A clever way used by the ancient Arabs to know thoroughbred horses

  • One of the customs of the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era is that if their horses multiplied and they were confused about them, and they did not differentiate between purebred horses and hybrid horses, they would gather them all in one place and prevent them from eating and drinking and beating them, and then they would bring them to eat and drink the same people who beat them. These horses are divided into two groups. A group rushes to eat and drink because they are hungry and do not care what they did to them. While the second group refuses to eat from the hand that hit and insulted them and in this way they differentiate thoroughbred horses from hybrid horses.

      Nothing cruel. Arabs are a lot gentler with their horses than anyone. The beating is symbolic for the purpose of the test. Now, tell us genius how would you tell your own bred horses at that time with no new tech of today's???

    • @shelljw

      Technically, calling a Purebred Arabian Horse , or any other breed of Horse in its Pure form, a "Thoroughbred" IS actually correct. This is because the context the word is being used in, is that the horse is Pure Arabian, not a Crossbred or Partbred.
      Yes the Thoroughbred as we know it today is a breed of its own - but go back through the 'Thoroughbreds' breeding as a racehorse or the like as modern day folk know it and you will find various horses in there that are not from one source.
      Back in the beginning of the TB being established as a breed you have Arabian stallions, There are obviously some Paint horses that have snuck in, when you see some of the horses that have been registered, and Dilutes for the same reason.
      In many years gone by, there have been Cleveland Bays in the bloodline infused in there, ones listed as 'so and so's cart horse' also listed - then there are ones with just 'unknown' this is why the Thoroughbred horses we know as a breed today have so many temperaments, builds, ease of handling by different types and levels of education as some are highly strung, some are the lovely quiet type.
      In this case, it is purely used as a term for a Purebred Arabian Horse - ie: Mr squealy there.. lol

    • @diarmuidkuhle8181
      @diarmuidkuhle8181 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The term is used interchangeably. 'Thoroughbred' without a specification refers to the modern English thoroughbred race horse.
      But 'thoroughbred' also means 'pure bred'. So Arab thoroughbred is a thing. Some classifications also include the Akhal-Teke as the 'third throughbred' because they have been pure-bred from specific stock for hundreds of years and are possibly even more ancient than Arabs as a breed.

    Are you confusing this with story about the 5 mares of Mohammed? I am just not quite sure you know about Arabian horse history. The ancient people you are speaking of that bred Arabian horses were Bedouins. They certainly did keep track of their bloodlines and did not cross breed Arabians with other breeds. They often linebred, for purity of blood and specific strains of Arabian horses, Kehilan, Seglawi, Abeyan, Hamdani and Hadban. The DNA of the modern Arabian horse has remained unchanged for thousands of years. If there were so many "hybreds" as you suggest, the DNA would not remain unchanged.

      But it would have been crueller had they decided not to let them mingle, for horses are very social.
      One of the prized legendary features of certain horses was they would let only the king ride them. in other words they were smart, paid attention to your character, and remembered whether you were a piece-of-sh*t or not. I think that was the real point of even caring about pedigree in the first place.

    Where did this information come from? It doesn’t sound right and doesn’t make sense. Arabs valued their horses and lived closely with them. They chose foundational mares based on a similar test, but no beatings were involved. A large herd of horses were hungry and thirsty over several days, and they were turned out in sight of food and water. Those who returned when called, despite such hunger and thirst, were used as the 5 foundational families of the Arab breed. Abayan, Seglavy, Hamdani, Kuheilan, Hadbani. That’s the story as I’ve always heard it told.

    Thoroughbred breed of horses was developed from Darley Arabian, Godolphin Arabian and Baerley Turk. Darley's import year in Britain is (1704). The narrated story is about the pre islamic era. Hence, the narrator most probably intends to show ways of the Bedouins to differentiate between the arabian purebreds and halfbreds.

    What a load of absolute garbage and an attempt to smear the people who developed the Arabian horse, the Bedouin. A Thoroughbred is a breed of horse created in England in the 1600s for racing, which used Arabian horses for the foundation. Arabian horses were carefully kept track of by their Bedouin owners, and those pedigree papers are on the possession of the breeder of Crabbet breeders of Arabs in England. The Bedouin treasured their horses, unlike other people in the Mideast. Horses, the mares, slept inside the family tents, with the families. What a pack of lies this YT is
