Just NO! I have been in the Serengeti several times and that is much too close. Elephants have flipped caravans for much less and certainly the driver knew that. Elephants are the most dangerous animals in Africa and the driver knew that too. The people in that caravan are extremely lucky they were unharmed And, of course, had the elephants flipped the caravan, it would have been the elephants fault! We are visitors to their territory not the other way around and respect for them is essential.
Wow...reminds me when visiting South America in 1978. We slowly drove through a zoo. Stopped and waited a long time due to lions sitting on the road ahead of us. A baby elephant approached the passenger window where i was sitting! Yikes! Pushed our pickup truck. I closed the window quickly! Seems he was in search of food... Several monkeys jumped in the flatbed hitching a ride with us!
idk if apples are the right choice. there is an African fruit, small light green and about half the size of a normal apple (don't know the name but I think it starts with 'M') which might be more appropriate for elephants edit: got it: it's the marula fruit from the marula tree (Sclerocarya birrea)
