  • I had a ton of fun making this video, can you tell?
    Welcome to 365 Days of Prog! The series in which I undertake the daunting task of listening to and reviewing 365 musically progressive albums throughout the year of 2022.
    The list is made up of albums which were recommended to me by various people as their favorite albums.
    If you want to help me buy more pens for writing these reviews, consider becoming a patreon: / 365daysofprog
    Happy listening,

    I absolutely love this album. Tim Smith was such a unique and brilliant musician. May he rest in peace, we will praise him!

    Cardiacs are a one off.
    There's nothing like them.
    This particular album is a work of absolute genius but pick any album by them and you'll find that each one is an absolute masterclass.

    Yayyy! Oh I'm so glad this one clicked for you. It is such a beast of an album - even as someone who's listened to it inside out for the best part of two decades I still tend to break it into two sessions (one per disc) because there's just so much to take in. Madness, Queen and The Beatles are all definitely good touchpoints (amongst many others), and the deeper you dig into to Tim's music the more odd connections you'll spot and, conversely, the more you'll realise just what a unique one-of-a-kind songwriter he was. Can't wait for you to dive into "A Little Man..." as I think the classic lineup with the greater emphasis on sax, keys and percussion might be even more up your alley.
    But yeah, I could ramble on for years about this album, and this band in general. Truly life-changing stuff (I speak from direct experience here). I was lucky enough to catch them live twice in what would sadly turn out to be their final years and those evenings are amongst my most treasured memories. Not just because the music was so bloody brilliant and mad and exhilarating, but the sense of community you got at a Cardiacs gig was like nothing else I've ever experienced. Just a bunch of the warmest, strangest, friendliest people you could ever hope to meet, all there for a good old knees-up and a bit of a boogie to some of the most mind-splinteringly strange pop music ever written. Joyous.

      Yep, I recently stumbled across the Piffel tracks and was flabbergasted. Tim actually channeled Frank Zappa. He was self deprecating and unpretentious. But too modest. One of a kind.

  • @outernothingness1177
    @outernothingness1177 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Well, they didn't just "happen" to have the same name. Tim and Sarah were married at the time. (Btw, William D. Drake's solo albums are well worth checking out. It's a bit like a rural Wordsworthian version of the Cardiacs.) (And yes: the piano on "No Gold" is recorded backwards.)

    • @365DaysofProg
      @365DaysofProg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! I am really shocked at the fact that I have not uncovered that information up until now. Truly fascinating stuff.
      And "No Gold"'s piano is haunting, I love it.

    I love the effort you’re going to with this project, yet you didn’t flip the video so that the 365 days poster is shown properly. I enjoy that though. Thanks for shining a spotlight on this majestic band and album. I will have to watch others of yours; I’m encouraged that there will be some Gentle Giant in there given your title video. They were a huge influence for Cardiacs by the way

      And this band is a great one, and I also have a video about "A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window" up too.
      And I did not know that they were inspired by GG, that's really cool! I only have a review of "Free Hand" as of now though...

    An amazing album, one of my favorites. Thanks for the review. Lost my cd copy years ago and have been searching for a reasonably priced replacement. Very pricey. Just curious, what are your plans for the channel after the "365 days" expire?

      Loved to have made this review! So you're welcome.
      Sad to hear about that disc though...
      And as for your question - excuse me if I'll be lazy and not elaborate - but the short answer is that I will be staying on TH-cam but not doing the daily uploads of album reviews but rather more spaced out videos that revolve around prog - mostly video essays and more humorous and passion-driven projects.

    • @toddhill7483
      @toddhill7483 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm, interesting concept 365 prog albums in a year. I probally have well over that number, but I listen to other stuff. Thinking about it I probally listend to The Wall back to back 365 times when it came out, and I have not gone mad, yet, so you are probally safe. Anyway a nice review, but I am biased as JP is a mate. Everyone should listen to Sing to God at least once in their life.
