As much as I would love to go back in time to experience how it was like, I enjoy living in today's time. I would love to explore a forgotten mine! That bottle house! What is that thing at 13:56 on the wall?
Looked like a broken drill bit...
Oh, I totally agree! I'd love to visit that era, but DEFINITELY not stay there. 😅 The mine was so intriguing! Unfortunately, I came very poorly prepared to explore it because I never expected to find an open mineshaft. 🤦🏻♂️😂 I honestly have no idea what thing was, so I'll leave it up to the experts in the comments to answer that one. 😅🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for watching, bro, and I hope you're well! 👍🏼
@@beyond_civilization Agreed! Okay, Figure i'd at least ask! Always come prepare! But again, i'm not hahaha
Great video!! Very informative! I recently fell in love with Rhyolite when planning a trip out west.
I left the pink boa on the memorial when we were there in May. ☺️
I think she would approve.
Lol, that's awesome!! I'm glad you got to visit the site as well. Thanks so much for your positive feedback!! 🙏🏻
Thank you, for another excellent video.😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I had a great time making it. 🙏🏻
Absolutely fascinating...thanks for taking us there. Really fires up the imagination...what was life like there? All that construction taking place in such a short time!
I totally agree. This place is like a capsule frozen in time! 🤯
Hello, Just found your channel and love it! As a Texas social studies teacher, and ‘romantic’ wanderer, I love this stuff, especially your Texas locations. Have you explored “Mica” and “Micolithic” Texas? How about the San Carlos coal mine? Both are in West Texas and both had railroads serving them. The San Carlos rail line had one of the few tunnels in Texas. It still exists, but on private property. Thanks, Chris, Lewisville, Tx
Wow, I've never heard of either of those, but their story sounds fascinating. I'll look into those. Thanks so much for your support!! 🙏🏻
There was a second newspaper: "The Bullfrog Miner".
The population actually exceeded 10,000 at one time.
The larger buildings (like the Cook Bank, School, etc.) didn't decay naturally. They were blown up for a movie shooting.
Rhyolite was used as a backdrop in several movies, including "The Island".
Interesting! I wasn't aware of those points. Thanks for the info! 👍🏼
Were you able to fully stand up in the mineshaft?
I actually was! I'm like 5'7", and it was a bit snug, but totally possible to stand up. Anyone much taller may have had trouble, though. 😅
Mines get hot once they go deep enough, because the earth is hot inside. The shaft is probably deep enough that it is pulling warm air up from the depths.
That's pretty crazy. Thanks for the info! 👍🏼
