Colin Moulding and Mick Karn, it all makes perfectly sense! I love this interview, and being a bass player myself I do agree with you that some of his lines are really melodic yet aggressive and fun. Love them, love him
Yeah, Scott Thunes played like a beautiful and highly energetic thunderstorm! Loved his masterful playing and great tone (he loved Tom Fowler’s bassplaying in the ‘Roxy and elsewhere’ era and used that as an inspiration too).
Great interview, loved hearing all the Zappa chat I've seen Scott Thunes and Mike Kenealy playing with the Zappa lads and they were phenomenal. Cardiacs rool 🤘😁
I’m a huge Wildhearts fan and had the pleasure of meeting John after an acoustic gig he, Ginger and Chris Catalyst did at a local venue about 11 or 12 years ago, just before Ginger released 555%. A friend of mine who was also at the gig collared John after the show and we three chatted for a short time and ended up attempting to sing harmonies to Macc Lads songs 😂
"Well she wore big knickers and she worked on t' sewage farm!" Ironically I had the same kind of experience with a sax friend of mine singing Macc Lads songs while on safari in Kenya (randomly).
Well, as a Blur loving Cardiacs fan who plays a Fender Jazz and is a fan of Scott Thunes.., that interview was bloody brilliant. Jon Poole is a top bloke.
Jon is also one of my favourite bassists. He's an excellent guitarist and, if he had some time to bone up, he'd be a damn good drummer as well. Jon is a genuine talent and his work with Willie is breath-taking. By the way, Collin Moulding got that melodic, sliding thing from Sir Paul.
I first heard of "Random" Jon Poole with his association with Ginger Wildheart / The Wildhearts. Jon's work with Ginger is phenomenal - Yoni, 555%, and the new It Came From the North. If you have a chance, have a listen.
Jon Poole and Cardiacs are AMAZING!
First time listening to Cardiacs was before this starts, will continue after this is good stuff.
I was just thinking this morning why Mark doesn't do more interviews, because I always enjoyed those videos. And here one is. I summoned it!
Yeah. We’ve got quite a few sat waiting to be edited.
I just love Jon. Such a genial guy, and he's always been so friendly and happy to talk to us fans. Lovely guy. Great interview.
Great interview was really interesting hearing Jon's stories while playing with Cardiacs. Will definitely be giving Dowling Poole a listen
True legend with Cardiacs and Ginger, adds fun to any band he's in
I think he's a bit of a genius, so much depth, a never-ending pit of notes, makes everything look effortless and a good laugh to boot, top bloke mun

Amazing! Love Cardiacs so much ❤

Great man and I have seen him a number of times with Lifesigns. Love his work.
Love this! Great content! I've really enjoyed the Lifesigns albums! His lines are great!

Now I know why you’re my favorite bass instructor on TH-cam, Cardiacs are the best!
I love Jon Poole, and anyone who loves Cardiacs. Plenty of fish in the pond ! RIP Tim.

... And Jon is prominently playing on the latest Unquiet Music Ltd album. his skills and creativity have drastically improved this music. Thanks Jon!
fantastic, thanks, Mark!

Best fading in I have ever heard!
this is great, thanks for doing it
Thanks for this! Now let's hear that Stoneage Dinosaurs arrangement.
Hey John! We met while I was singing at Rookery Manor in Somerset a few years ago. I hope that all is well.
Cardiacs aka the greatest band in the Universe!

And I will concur with The Dowling Poole comments.
Anyone who is missing the melodic quirkiness of XTC should listen to The Dowling Poole.
John lays down fantastic bass on Dave Bainbridge’s 2021 album, “To The Far Away”.
i like that fender Jazz Mark
