Very good video for new comers to learn about the Viking era, nicely balanced details and not making it confusing. (Since the Viking times were long and a lot of events happened). Great video!
@Lenny Murphy rudeness is merely the expression of fear. Not the same as trolling. Something you should have learned in school kid...but not from books.
In Norway we are taught that the viking age ended with the battle at spiklestad as king olaf died and became a saint. The story goes that his hair and nails kept growing to show that christianity is the true religion
It's also an undeniable biological action. When a person dies their hair and nails continue to grow for about 3 months (I think) after death. It's similar to reactions the body does that made Europeans in the 18th century believe vampires were real after exhuming the bodies of suspected 'vampires'
@@akakios7386 Coo stuff. Thanx I love most Norse lore and history. Odin/Woden & GUNGNIR the most But I was just being stupid lol I am a "Viking-Zombie-Ninja-Vampire" And don't try to top that by adding the word "Slayer" at the end of that, cuz I am that too. It just doesn't sound as coo.
Tolkien took a lot of inspiration from Nordic mythology. I am from Sweden, I viking and a LOTR-fan ;) Like elves...thats from "asatron" the religion that we viking have/has
@Bjorn Blood Born they won't do that, they love the Arabs to much. The country will be ruled by Arabs in another 20 years. What a disgrace of scandanavia.
For future reference Newfoundland is pronounced Newfun-land not New-finland or New-found-land. Sorry if this comes across rude, only meaning to be helpful eh
Vikings were Nordics of Ethnicity. Just to get that straight. Were mostly of Anglo Jutland descent (Denmark) Southern Norway to Trondheim. From Gotland to Uppsala in Sweden. I am one myself. So no debate about race. Classic Nordic Østerdal types with more extreme Nordic features from the Anglo belt through North Germany into Denmark and Southern Norway. Some were Fælisk/Frisian/Blond Brachycephals, though, mostly long-faced (Above 95 units in Facial index) and below 75 in Cephalic index = dolichocephalic skulled. Leptorrhine Nasal in the low indexes 60 - 46 (Average in the 50s). Golden and Rufous/rufosity in pigmentation, with stern dark blue eyes with sometimes a blend of grey or white showing.
Yes the coasts of Britain used to look a lot different the grey parts are basically indicating what the coasts used to look like :) sorry for late reply hope this helps
majority of Danish Vikings had red hair dna study show and Swedes blonde hair, not sure about Norweigians, since Scandinavians have never been all blonde (or red haired) there would have been brown and ash hair as today, black hair would only be if a Viking married a woman with black hair from another country, the people they married from other countries and the child then had black hair and became a Viking, however most of the people they mixed with were from UK, Baltic nations, Finns and Slavic people like from Poland and Russia so not a lot of people with black hair, but there were Sami in between and maybe some further south although more rare
Friday is Freja’s day, not Frigg’s. Also the day names come from the Anglo-Saxon’s pagan days, men vi dansker gav mange mere ord til Engelsk og bynavner til øst og nord England.
some Finns probably adopted the Viking culture as did Sami and Baltic people, I heard some say Rurik who founded Kievan Rus was actually of Finnish decent, however generally Finns were not Vikings, and there are not Scandinavians as they speak a totally diff. language part of Urelic languages not Germanic, so it is closer to Estonian, Sami and same family as Hungarian
Why isn there any writings about vikings before the 6th century ?? Suck a large number of people and such a powerfull people should have been mention before thr 6th century but no one methions them , not the Greeks ,romans, ancient egyptians ,brits its litterly like the vikings came out of no where and no one knew them. I don't know why Viking Age doesn't touch upon other cultures that went a viking. The whole area around the baltic sea was constantly raiding eachother well before the viking age aswell. The oldest longboat with a sail in the Baltic sea was also found on an Estonian island.

Putting the Bluetooth symbol on that guys shield was perfect! Nice.
Pretty sure that's where it came from in the first place
the bluetooth symbol is a rune.
