nothing beat this game in its prime. i’d argue and say forza horizon is one of the best car video games but this game was different and special. it’ll always have a place in my heart.
When I'm in races my eyes always flick back and forth between the road and the minimap. It took me ages to get used to, but it gets better, and it keeps you in the action :)
The game took out features that made Burnout Revenge great. Crashing traffic, modes, and the best feature of all...getting to explode your car after you got taken down and destroy other racers in the process.
Spent so many hours on this game. I was a god. Loved the stunts, extreme speed, jumps. played it all the way untill my data got corrupted then cries and never played again. Cant wait for criterion make another installment on the new consoles
Except that criterion won't make another burn out game because they discontinued the series so they could focus more on need for speed, but in my opinion, burn out is a much better series.
I love this game so much, it's a lot more fun than most driving games out (though NFS Hot Pursuit is kinda similar...). I've never been a fan of racing simulators, so this is perfect for me. I still remember when I played B3: Takedown with my friends, now we can play Paradise online. And it still looks beautiful for a game this old.
It's not really a problem, because you're never far away from another race. Only on the very last races does this have the potential to be annoying, but when you factor in the exploration aspects (finding all the jumps and billboards) and setting gold medal times on every street, there is always something to do near you that will get you where you want to go. This is easily one of the best racing games ever made.
I think some stuff, like restarting events, was added post-launch, but I could be wrong. Still, an incredibly fun game. There's nothing better than being in a road-rage, seeing 5 cars smashing into each other ahead of you, then seeing one get forced into an oncoming taxi, spin out, and flip inches over the top of your car.
Aww this made me realize how precious my ps3 is.. cos i got a ps4 and i haven't played this like since forever.. i plan to sell ps3 with 29 games and with downloaded games inside my ps3.. no way I'm going to sell it lol.. gosh how much I miss the good old memories.. i really love burnout revenge and this and psp version.. wishing that they have it on psn store.. burnout is best racing games ever.. never ever sell your precious ps3 lol.. someday we all have to look back and realize how lucky you are.. damn.. ps1 to ps4.. shit i feel so old already bawahahaha :P
First game I ever played online just when I got Xbox live. Friendly community and so much to do in the game. Literally spent all day everyday playing it. Best arcade racer out till this date in my opinion
awesome graphics very crisp all running at 60 fps locked without one dip!! this game was way ahead of its time in the racing genre when it came out 5 yrs ago and still to this day is!
Day and night can be turned off. Races can be restarted without driving to the beginning. The navigation system if fine since the hub brings up all upcoming intersections and you have a marker on the mini map telling you the direction you want to be going in. Part of the challenge is that you are given a starting and ending point and how you get there is up to you. It wasn't an oversight it was intentional. If you need a game that holds your hand that much just buy mario kart
Modnation Racers and Burnout Paradise: The two best racing games ever made. Period. Burnout Paradise is the best, though. Criterion seriously loves it's users. 3$ for their best DLC? Hell yes.
Burnout Paradise (with the v1.9 patch)is the BEST ARCADE RACER EVER! It only takes like 24 hours to Platinum but since it is so fun it gives around 80 hours of fun until you 100% your Licence. Then to the Free DLCs which are really fun although some of the challenges are stupid but fun. Surf Island add around 40 hours to the fun, and the other Legendary and Toy cars add fun to the already funny mix, Cops and Robbers adds Competitive MP. And all the DLCs had their price cut by half. 10/10
The difference in Burnout Paradise is where in Burnout Revenge you choose the event and start somewhere predetermined, but in Burnout Paradise you can start the event anywhere and each road has it's records for that event/mode.
@jpablomlopez Yeah, they added Day and Night times and Bikes, If you want to restart a race you just open up Easy Drive. It's acually easier and has like a couple more hours of gameplay now.
The next burnout should be a sort of best hits collection. The open world of paradise, the road rage of paradise, the crash mode of burnout 3, the racing of burnout 2 and the soundtrack of burnout 1
just when I saw the title "paradise city" in the video I imidiatly had the song "paradise city" by guns'n'roses in my head and bam u put it into the vid. great! looks like a really fun game. defenetly will get the ultimate box
Never could get into it. The open world was fun as a between the races kind of thing, but the lack of dedicated race courses was too big of a loss, with the 'point A to point B' races being too confusing and just not fun. And 'Showtime" was a very poor substitute for the classic Crash Mode. As for the online component, i could really not care less. I gave Burnout Paradise a shot, messing around with it for several hours on a few different occasions, but i quickly lost interest every time. The game looked great and played well as is usual for Burnout, and the open world was a novel idea for a racing game, but it unfortunately resulted in an overall unfocused experience. The game just did not engage me, and was a big step down for this great series.
@MapleCombat74 Actually thats not what he meant. He's saying if you fail at a race and need to restart it you have to exit the race and drive back to the original start point. I was pointing out that this is no longer true. You can restart the race immediately without making that trip. Didn't say anything about wanting to start a race from the other side of the map. And that is a minor gripe in any case
@DivineBanana I do actually know that. And I was responding to someone who would have known that also. They were bitching about those specific problems well after those updates were made.
yeah, i downloaded the update soon after and realized you could, but i still preferred non- sandbox burnouts b/c they were more creative and less repetitive.
To restart a race, you have to drive back to the start point. It would help if there was a retry option from a menu on the "you lost" screen, but there isn't. I did well, untill I got the day/night cycle update, then it became mostly unplayable. Don't assume someone is bad at a game if they didn't like it. If you liked it, then ignore my opinion and let it be (GTA4 sucks in my opinion, that doesn't mean other people wont like it). Don't insult those who disagree with you.
I really wanted to like Paradise city. Loved the older burnouts, and I'm still playing them. While the graphics and music are great, it just didn't do it for me. I liked that there were shortcuts and lots of hidden things, but racing at insane speeds just doesn't mix with checking a map every 3 seconds ... Also, if you haven't bought it yet, beware, on the xbox the update on this game is a few gigs.
@RC1312Kad Just that mental image made me SO happy. Gotta love the AI sometimes when cars steer away from you just to create a bigger mess haha. Yeah from what I hear some of the refinements were made post release and the game is made much better for them. Just love it
Patch v1.9 was godsend, now the game costs 8$ and yet I hink is way better than NFS or many other racing games, you'll have 100+ hours of fun with this one and almost no frustration at all thanks to that update.
Spot on. But it really isn't Criterion's fault. Blame EA and their marketing team for telling Criterion what to make: Another soulless wannabe Fast and Furious game (at least Hot Pursuit was, so I;m assuming Most Wanted is as well). But yeah, you're right nonetheless. That old Criterion magic is gone now.
The thing that really bothers me in this game is that there are no building lights at night, it really feels empty at night with every building and lamp post dark
I'm finally gonna pick this game up. But is there a game of the year edition, or something like that, that combines all pieces of DLC onto one disc? Or do I have to download it all.
@EvilHeadBoy Yeah I know mario kart was a massive clusterfuck of tears, rage and shattered tv screens but there was no confusion with where to go and what to do. It really couldn't have been more straightforward. Give a driving game too many intersections though and eventually all the kids start whining that there isn't an information desk at the corner of every street.
You can restart, and the whole point of the game is to KNOW your path! I don't have to pause while racing! And honestly, I think it's better not to restart, so you can get familiar with the city.
@deathbyfacebook No you can only unlock them, you can spend real money on a time savers dlc to unlock all the cars straight away if you want. And no, you can't upgrade cars, only change the colour
IGN, you dont need to always look at the map, your blinker lights will tick when the game thinks you should turn right or left, i didnt see this until a few days so. you might miss it.
It SUCKS with the day/night cycle. You get 12 minutes to race, so 1 try before you gotta wait another 12 before you can see what you are doing. Open world races are an OK gimmick, if you there was a better system for telling you when you need to turn.
i would recommend this game to anyone. first game i got when i bought my xbox360 4 years ago and still brings a smile to my face when i play it. one of the best game ever.
@MrGundestrup no. it clearly states on the burnout paradise game that if you are a psplus member then you will get the game at no extra charges UNTIL your subscription ends.
The navigational problems during a race is NON-EXSISTENT! The car blinks in the direction of the next turn you should take and there will be a BIG FUCKING icon on top that tells you to either go the way to the right or the left! This guy must be REALLY bad at this game in general if he hasn't utilised those HUGE HINTS. It just annoys me when such a proffesional channel acts so unproffessional!
@game442 The game didn't come that way right after its release. Criterion changed that after some complaints so don't blame this guy for not knowing because it wasn't there when he reviewed it. That said, IGN doesn't want to go back this far to change a review released two years ago.
"you can't restart races" yes you can , all you have to do is access the menu on the d-pad and select restart event and it sets you back to wear you were
@tootiserolll2 i guess you haven't played it? Crash FM is there with plenty of sweet music, faith no more, guns and roses etc. and the driving around the city is fun when you give it a shot cuase of all the jumps and stuff that you fund (and use later in events when you know they're there). and the arrows blocking off the street.... i kinda agree with you. like, it's awesome to pick your own route, but it would have been nice to have blocked off events too.
it is definitely worth buying this game. it is just so much fun, u will enjoy all the modes, it is just amazing. i wud recommend buying the ultimate box version tho, it has alot more stuff in it than the standard version
It's been over 4 years...where is a new Burnout by now? Especially one for the Vita? Crash mode is a must, and I am hoping for the old school track design style, rather than an open city. Leave that for Midnight Club. This is what made the different games so enjoyable, the fact that they were just that...different.
So easy to crash in this game. I mean so much as chip an object such as a vehicle or wall and you're totaled? BS. And way too many obstacles during races making it extremely tedious while navigating around the city. I miss the old burnouts like 2, 3, and Revenge where it seemed a lot more balanced.
I hated that so much. You could run into a fly and it would fold your car in half! I missed being able to traffic check cars in your lane, launch them at other racers and take them down. It was like trickshotting in a racing game...
Exactly. The crashing system in this game takes away from the overall player experience in my opinion. The old Burnout games were really fun and had a very high replay value.
The soundtrack in this game isn't great, I'm glad they added the custom soundtrack feature! I added most of the songs from Burnout 3, Makes the game a whole lot better! :D
if you lose a event you can restart it by using the d pad
you can do it now, but originally at launch there was no way to restart

Criterion should make another Burnout game for PS5 and XSX.
My favorite racing game of all time- to this day I play it

I can't agree with you more...

Here in 2018 bring on the remaster
It should be ILLEGAL for EA to have Turned Criterion Games into a Multiplayer designer, and for killing the Burnout Series.

The game is quite easy to finish. But man, just fooling around in the open world for hours is awesome.
