I didn't know what to call it, but I think free verse is what I use to get my ideas out when I want to tell a story quickly instead of in narrative format. I just have the story in my head and then I write whatever sounds nice, and it comes out in stanzas.

I never read poetry before. I don't read poetry now, but I discovered free verse, and I started writing my own. I never intentionally sit down and write. It just comes to me and i whip out my phone section and jot down 7-15 lines and there's a poem. It's really really cool.
I notice in my every day life I play conversations in my head, of how i can been more effective, responded better, etc. But with free verse, I just spit out my ideas, and the beauty in them is the emotion and transformation or epiphany discovered by the end of it, rather than the words I choose myself.
I never re-edit my free verse. I keep it a time capsule. And maybe I tread on the edge of dear diary, but I re-read them, and I feel that it holds up as something more than that. At least most of them do. I feel it comes natural to me and im glad its something I discovered and can explore more of. Thank you for this video!

Thank you for this. I've always been a fan of rhyme poetry but now I'd like to be more open minded. Sometimes, when you are about to express fellings, you just cant suit your thoughts into rhymes. That is why a lot people like free verse imo.

thank you so much for this! i wanted to get into free verse poetry bc of so much that i’m feeling right now but i just didn’t know how? now i know there’s not really rules, just focus on flow! pointing out the whole 5 words in one but 8 words in another line was helpful in squashing a worry of mine haha

Thank you for posting this. Found this while looking more into free verse poetry as I always thought I was a cheat by using this form. That I should learn the rules before breaking them, but never having the patience to study. Having not taken any classes on the subject I would just write from the heart. But would often discount myself or let life's worries get in the way of letting it out on the page. Should I get back into writing poetry, I won't question the form I use or care if it is published or posted or even read at all. Poetry can merely be a release. That feeling one gets before writing is often times as you have described a warmth in the chest, but also it could come from the empty feeling, the lump in the throat or the burn of rage. Thank you, you've touched one more spirit!

Valuable information you are sharing here. Free verse can be difficult for some new poets. There are some free verse poems that are two pages long The visual aids are good to.

Following one is my poem which I wrote three years ago.
    A Silent Song of Tree
    .........................................
All in the stormy night I soaked.
I was rolled and drifted by water stream.
Half I buried at soft stony river bank side.
But all this happened like a dream.
As days had passed,I woke up inside of the shell.
One early morn in optimal sunlight fall.
I tried to stand on my roots,
    As they found their routes.
I unfolded tenderly green leafy fingers up.
My first smile and dance by gentle touch of breeze.
Oh..As I grew taller bees and colorful butterflies ,
Flew to reach my tops and became bosom mates.
My joy bloomed in unseen colours of flowers.
A life longing to tick like a royal clock in towers.
I stood by flowing river of Time.
And scattered seeds of life to mingle in nature's rhythm and rhyme.
    (By. Yakubpasha)

Prose = short stories, novels, scripts, and novellas. Poetry can be prose though, like where novels are written in poetic form.

And that would consist of my raps too right
I'm guessing it's the same thing I don't know lolz but they're stanzas are different so is that free or is that verse they do rhyme

It sounds like free verse unless you’ve chosen to write a haiku, limerick, etc. those are poems that aren’t free verse because you have to follow strict rules.

To much rhyming takes away from my story I think. Instead of saying what I really want to I find myself getting distracted by trying to find rhyming words instead, that's why I enjoy free verse much more.

Or you could take up the challenge of finding exactly what you want to say *and* making it rhyme. You are choosing not to rhyme because it will involve hard work. The masters rhymed, even modern masters.

Sorry, I just saw this! Free verse doesn’t have rules you must follow for it to be considered a poem. For example, a haiku, limerick, etc. you must follow certain rules or else they won’t be considered that type of poem.
