The resistance while inserting the screen is the screen's flex cable getting caught on the cartridge pin solder points. Lifting the cable to make sure it clears those points will allow smooth insertion of the screen.
Thank you for this great guide!
Thank for watching!
ive been loving darkwing duck recently too. get that cart man!!
I’m on it
Another great video! I used that middle screw and had no problems with mine, I'd say the d pad and buttons feel a lot more solid and responsive when it's in place. I'm not sure why that particular one would be more likely to crack than the others. That resistance you encountered when you were pushing the screen in, it's the ribbon cable catching on the pins for the cartridge connector. If it's working fine, I'd leave well alone. If you wanted to fix it, you would be easiest opening it from the back, lifting out the motherboard and resetting it so there's no pressure on the ribbon.
Hey man ya I think I will just leave well enough alone!
@@adinwalls absolutely agree, if it works it works!
We have the same Qix strategy ☝
I think we have to accept that we are 8 bit and 16 bit twinsies
Nice, I ordered one of these a couple weeks ago hoping it would be here for a spring break project with my kids but it's taking a little longer than I thought lol... will come back and reference this if we get stuck on anything. I'm hoping this will quench my handheld thirst for a while, I've got a drawer of devices now from the last couple years. When it comes down to it this seems like a perfect blend of OG hardware with modern conveniences, esp paired with an Everdrive.
My order is stuck in Dallas. At this point I am thinking it is lost.
Ya they take a whille to ship sometimes. Yes I like the combo of cartridge thrifting and when I just want emulation I will use my RGB30
Oh dear I hope not!
This is awesome 🤩
Tis indeed!
Damn, that definitively tickle my tinkering tin little heart. Not sure how did you fit the tea and biscuit in it, I may have missed this part!
Haha. I moved the tea away I was so worried a spill I on my precious new GBC
My dream is to mod my original GBC andò transform it into a GB Pocket with a beautiful LCD screen and a battery as well... But this one seems to be the perfect alternative, especially for those who would preserve the original hardware and have a modded GBC anyway
Ya it’s a great way to get the “old” Gameboy without risking to mess up a vintage one. For example I have my DMG but am hunting for a more banged up one to mod coz I don’t want to ruin my good one 😊
Thanks for the awesome videos Adin. Quick question about the dpad - does yours have a lot of resistance to press? Compared to my Miyoo Mini Plus and my RG35xx, it takes so much force! Maybe I got the wrong membranes!
No not at all. Check that it’s in correctly!
I'm excited for mine to come in and I don't even own any gb or gbc games (yet).
lol that’s fine. Time to start thrifting.
A very sincere apology for misusing the word "quintessential". I am ashamed...
Put the battery connection in before you screw it in and put the back on makes it so much easier
Okay interesting tip.
How did you get yours before me, I live in Canada and it's been stuck in New York since last Friday 😢
Yo I just subscribed to you the other day 👍
I ordered mine ages ago
So built mine. Love it but the speaker did start to rattle a little and also some of the battle graphics in Pokémon red show distorted. Any fixes for these two things?
Maybe check that the gasket is installed correctly on the speaker. There are a few graphics settings in the system menu. Maybe play with those to see if it fixes your Pokémon game.
@@adinwallsI’ve played with the settings but no luck. What’s weird is the graphics issue comes and goes regardless of what core and other settings. It’s hopefully fixable via a firmware update.
If the d pad is kinda not perfect, would an original one fit, you think?
I think it would considering this shell is almost identical to the one they make for modding a GBC
The intro to modding a gameboy 👀
Yup!!
I just built mine about a week ago and I’ve been running through Pokemon Crystal Legacy and it’s awesome!
My only complaint is that the speaker even on minimum is much too loud. But besides that it’s surprisingly good quality for only being $83.00 to US.
Hey man. Okay thanks for those comments. I’ll add them to my notes for the review
Also how are you finding the dpad. I am finding it quite inaccurate.
I've heard on reddit that you can put a little piece of foam in front of the speaker and it helps with both preventing rattling and the volume.
What about d-pad?
This is in my cart right now!
Just stuck on what colour shell and buttons.
Hmmm. There’s also the DMG colour combo
@@adinwalls went with solid black shell and gray buttons
@Guitario666 ooooh. Can’t wait to see it. Man you’re going to love it.
What’s the typical shipping time for these parts?
I think mine took 4 weeks to South Africa.
Oh thank god, you're not saying Tri-Wing for the screws. XP
hehe never heard that term
As far as I know tri wing is the official term 😅
Triwing is the proper industry term.
@@RicoSuave93710 No, no no, NO, NO NO NO. TRI-WING IS A DIFFERENT SCREW HEAD.
@@bubbleman91 Tri Wing is a different kind of screw head. The ones used on Beyblades are Tri Wing. The ones used on Nintendo consoles are Y-Type, also known as Tripoint. Tri Wing are based around a triangular shape that has three wings coming off it at an angle, hence the name. Y-type is shaped like the letter Y, with the three lines intersecting at one point,
Hey they never sent me those stickers for the screen!
Oh okay. Maybe I just got newer stock?
I ordered one of these and just got mine a few days ago and got my burnmaster yesterday and been archiving all my games 🥹 I been loving it so much! I unfortunately lost my Mario tennis save (user error I should have done proper research) but I been playing it every day like all day 😂 and I love it works with the work light I love dialing the brightness down if I need it and just being silly to use that old nostalgic light 😂 it was fun but it took me hours cause I’m quite slow but I’m patient 😊
Ah that’s sounds like some good wholesome nerdy fun!!
@@adinwalls It really has been!! 😃 this beginners guide is one of the few that show that screen installation. Thank you! I was so nervous with that but it went well 🥹
Ah I’m glad it went well. The screen is scary if you’ve never done something like this before.
@@adinwalls Right! I have very steady hands and I’m very patient but I was just extra careful and I hated having to test it and then remove it and redo it 😣 I was lucky to have the tools on hand because I’ve fixed my DS before the og one 🥹 so had the tools.
But having to do the screen and this was really my first project I just wanted to increase my odds of actually making it work 😂 I’m very happy though I took that time because it turned out like the video 😄 I went for Transparent Blue with the lake blue membranes and Pearl buttons
@piplup10203854 awesome!
I can find the money, but I lack the courage to order this to Serbia. If the shipping cost isn't trough the roof (I haven't checked), those bastards from Customs/Post office will either steal it or brake it...
Ah sorry to hear that
mine is on its way now. great price as well £65
Wow the whole gang is getting one!! Seems like it’s the new fad in the retro scene. We had better buy up those cartridges quickly!
for the price it was silly not to get one.mine left chine today so i have to wait a while but im looking forward to playing on it.loving your videos.keep up the great work!@@adinwalls
@leecollins5479 thank so much for
Still waiting for my delivery from FP 😢
Hope you get it soon
Did you get it? How long did it take?
What was the cost of building this
