    Personally I love to see him play, especially with Medeski and Wood and my favorite guitar player John Scofield. I really enjoy what he is doing and he is a joy to listen too.

    Tilting the drum is for comfort man. The reason they used to tilt the snare in the first place was because they were used to it. I think most of the original "drum set" drummers probably started out snare drumming. They probably originally learned from drum corps, then decided to get into using a whole set. In super old drum corps, it's likely that the mounts would tilt to one side for the snare. Since they got used to that, they purposely tilted it on the drum kit.

    That hi hat is A.Zildjian&C.I.E., and it is totaly unimportant. Billy could use any cymbal and he would still have his sound. We could drink a case of youtube-poison, and we could still stay strong enough to catch the esence.

    Ok as he toured the world for years with M M & W he just really could not improvise. As he played with Top Jazz artists ...he just could not improvise...Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

    i look at all the best drummers in the world.young and old all of the best drummers have the snare tillted a little towords the bassdrum .not towords you that is wrong .so there is a reason for that look at buddy rich or gene or art ...and max or belson dond play down on your drums play on top of the drums.sore you got in to a bed habed you can correct it as times go on see if you like it better i do.

    @Justin Kaye you dont come across as a nice person. Sound like you have some personal vendetta against the guy . musicians in the music industry dont respect and wont respect someone that talks shit about other musicians. It great to have an opinion but sometimes you just type/open your mouth too much.

    • @ChicWebb
      @ChicWebb 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank, AquaAnim, for your response to Justin Kaye. Obviously he knows very little about Billy Martin from his comments. Thankfully, I know him pretty well so I would like to take the opportunity to straighten Mr. Kaye out about the misinformation he is generating.. 1. Billy did NOT study with Bob Moses. Bob was one of his greatest mentors, but he was not officially a student. He was a member of Bob's musical organization and played hand percussion to Mr. Moses' drumming. 2. Billy does nothing to prepare for a performance and does not practice any technique, rudiments, licks, or patterns on the drums. His vocabulary was developed during musical conversations with Medesky and Woods onstage. My personal advice to Mr. Kaye would be to work on himself as opposed to spending his time criticizing honest musicians.

    What is a "perfect rim shot"? Are all the hands made the same way. Why should a rimshot be perfect? Maby we need a perfect snare drum on a perfect stand, on a perfect floor? Why can't you understand or feel that all great art is unique. Soldiers and politicians in their uniforms are "perfect", a perfect lie.

    his playing is pretty sophmoric and unoriginal. he is totally "overly busy"

  • @loveisthelaw20042004
    @loveisthelaw20042004 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Billy Martin is not a jazz drummer. Im not sure how anyone thinks this. He studied with Bob Moses who is a great percussionist jazz drummer. But Martin cannot really improvise in a real way. He basically plays shit that he has practiced and worked out...he is not responding to the music. Its all structured.
