Here’s What Can Happen If You Don’t Use Your Emergency Brake

  • In this video, I tell you what can happen if you don't use your emergency brake when you park your car. These things apply to cars with manual or automatic transmissions. They have a very small likelihood of happening, but the consequences are pretty severe, so I still recommend taking them seriously. I recommend always using your emergency brake when you park your car, whether you're parking it on a hill or a flat surface.

I’ve always used my parking brake every time I park. I hate seeing cars roll slightly when the parking brake isn’t used. And of course, it’s way better for the car when the parking brake is used.

Please stop calling it an emergency brake; it’s the parking brake.

It's a weird thing Americans do. But most of them can't drive anyway despite having licenses.

Our driving tests tend to not be too hard, to put it lightly. Don’t remember any mention of roundabouts, parking brake etc. many of the driving test inspectors (forget the term for them - the mean people who ride in the car with you when you take your test) don’t even know how to drive manual, in case you’re testing on one.

If you never use or never have used your parking brake to park your vehicle and have depended on the transmission, it is NOT a matter of if, but when you tranny will give. in an automatic tranny, when the parking pawl will give.

If you are trying to say what I think you are trying to say - get someone with English skills to edit your comment to make it clearer - then yes, sue.

I don't get why you Americans call it an emergency brake when it is not designed to be used in emergency's but it is for securing car while parked. Where I'm from it always been called parking brake.

Same reason they have giant gaps in the SIDES of public toilet stalls - they're just weird.

I think it has to do with most of our cars being automatics. I use the parking brake in my automatic car, but I see countless people not using it. 😬

I don't put the emergency brake on because it is stiff, I'm weak, and I can never take it down. I know, sad.

You don't have to pull it all the way back

The trick is that when you take it off, you have to pull it up slightly before/when you push the button in. Also, the less you use it, the stiffer it will be, because it will rust. And when you need it in an emergency... you don’t want it stuck or broken.

@@overand Also some cars need you to press the footbrake hard to take the parking brake off

I never use my parking brake in my truck, never had my truck roll, or have the “parking assembly” fail.😎😎 ha
