I installed a pair of these Pearly Gates on an Ibanez JS100 which in my opinion had horrific factory pups, the Duncan PG's cured my sound issues. Great clean sound and even dirty they more than hold their own. Highly suggest trying them if you are not totally happy with your factory pups...a game changer in my opinion.
I put DiMarzio pups in my Ibanez back when I got it because I thought it was the thing to do. Anything is better than their factory pups. I'm thinking amount replacing the '57 classics in my LP for a set of Pearly Gates. I'm thinking it will add a bit more character.
I also have an Ibanez (RG 1121PB-CIF) loaded with Dimarzio Fusion Edge pickups which are pretty good but sounds way too much modern for what I really enjoy to play. I think I'm gonna replace them. Would you still recommend the Pearly Gates set after 3 years since you posted this comment? 🤔
I never really tried any others on my Ibanez, but I am still very happy with the results. I have a 93 USA HSS Strat with a factory Floyd all original and it came with Dimarzio humbucker at the bridge, always thought it was a PAF. The Dimarzio on my Fender always blows me away. Not helping you much I know, I love them both but still lean on that Dimarzio, a beast.
One of the best pickup demos I’ve ever heard! Clearly showed the full range of tones that these pickups are capable of, and gave clear differences between bridge/middle/neck options. I also loved that there was no talking, only sound. Just the way it should be!
Man this guy probably sold a lot of these pickups... tone is pretty much perfect and what I imagine a lot of people are searching for. Very very well done video - give this guy a raise SD
The Pearly Gates are pricey, but catch a set used. they are so versatile and sound good no matter clean, distorted, compressed, whatever. Vey versatile humbuckers and split well.
Best demo Ive ever seen/ heard. Great playing, great sound and overall joy to just sit here and enjoy. I even forgot at one time this was a demo. Thanks my friend
I like how versatile these are, I know the Swedish metal group "Drain S.t.h" guitarist "Flavika" used pearly gates through a jackson dinky and it sounded great!
I just had these installed in a 2016 LP Studio and WOW!! My $130 Fender Mustang II amp sounds amazing!! In other words, these pickups make a cheap amp sound good. Fantastic investment.
I watch this video just see this guy play. The pickups sound great, but this guy incredible. Not just fast , and flashy, but tasteful, and musical. Great player.
I can hear Billy Gibbons with all of the tones of these pickups. They really did an incredible job with these. I will be getting a set of these at some point.
I've just taken delivery of a Pearly pair for my Standard SG. Will install them on Saturday. After seeing/ hearing this excellent Demo, I'm sure the results will be ...heavenly
I put a set of PG’s in an SG a few years back and really wasn’t happy with the result. To my ears, it sounded like the bridge & neck were each part of a different set, they just didn’t seem well matched at all. Anyway, they both came out, and in the end the SG went too; part-ex’d for a Tokai LS116F - much more to my tastes.
On my Gretsch semi Hollowbody I installed pearly gate pickups. Best decision i made. They sound like a dream. However, I prefer Seymour's sh-4 JBs on my PRS. They blew me away. My PRS now sounds like a $5,000 core model.
I LOVE the Pearly gates neck pickup. I have one in my Carvin CS6. It's full of tone. I play through a Marshall DSL15 stack. When the gain is set back the notes/chords are big and full. With the gain cranked up a bit it really starts to sizzle. It has a lot of clarity and can really cut through the mix. The bridge pickup has a little too much treble for my taste. It does sound great, just not exactly what I want. Thankfully SD has the Saturday Night Special. And it pairs really well with the Pearly Gates.
I bought me some Custom shop Pearly for my Epiphone Custom Les Paul I gutted the Chinese wiring out and I installed USA 50s wiring and new USA switch and input jack it's a three way switch like the USA Les Paul's and I put keystone locking tuners and tone pros on the bridge and tail piece and I leveled and polished the frets it's a Ebony fret board it sounds better then most USA Les Paul's now thanks to Semore Duncan I love these Pearly gates and for some reason with time they seem to sound even better.
Came for the pickups!!!.... After reading some comments as to who this is playing?......The game is up!!!..... This is Bernie Marsden.... Absolutely brilliant to hear him doing the demo for these pick-ups.... You might argue the toss but I know for sure this is Mr Marsden, ex-Whitesnake & various other bands... Great player!!!..... If there was a prize Seymour, I would quite happily accept a set of Pearly Gates & a jam session with Bernie :))
Those sound fantastic. I'm very interested in them. I'd love to play Les Pauls with these, the Seths, and the Saturday Nights, maybe even the tried and true Vintage Blues.
After watching this demo I feel sad. Because the era of such players and such demos is gone. This IS the Music. Oh, how I wish there were more musicians like this one.
I almost forget to focus on the sound of the pickup.. the player is so so great at handling and making melodies.. appreciate the demo and the guitar player of course 🙏❤
Is this the guy from My Twangy Guitar TH-cam channel? He films just like this, in all black only showing his arms and he loves orange guitars. As well as he is an amazing player! I'm pretty sure it's him. Awesome TH-cam channel for guitar players and music lovers!
Hi, I already have a Paul with the hotrod set, and I have another one with an ebony bored. What combo would you recommend to give me more bite and sustain? thanks
A lot of thanks to Seymour Duncan for doing these videos. It helps players a lot to decide. A question though, I have a Epiphone les paul custom pro. I wanna change the pickups and I have decided to go with the 59 custom hybrid in the bridge but I am confused about the neck pickup. I have heard a lot of good things about pearly gates for the neck position and I quite like the sentient too. So can anyone help me out. I will use the neck pickups for cleans and smooth solos. I will play blues rock, 80s' rock and a bit heavy metal with this guitar. Some help would be appreciated guys.
@GL D I have made mine splittable. Just ensure you have all the 4 wires in the pups and you're good to go - of course it needs some soldering! (Well, the 2 wire version, if available, could be reverted back to 4 wires but why have that trouble.)
1.) '59 / Pearly Gates combo 2.) Pearly Gates / Alnico II Pro combo 3.) Custom Custom / Jazz model combo 1.) Duncan Custom / Jazz model combo 2.) '59 Custom Hybrid / Whole Lotta Love combo 3.) JB model / Full Shred combo 1.) Blackout set

I have one of these in the neck of my les Paul and I have a Gibson dirty fingers in the bridge. The pearly gates is a fat sound but it’s too smooth for me I think it would be good for classic rock or maybe even jazz/blues it does have that fatness you would love if playing cleanly and if using lower gain like ac/dc, you definitely need a boost pedal to cut through if using in the neck like I am for solos in a high gain situation. It might be a great pick up but definitely not in my guitar with a dirty fingers in the bridge it’s just not hot enough for me. When using this in the studio it got lost in the mix again this doesn’t mean it’s a bad pickup just not for really high gain stuff, if I had the matching bridge pick up it would probably be fine so just don’t use this pick up if ur playing a peavey 6505+ or a mesa dual rec with the gain up.

"Pups", so silly.
@@eldesgraciado6690 You probably think it's silly when gear heads use the acronym "GAS" too 🙄😒

Great pups, and probably the best demo i've seen of what they can do. Great looking Hamer, too!
Now THAT'S a demo tape! The cinematography quality is superb, and the guitarist is an exquisite player.
Amazing! Both the pickups and the playing. Thank you for posting this! And thanks to SD for some very cool pickups.

Best demo video for a guitar product I’ve ever seen! I kinda wanted a set, now I’m sold. The guy playing is awesome!
Awesome demo. I thought about getting these last year and didn't. Definately getting them now.

My favourite Seymour Duncan pickup set! Both bridge and neck! They sound sublime in a HH superstrat with 22 frets
I'm considering installing a pearly gates into a fender Esquire. Any thoughts
I have these in an old Ibanez AX120. They’re dynamic and articulate, without being excessively “hot”. They have a nice clarity to them.

After much consideration and listening repeatedly to this and the antiquity video back and forth, it looks like this set is what's going to replace the stock pickups in my Bernie.
