That look on Fonda's face when he takes a drink....from apprehension, to disgust, to shock....acting his @$$ off!! Love it.
🤣😂💯👍
I love how he looks at his watch , like he is really timing it.
8 years of aging in about 5 seconds... they could make a fortune with this method!
This is probably my favorite scene from this movie. Jack Lemmon earned his Oscar several times over with his performance as Ensign Pulver.
All four of them actually earned one.
Man, I need to watch some classic movies again. I used to watch these with my Grandpa when I was a kid. :)
Seth dendy every person you see here is dead, 63 years. Time passes too fast
I've been watching this and PT-109 since i was about 10 or 12.
Mister Roberts is the best movie ever made
@@antuan9325 I was born in 1955. Am I dead too?
Pulver snatching the rest of the Coke back from Doc and capping it--Gold.
A precious commodity on a boat in the South Pacific during a war.
Laugh because it's funny and laugh because it's true.
Making hooch from scratch is a time-honored military tradition.
And a time-honored prison one as well.

This past week, and they literally did this at my son’s dine-out, they used motor oil and sand. How appropriate.
"This calls for a medical opinion."
Every time I have a scotch, I think of this scene and smile.
Thanks Uncle Al, CRM USCG WWII (LST 885), CW4 USANG, for letting me lay on my tummy on your living room rug under the cigarette smoke strata in the 1970s and watch this gem of a movie. I still think one of the best lines in all of moviedom is when Roberts tells the stretcher-bearers "we won't be needing that...Sorry" Here the aging of the scotch is my second favorite
Watch it again. Or for the 100th time like I have. Doc dismisses the stretcher bearers.
Him singing "she won't know the difference" always cracked me up.
Such a clever, funny scene with three brilliant actors.
i really need to watch this movie again. it's probably been about 20 years. this scene was memorable for me and it just popped into my head. great movie. i love the classics.
TCM has it on its demand list.
Currently (May 14th 2024) on Tubi, move fast! Also, HBO Max cycles it thru their lineup every now/then.
One of the best and funniest movies that I ever watched, and I always cry at the end. I always hated when they killed the hero at the end, but I guess someone always has to die in a war movie.
It also has subversions. Roberts is hero of story and competent officer, but his ultimate motive is to get out of that Bucket.
Ah, The one MythBusters episode we didn't get. The Mr Roberts Red Label recipe
Jack Lemmon is so young here. I'm used on seeing him in Grumpy Old Men.
Jack Lemmon was so hilarious 🤣
Watch -> The Apartment
it’s great
And about 4 yrs later he plays an older woman in Some Like it Hot, the funniest work he ever did.
"We're on the right track"
How did William Powell not even get nominated for an Oscar for this role?
True...last movie he ever did.
William Powell made a lot of films with Mryna Loy
@@hl6087 -Thin Man.
By then that level of excellence was expected from Powell.
One drop of iodine for taste lol
The Johnny Walker Red secret formula!
It actually works. Trust me. I'm an old sailor. Had a couple of genius wiseguys on ship who knew how to get their hands on torpedo juice. They added the ingredients and voila! Johnny Walker scotch.
Never underestimate a Navy Snipe with figuring out ways to make alcohol❤❤❤❤❤
Man this movie makes me want to join the Navy again in a millisecond!
The subject of distilling spirits (for home use only, of course!) came up in discussion, and I just had to go find this clip! :D
I FORGOT I HAD IT!
I wish they would show this on Movies! channel. I read a book written in 1941 after Pearl Harbor by a Chicago reporter. Parts of it have the same sound of the movie, a long, boring trip on a slow supply ship in a convoy.
As a scotch drinker myself the thing I always love about this scene is that you could probably sell a non-scotch drinker who hasn't acquired the taste (the ones who always say UGH how can you drink that stuff?) that it is made out of clear grain alcohol mixed with iodine and hair tonic and they would believe you.
Trust me. I'm an old sailor. We did.
Don't forget the cola
you mean it's not?
@@bevaconme No, the hair tonic has been replaced by liquid smoke
Great scene. One of my all time faves. But Ensign Pulver . . . NEVER underestimate a woman no matter how blond.
Especially if she's Jason Voorhees's mother.
Brilliant
My favorite scene in the movie.
This concoction is probably better than Johnnie Walker Red. But then, almost anything is.
Rip Henry Fonda The Original Juror 8 And Jack Lemmon The Remake Juror 8
Other than the end the best part of the movie
The plot elements were very much like Mutiny on the Bounty...
Great scene from a great film. One question...what’s the mysterious “alcohol” they had last night? They just refer to it as “alcohol”... was it gin? Vodka? Tequila?
Probably grain alcohol, you could "obtain" some in the Navy back then. Google "torpedo juice"
@@ChristopherHailey It was grain alcohol. Doc mentions it when he tells Doug about the crew having a Sign The Captain's Name contest. The medical dept. contributed two gallons.
Grain...aka Everclear
Isn't there also a part of the movie where Jack Lemmon made up a batch of jungle juice?
No, it was the crew. They brought it to the cabin in the new handy-dandy portable container, aka a fire extinguisher canister to celebrate Mr. Roberts transfer to the USS Livingston.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
The twiling 😣😣
wont know the Diffene
It's a good one, but where the rest of the Movie?
