Abandoned Mining Complex on Alaskan Island! (Treadwell Mine)
how'd you get the drone shots? I'm a 107 pilot for a state agency in the area (border), and even I have a ton of paperwork (to NPS + the FAA), plus 30 day wait, before I get granted a voucher.
Thanks for watching! 👋🏼 I flew from the Mexican side of the river. 😁 According to nps.gov: "If I am flying my uncrewed aircraft in the national airspace and do not take off, land, or operate from NPS lands and waters, is there anything the park could do to stop me? Unless an uncrewed aircraft pilot obtains special permission through the FAA, use of unmanned aircraft must remain line of sight. [...] The NPS has no authority outside of park boundaries."
@@beyond_civilization clever thinking!
Yes, Connely Air Force Base just north of Waco Texas is used for a technical school and there is an Aerospace Business as well as others there. The housing has eventually been updated or replaced by/for the TSTC for student housing. And some private homes in that area now. It was also still used for President Bush when he flew in to visit his ranch near this area. There where closer runways to the ranch but not large enough for large planes. At least this base has been used and not left to nature. I’ve lived in the Waco area 34 years and it’s been in the private sector sometime before that. Outside of Texas we where stationed at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire that was closed as well.
Used to go out there when I was a kid. Very nostalgic to see. Thanks for posting!
Please review the San Marcos Army Airfield. Almost completely intact, and thanks for your research!
I'll look it up. Thanks so much for the tip, my friend! 🙏
If the abandonment of bases are evident it would be a good idea to renovate them into drag strips, race tracks, casinos and RV parks
I always wondered what that thing at El Dorado was.
You need to do a little better research before you start giving dates
It was built in 1910 and destroyed in 1913 by flood
when I was a little kid i got to go in a trip inside the military base in Eldorado Air force Station .
It was still being used as a depot in '95, I was a guard contractor their for 6 months.
amazing
Thanks so much for watching 🙏
Bergstrem in Austin was abandoned and the city of Austin took it over and made it the city's airport instead of Mueller that was way too small to be efficient.
Abandoned Amarillo Air Force e Base was forgotten in this article.
Thank the liberal Bush for that
Maybe they are abandoned coz of proposal of a man bcome shark took over
Looks like erosion from the flood like you mention in the video. Have you ever heard of Red Bluff in Mississippi? - I did a video like, 5 or 6 years ago - needs to be updated hahaha.
Yes, I really enjoyed your video! Red Bluff is definitely still on my list. Maybe in 2025; we'll see. 😎👍🏼
They should reactivate them for the immigrants
I like the fact that the military went through the trouble to bury a tank.... And individuals dug it up. let's hope it was not contaminated by something.
The base at Marfa Tx is also known for the "Marfa Lights" which are and unexplained light phenomenon that was even investigated by the National Geographic. I have seen them on several occasions.
I love exploring this place.
The positions and photographs do not match up with reality as does the description of the places.
There are a large number of the Auxiliary fields in the SW, most are now civilian commercial fields .
There are some in the north central US also
Fort Wolters is still being used for training. I stayed in the old ass, dilapidated barracks there in 2012
Thank you,
Abilene has camp barkeley and 13 atlas middle silos from the cold war within a 50 mile radius from the city
Wow & Happy New Years
Huge thanks for watching! 😁🙏🏻
why aren't you telling where the damn bases are at, or where they were. if we didn't know about them we for sure don't know where they are.
Google is your friend
What about the POW Camp in Hern Texas?
Reese Air Force Base Lubbock, Texas
Very cool video!!! Now I gotta binge watch all the other ones!! Definitely gotta subscribe
Thanks so much for supporting my channel! 🙏
Amazing the damage due to the flood and continued erosion. Thank you! Looking forward to the next video.
@tomcaldwell5750 Thanks for watching, Tom!👋🏼 I always appreciate your never-ending support. 🙏
Thanks for the video. This is the kind you do best. The road seems that it was poorly located, engineering-wise, as at 2:35 and 3:43, considering the closeness to the stream. Some of the washed-out segments were clearly built on artificial fill next to the stream, which is asking for trouble. It should definitely not be rebuilt on the same alignment.
Good point. Thanks so much for the kind words, and have a great rest of the week! 🙏🏻
Very cool Mauricio! Always interesting! Happy New Year my friend.
Much appreciated!! 👍🏼 Take care, my friend. 🙏🏻
A lot of wasted money because of paranoia. Our $36 trillion dollar deficit which will never be repaid reflects it.
Many people have built structures on that island, and it has more people than you actually think. It is frequented by people fishing and hunting hogs. There is even a homestead, complete with a runway, about halfway up the island.
I don't blame them. It's so peaceful there!
There was an Army base years ago in Palacios, Texas that my father in law was station at. Don't remeber the name now but it was bought and and somone sold lots on the site. Didn't go over to go too good,
This sounds nice.
My GrandPa was the Civilian FireChief on the Hartley airfield during WW2 He told me heartbreaking stories of the aircrashes that happened there during the towed glider operations It had affects on him for the rest of his life He passed away in 2003 at the age of 94
People fail to realize that every charge against him including the sexual assault had no evidence and David was proven innocent in court months before the siege. But they atf took it all at face value and did allot no research. They did the raid as a publicity stunt to make people forget ruby ridge “ atf arrest predator and illegal gun dealer “ yeah sounds good on paper but as it turned out he didn’t actually do anything illegal
Did you hike out before it got dark?
Yes, we got back to the start point of the hike when it was starting to get dark, maybe around 6:45 pm. 😅
@ I might have missed this in the video. It sounds like you went either in the fall or spring then. Is that right?
@@johnburns9696 Unfortunately, no. We went in early June, but we lived to regret that, as the temperatures were already approaching the 90's by that point in the year. I definitely recommend what you said: fall or spring. 🤦🏻♂️😂
Thank You for this. I live in Texas 🤠. So many base's in Texas because they could train year round.
My pleasure! Yeah, there are just so many of them here; I had to be very selective for the top 10, but I did my best. Thanks so much for watching, my friend. 🙏🏻
@beyond_civilization I was going to tell you that I live about 28 miles away from Matagorda Island 🏝️
May want to come to Sweetwater Avenger Field where women pilots were trained during WW2. Part of history
Was my favorite place to visit in Louisiana. Hope it opens back up to the public again one day.
Also, PBY training base on Eagle Mountain Lake north of Fort Worth. North of that there was an air field in Rhome and north of Saginaw, next to North Fort Worth, was Hicks Field.
You know it’s a robot voice when recreation is pronounced as reecreation.
There are signs of one of the hotels is still standing it is about a 20-minute drive from the Aldridge sawmill
Wow, I missed the sign. Really cool, though! 😮
Had to slow your video down to .75 speed in order to appreciate the features you filmed at the locations. However, very interesting. An interesting place to consider is Galena Air Station in Alaska. It was a Cold War base with four jet fighters ready 24/7 to scramble to guide the Soviet Bear nuclear bombers out of our air space.
Understood. Thanks for the feedback! And for the tip. I'll make sure to check it out! 👍🏼
I pass this place a lot, I remember wondering about it when I was younger its cool to know its history
Reminds me of the highway in Centralia, PA, until it was demolished.
