-200.
As an enthusiast, and someone who likes Bulova as a brand I love the fact that they use the precision us movement… It’s an in-house Bulova movement and they don’t have an automatic anymore… The precisionist movement is a high-quality high accuracy, courts movement with a smooth second hand sweep… You could kind of look at it as a Seiko, spring drive movement! For the poor man! One interesting thing is that the precisionist movement is usually large and associated with chronograph’s… This one is a three hander, and it appears that they shrunk down the size of the precisionist movement to allow for a 40 mm case… That’s pretty cool… I’ll be ordering the one with the red dial!
Bulova are part of the Citizen group so you could say they have Miyota. They use Miyota automatic movements in their Devil Diver (Oceanographer) watches.
Totally agree, not sure a budget automatic movement makes this watch nearly as desirable as the proprietary (some might even say "manufacture") Precisionist movement
Oceanus packs a lot of functions in an analog face. Underneath it contains the most advanced electronics one can find in a watch. I think they should try to focus more on a simple 3-hand with date design. Most people would use their cellphones for more complicated tasks anyway
From an engineering perspective, I don't see why an automatic movement would be better. An automatic movement's sole advantage over quartz is the sweep, which Bulova's Precisionist movement destroys. Also, consider the fact that cheaper automatic movements aren't really that impressive.
So happy Casio has launched the Oceanus line in Canada. Been looking at this JDM watch for 3yrs now and finally sold here. Still hard to get at local Casio dealers in downtown Toronto, but glad they are offering more models now as I will get one soon. The Oceanus line is the best quartz watch out there
I purchased my Limited Edition CASIO OCEANUS OCW-S7000A-2AJF for less than $1100. I think it's a deal for the price I paid. It's loaded with tech, the blue bezel looks awesome in any light, and extremely comfortable.
I don’t understand the anti- quartz snobbery here. It’s a perfectly good watch with a beat rate higher than grand seiko. Bulova just needs to work on case size and dial design/finishing
I'm pleasantly surprised to see Bulova release an attractive Precisionist, because they are few and far between! I own the 96B229, and the seconds hand sweeps smoother than my automatics. The only marks against it are the scratch-easy mineral crystal and (for me) the 42mm case, though it's a thin watch for the size,
1:53 If the bulova watch is towards watch enthusiasts, then it makes sense to have a reputable and great quartz movement rather than a mediocre mechanical movement at the 600 price range. If people want a high end quartz movement that won't break the bank, then Bulova fills that demand. If they use a mechanical movement then they are against every other sub 500 range mechanical watch from microbrands, and so on. You seem to be implying that watch enthusiasts exclusively enjoy mechanical/automatic movements.
totally agree, not sure I would look twice at this watch with a cheap automatic movement that doesn't move the needle. Plus the smooth sweep of the precisionist's second hand is something to behold
One thing he didn't think of is this is a reissue of a 1970s watch. It was the quartz crisis then and most watches were quartz. The Swiss were holding on for dear life.
Bulova really should find a way to integrate Citizen's Eco-drive with their precisionist movements. That would then be the ultimate movement, with the accuracy it already has and the super smooth sweep as well as no need to change batteries yearly, which is currently a drawback on these movements.
I do think 1400 for oceanus is worth it, polishing is like GS , it s thin like crazy, packed with high end tech. Comparing with mechanical is not the point, u need to compare it on the grand sheme of keeping time and jewelry.
I inow my Bulova Lunar Pilot with the same quartz frequency is rated at +/-10 seconds per year. I bought it because it’s the only way I can own a “space” watch. But, it is my best grab and go, without worrying about it being accurate. It gets set at the beginning and end of daylight saving time!
I bought the Casio Oceanus Manta S7000SG limited edition 20th anniversary yesterday here in Japan, and I only paid $1700 US for it. I have had another Oceanus for years. I will put this watch up against any other for dependability style and functionality.
Bulova quartz are ok but if you want a properly accurate watch gat longines VHP the most accurate Watch available new (that doesn’t use external time setting)
I think the Bulova is a great watch tbh. The dimensions are great 40mm case and around 45mm lug to lug. In my country at this price point you can get Seiko 5 GMT, so would take the BULOVA CALIBER P102 over any NH3X series momevemnt. And dont forget this movement is serviceable and it has 8 jewels.
totally disagree about the automatic movement in the Jet Star, I'd prefer the novelty, accuracy and sweeping second hand of the Precisionist movement over just about ANY generic automatic movement that you would find in a sub $600 watch
I went to buy a Jet Star 96K112 Limited Edition, I had money in hand, but... it was WAY too small for my wrist. It's not really the watch's fault because my wrist fits watches like the OG Lunar Pilot (45mm), Tissot Seastar 2000 (46mm) and Invicta Grand Diver (47mm). The smallest watch I have that looks normal on me is a 44mm Yelang Pilot Commander Tritium watch. The Jet Star looked like a happy meal toy and I was really disappointed because it's EXACTLY the kind of watch that I like. The reason that they didn't use an automatic movement is because it would be more expensive and it would have a vastly inferior sweep to the second hand. We watch enthusiasts LOVE a smooth sweep and the smoother the better. Bulova needs to do ONLY TWO things to become the serious presence in the watch world like they used to be. They need to make EVERY ONE of their watches a Precisionist and they need to eliminate ALL of their ugly watches from their catalogue (which is the overwhelming majority of their catalogue). Hopefully they learn from their success with the Lunar Pilot and Jet Star. They also need to make a "Jumbo Jet Star" because there are a lot of happy Lunar Pilot owners (like me) who would LOVE to get our hands on a 44mm version of the 96K112.
"Casio lost their mind" huge face palm. High end Oceanus have always been that expensive. Are they worth the price OBVIOUSLY yes! and if you think otherwise you are absolutely ignorant about the production of this watches. Please educate yourself.
A $1300 quartz should be the best phone upgrade possible. Things Oceanus can do that your latest phone can't. solar powered more easily wearable on wrist can swim and shallow diving it's the most accurate wearable watch possible that you never have to adjust, charge, wind, change battery, etc. it's just perfect as is and always. Surely that's worth something. The finish and design is nice, materials are good, it's aesthetic and if you like it that's what matters. It may not be worth $1300 to most but it's not insanely unreasonable.
Practice what you preach brother, this is not the 1st time I see this channel criticize "expensive" Casios, Seiko, Citizen but then its ok spending thousands of dollars on overpriced hyped Rolexes? 😂 Video about that please, lets dish it evenly thats all I'm saying. PS: i owned both types 😃
A big swing and miss from Bulova. The could have recreated the original day-date Jet Star, maybe with a slightly bigger case, and put in a COSC Sellita SW200-1 for $1k to $1.5k. That would have been perfect. Instead they decided to create a watch for precision geeks at an unreasonably high price. Wait a few months and it will available on the secondary market at 40% off.
Completely disagree with your take. The $1k market is saturated with Sellita movements, the precisionist movement is a fantastic and wholly original design found on no other brand, so in an affordable watch this should prove very popular.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a well known watch lover so it makes sense that he would invest. I suspect he could buy C24 outright without making much of a dent in his bank balance, and with the present downturn in sales he probably got in at a bargain price. A good long term investment.

So many people look down on a quartz watch just because they like automatic better ... doesn't mean the bulova will be a bad watch. More accurate for sure.
more accurate and a smoother sweeping second hand than MOST automatic movements. A much more interesting choice than an automatic movement just for the sake of saying it is an automatic
Watches? More mainstream? What are we talking about here - obtainability of luxury watches? If so, then NO! Rolex are for the rich and Tudor is following the same path. Omega too. C. Ronaldo investing in Chrono 24 won't change that... Thank god for microbrands...
About "Casio losing their mind": I hope you're not trying to pretend that watch collecting is a sane endeavor. I wear a Casio Oceanus OCW-T4000 a lot, especially for travel. This watch has been through the wringer with hardly any evidence of wear. It's not perfect, but no watch is. The blue sapphire Oceanus models don't really do it for me, but if the quality of finishing is a grade or two above the finishing of my model the price of $1300 may be worth it for those who like the design. I can think of far worse watches to spend $1300 on.
Bulova Precisionist movement is mesmerizing, it is like looking at Spring Drive, the accuracy i think is +-5s/yr not sure but definitely not /mth. But $600 is too steep. Casio Oceanus is too niche as there is really no direct comparison with other watches so only for diehard fans i guess.
