Glad to hear the audio version of this! Matthew Waterhouse is a great narrator. I always thought this took place sometime after Warriors' Gate, either before or after The Keeper of Traken but before Logopolis. After all, they seem to have a K9, probably MK III who was later given to Sarah Jane.
Oh he is an excellent narrator. And I enjoyed that story a great deal. I always felt like Adric got a bad rap. He was young yes and made mistakes. And the relationship between the 4th and 5th doctors was entirely different. I would love to hear more stories
Matthew Waterhouse has done audios like this for big finish. One I highly recommend is the audio A Full Life, that is a really awesome piece. And he wrote a audio novel recently that just came out called "Watchers". It also has the 4th Doctor and Adric in it.
This story could also be called "Chasing Your Tail" A plot device that never gets old. Time and Space, the minisodes, and Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS being recent variations.
I though of a different Conundrum; The Virgin New Adventures featuring The 7th Dr, Ace and Bernice, written by Steve Lyons under Virgin Books in January 1994.
Yeah, I remember reading this story when I as 10, and having the same though. But, it's a welcome piece of nostalgia, and of Mr Waterhouse - so I'm happy.
The good Doctor misquotes Sherlock Holmes at about the 20min mark. To get the exact spot I'd have to listen to a good chunk over again and I'm simply not so inclined.
The reason for that appears to be this. The annuals were designed to cater stories for the main dominant TARDIS crew or at the very least what ever crew members were left in the TARDIS by the end of each season. To try and stay relevant with the show and these annuals would have to be put together during the same time the show was made. As for this story it's part of Tom baker' final Doctor Who annual and he was traveling with Adric at the time and Romana would have left by then.
@Zarius I wouldn't necessarily say Matt Smith is too big, more along the lines he has a lot on his plate and can't fit big finish in at the moment. The big finish audios are done at a time when certain actors and actresses have got a free space in their busy schedules. People like Bonnie Langford and Mark Striction are still acting on stage and TV to this day. Hence why they aren't always there every year doing the audios. There will be a time and Matt Smith's schedule they allow him to be able to do a couple of audios to start off with. I'm not right now. Plus he probably wants to take on other roles and experience other things before coming back to Doctor Who.

It's incredible to hear how well Waterhouse can do all the voices, even hearing him do a young version of himself is amazing!
