Only 70s bands like Journey could score big time in more than 4 decades. Many 70s bands including Journey, had extra long Shelf lives that carried them through the mess in the 8O and the deaths in the 90s and the blank space known as the 2000s.

Steve Perry WAS in a band called Journey. The band's biggest hits were when Steve "The Voice" Perry was with the band (from 1978-1996). Since they parted ways, he has done some solo work. Some of his great solo songs are "Strung Out", "Oh Sherrie", "Foolish Hear" and "Missing You". If you're going to watch those, you should do "Strung Out" first, then "Oh Sherrie", as there is a narrative thread between the two. The latter two are very mellow songs that really showcase Steve's incredible voice.

My first concert ever was Queen in the Houston Summit in 1980, 41 years ago. The second was this one, Journey in the Houston Summit in 1981. I believe they played two nights, recorded them both for MTV and it eventually was released as a live DVD and CD. Both were great shows. The greatest thing about Freddie was he absolutely commanded that arena and the audience. It wasn't just a concert, it was a show, an event. The greatest thing about Steve Perry was his voice was absolutely perfect. As Freddie commanded the show, Steve commanded his voice. If you heard it on the record, he could sing it in the show and then some. Not a bad couple of shows to get started!

I been two Journey concerts here in New Orleans with Steve Perry as the lead singer and I was never disappoint one was in an open stadium outside and one was inside a close arena

What's really crazy is how he became the lead singer in the first place. From his Wikipedia:
"Original Journey organizer/manager Herbert had been given a demo of an Alien Project song, "If You Need Me, Call Me", and was told by producer Scott Mathews that the young singer would be a great replacement for then-current frontman Robert Fleischman. Fleischman had never signed with Herbert's company (preferring his previous manager) and had not fully coalesced with the band's then progressive rock style. Perry was brought on tour and to avoid alarming Fleischman was referred to as a roadie's Portuguese cousin. During a sound check in Long Beach, Perry surreptitiously performed a song with Journey while Fleischman was away from the stage; soon thereafter, Herbert informed the band members that Perry was the new lead singer." His time as a "roadie" also gave him the opportunity to learn all their songs so he could just step right in.

I didn’t think I’d see the day when someone said they have not heard Don’t Stop Believing. Maybe it’s just here in North America that we hear it every week in some form or fashion.

    Journey ruled the 80's.
They set the bar incredibly high.
Every member is a world class musician.
They are most definitely in the top.5 greatest bands in recorded music.
Their rabbit hole is deep....and filled with epic hits.
    Cheers! ✌👍👌

No offence to Journey but ruling the 80s didn't take much. Heart was on its way down, Lynyrd Skynyrd had crashed, Elvis had died. The 80s was left with Ca-rap, punk and new wave. luckily, several 70s hold overs like REO Speed Wagon, Journey, Aereosmith, Styx, kansas, Queen, Michael Jackson, Toto, olivia Newton -john, Elton John, Billy Joel, linda Ronstadt, ELO, HALL and Oates, Foreigner, Boston, Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, The Comodores, The Police, Pat Benatar, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Etc, and many, many MORE!,provided enough great music for the 70s AND 80s to live off of with more to spare! aND MANY WERE STILL GOING THROUGH THE 90S, AND 2000S.
