Being a Euro we know and trust Minarelli for sure! My son currently runs a KTM LC2 which is a 1997 KTM 300 exc chassis with a Minarelli-built Yam DT 125 LC engine, something that never got to the USA I guess. In fact all the DT125 and 200LC's were built in Europe as was the suspension etc as Yamaha also bought Paoli (ex Ceriani) to make Kayaba equipment in Italy.
A friend of mine had that bike too! its not as powerfull as others 125 engine, but for dual sport purpose is such a fun machine! Almost indistructible!
I'm not sure anyone actually "wants" a 125 stroker nowadays, in Europe it's the limit for young riders and the emissions are always a problem, Yamaha went to a 4 stroke in 2006. Because young riders are limited to 125cc and 15hp there's no advantage in having a 2 stroke, they are equally slow.
Yamaha, like all Japanese manufacturers abandoned 2 stroke development many years ago which is why the only changes to the YZ250 are cosmetic and bolt on component, because of stricter emission requirements all the Japanese manufacturers deemed it unprofitable to further develop 2 stroke technology, unless Yamaha decides to change the way they do business you will not see the YZ250 engine change, the major expense of changing all the tooling and the engineering support required to make that expense profitable is a risk that Yamaha is just not willing to make, they literally handed the whole 2 stroke market to the Europeans and KTM saw the opportunity and ran with it and now dominate it because they have no real competition when it comes to bringing R&D into full scale manufacturing, one off hand built concepts are one thing but rarely do they ever develop into full scale production models available to the general public and when they do they are usually no where near what the original concept was.
GPX tse 250 is kinda that. Doesn’t have FI but it can be given oil injection which would make it a good dual sport, and it takes Yamaha parts for like 5k.
I got a custom built wr 300 yz and it would be awesome to see Yamaha do something but unfortunately I doubt they will do anything because obviously Yamaha doesn't care sorry but it's true .
Needs balancer, and 6 speed, steel clutch basket, and the top end needs to last as long as a KTM ....................Yamaha needs a whole new engine design.
I would like to see a true MX bike with 2T engine that is fuel injected because I feel that they would destroy the 4 strokes in Supercross and might even be better on fuel. The technology has been around since the 90s on sleds and outboards and what's even crazier about it is that they were found to produce lower emissions than their 4 stroke equivalents. Please make it and market it in America!
Looks awesome, though I'd be way more excited about Yamaha doing another rendition of the rd350/rz350/banshee 350 twin cylinder two stroke with TBI/TPI, electronic power valves etc. Even if it was only a 300cc for a new street bike like the r3 but maybe called something different like rd3 or rz3 since it'd be two diff platforms merging. 😈🤙 Sadly already know something like that would likely never be sold in the US and probably won't be made again, can always dream though lol.
Right on, they were the best. They could just build the old RZ350 same as before (cheap tooling) but with w/efi and a pile of smog crap to make it USA street legal.
@@jamesstacey529 Hard to top the R6 engine for WFO track power and toughness. Might need to be a 500 twin 2T to beat it. Meanwhile, the Kramer HKR EVO2 R is at 276lbs w/ 81hp - in the right weight range and worth the money.

You should know already that the tbi ktm new bikes are already having issues. Already plenty of reviews on You tube an the only ones that are not having problems are the videos of the people whom just bought one with no serious hard riding yet, but it’s not good as carburetor golden years an now is money pit over rated an not to mention overpriced. Honestly a lot of guys have them just to say “look what I got”. #smh-ktm
The FI system looks like the modified TSP system that they are currently offering for the TPI's (one injector in the cylinder and one injector before the throttle body). The starter location is interesting, 4t's use that but for some reason the "all new" '23 KTM 2t's still have the starter under the motor and directly driving the ignition flywheel. KTM might do that to be lighter or maybe it offers a mechanical advantage, making the 2t's start better as they need more starter RPM than the 4t's to start.
It’s due to the carb/throttle body location on both bikes. A 4 stroke, the carb feeds into the head, above the cylinder. So the carb sits high above the transmission leaving room for the starter motor to sit underneath it. A 2 stroke, the carb feeds under the piston, putting the carb intake right at the base of the cylinder. The float bowl is just barely above the transmission. So they relocate the starter on 2 strokes. Plus 2-strokes don’t require more starting RPM’s (on a well running motor) because every downstroke is a power stroke. It’s firing twice as many times as a 4-stroke.
@@rostifardian well, not going to argue about an engine that isn't into production. It would be nice to see, until then we can talk more about it once it hits the showroom floor. But for now, it seems like it's nothing more than a KTM tech copy.
I’d love to graft a 300 2-stroke into my TW200…but I’d definitely have to put a new fork up front to get dual disc brakes, and that old drum in the rear would also need to be changed out for a disc! Fantics from what I've heard are just rebranded Yamahas with Italian boutique parts. Probably just the stock pipe being slightly worse on the Yamaha than whatever small batch in house pipe Fantic has.
That motor appears to be cylinder reed induction. The Yamaha engine is obviously case reed induction, so what part of the engine is YZ based? It looks like a completely unique design vs. the current yamaha 2 stroke engine.
Everyone BUT Yamaha wants an updated YZ250-300 that will compete with KTM XC/w Obviously they just want to keep punching out clones for $$$ and don't care. That's why KTM has owned this sector of the market. Owned and raced many YZ's but on a Katoom now.

I am really very curious about this as it is supposed to be euro 5 compatible. The problem here in Europe it's impossible to ride these bikes on the street because of that fucking euro regulation. Euro 5 sounds impossible to me
You would think so, but actually no. In fact, a bike mechanic friend of mine owned a Fantic for many years. (2010 model). As an experiment he decided to not wash the bike and did not wash air filter for 1 year. (and did no othe rmaintenance other than tighten the chain). The bike continued to work fine. Didn't even seem to be bothered by the dusty air filter. At the end of the year he pulled the air filter off and it was still clean inside the air boot. Anyway it's an interesting test - I wouldn't do it on my own bike, but proves they make reliable machines.

I ride many of the new bikes that come out but always happy to throw my leg over my yamahas. Handling, performance, reliability, looks is always complimented from previous yamaha owners. Even though they are riding ktms, huskies, sherco, gasgas, honda, those that owned yzs in the past most always say their YZs were great bikes.
I would like to get my hands on a fantic 300. I have heard that yamaha is going to build the 300x but I have been waiting for that to happen for several years. Let me know if I could get the Fantic and I am ready to make it happen.
Being a Euro we know and trust Minarelli for sure! My son currently runs a KTM LC2 which is a 1997 KTM 300 exc chassis with a Minarelli-built Yam DT 125 LC engine, something that never got to the USA I guess. In fact all the DT125 and 200LC's were built in Europe as was the suspension etc as Yamaha also bought Paoli (ex Ceriani) to make Kayaba equipment in Italy.
right on, thanks a lot for sharing Jim!
Absolutely, a YZ 300 e-start 6 speed will be be a giant killer. They already have e the best suspension, ergonomics and durability.
A 250 2 stroke with a lower and softer seat would be very desirable. Also an engine vibration counterbalance shaft is a gotta have item.
KTM already builds your bike. Nobody buys them.
They are too expensive when compared to other options.
GPX tse 250 is kinda that. Doesn’t have FI but it can be given oil injection which would make it a good dual sport, and it takes Yamaha parts for like 5k.
You can get two stroke street legal gasgas bikes in new England of America at channel. Kaplan America is selling them. Only us dealer.
There’s a plethora of 300 and below 2-Ts. We need a 2-T that’s competitive with 450 4-T for us MX fans. So this 300 is exciting but falls short.
My deposit is ready if it goes into a Yamaha. Happy to see the new engine is TBI and not TPI like the previous concept was
Love 2 smokes! What's your brand?
A WR300x would be a great off road weapon..make sure it’s counterbalanced and bring it!! Yamaha needs to compete with the Euro bikes in Offroad!
Brad sanders agreed but I got that Yamaha to pass a ktm not joking.
That Yamaha is a wr 4 stroke transmission
I would like to see a true MX bike with 2T engine that is fuel injected because I feel that they would destroy the 4 strokes in Supercross and might even be better on fuel. The technology has been around since the 90s on sleds and outboards and what's even crazier about it is that they were found to produce lower emissions than their 4 stroke equivalents. Please make it and market it in America!
Think gas gas already has a 300cc efi 6spd bikes also a 500cc big bore kits available,,
Looks awesome, though I'd be way more excited about Yamaha doing another rendition of the rd350/rz350/banshee 350 twin cylinder two stroke with TBI/TPI, electronic power valves etc.
@@blacklight4460 Yeah, that will never happen with any 2 stroke. Even with a pile of smog crap it cant happen.
@@bradsanders6954 Never say never. Sure it can happen if enough consumers demand it.
Just cram a RZ350 into R6 chassis winner winner chicken dinner 🐔
@@jamesstacey529 Hard to top the R6 engine for WFO track power and toughness. Might need to be a 500 twin 2T to beat it. Meanwhile, the Kramer HKR EVO2 R is at 276lbs w/ 81hp - in the right weight range and worth the money.
I would like to see Yamaha just build a carbed 300 case reed inducted 2 stroke with estart and a nice 6 speed wide ratio gear box.
Yamaha really needs this. There sales would go through the roof. No doubt
If they ever came out a yz300x that competed with the euro bike with Electric start...i would go straight to the dealer to place my order
Rado Rado Rado, when are you giving us a KTM 300/250 XC TBI review? Don’t worry about these Yz future bikes, we want to know what you think of the TBI bikes available now. Maybe do a 125xc while you are at it. Loved your previous YZ125x videos.
I would love to get my hands on one, but to do a good review I need to keep it for some time like I did with YZ125x.. not sure if that will be happening any time soon tho
#smh-ktm
They should make some engines that can also handle e85/straight alcohol fuel, it would be neat tech
Rumor is Yamaha will offer a factory big bore 300 kit for the YZ250X in '24.
Already Athena been on offer by dealers for a few years now.
The 300cc engine use pre-mix fuel or has separate lubrication system?
I have a wr300yz but no hydraulic clutch or electric start and it's a 2stroke.
Need a WR300R
Very good content,Rado! Spot on👏👍
Glad you liked it!
I’d love to graft a 300 2-stroke into my TW200…but I’d definitely have to put a new fork up front to get dual disc brakes, and that old drum in the rear would also need to be changed out for a disc! With a 28” inseam and a 74 year-old body, I just can’t hang off the side of the bike at every stop anymore, so the new bikes are out of the picture!
Counter balancer is the new fad, I remember when all the Gas Gas Legacy guys pulled the balancer out back when the 250 and 300 came with them💡
What was the reasoning for that?
@@rostifardian less reciprocated weight
Equal’s faster spin up & harder hit.
Love Fantic Bikes, but can’t get any of them near where I live. I have checked within a 300 mile radius, nothing!!
in 2011 some people in new zealand put fuel injection on a yz 250. there was a video on you tube about there bike.
Great coverage - thank you!
Once ESR racing gets his casting system running I'll be ordering a 325 kit for my yz.
Would love the e start etc but I'm not dropping $11 k on a KTM bike.
As far as I know, out of the box, the Fantic 125cc´s 2stroke is better than the YZ....
This 300 will be a blast for sure.
Cheers.
Fantics from what I've heard are just rebranded Yamahas with Italian boutique parts. Probably just the stock pipe being slightly worse on the Yamaha than whatever small batch in house pipe Fantic has.
Minus the fuel injection, I would buy a YZ 300X
i'm with you on this 100%
That motor appears to be cylinder reed induction. The Yamaha engine is obviously case reed induction, so what part of the engine is YZ based? It looks like a completely unique design vs. the current yamaha 2 stroke engine.
its based on yz250 engine.. but yeah, they did a lot of work
Great video I hope they move forward with this engine or fantic starts a distribution in the United States
YZ Electric start would be great!
And they said they would delete the option of a kick start back up. That's when he lost me. Fine on the track, but no further.
I love Keihin carburetor yz300X I'll buy it
I guess the pressure is on since KTM and the other Austrian brands are taking over the two stroke competition.
yea, would be good to see more from Japan as well
The kTM 300 is blowing up ..
@@dirtniron I really want to see Honda and Suzuki get back into 2 strokes since 2007-08. They would look so bitchen
That’s the new fantic engine
Fingers crossed 🤞🏾. If it lands in Australia 🇦🇺 I will buy one.
Are an abbo?
Or just really tan. Idk why I'm wondering
Yeah
Cool. Enjoy the bike.
Everyone BUT Yamaha wants an updated YZ250-300 that will compete with KTM XC/w
Obviously they just want to keep punching out clones for $$$ and don't care. That's why KTM has owned this sector of the market.
Owned and raced many YZ's but on a Katoom now.
Coming from a TPI 300 owner (which is a great engine, but soft off the bottom) I would love to ride one of these and see what difference it has in low down torque. The TPI is great, but has it's drawbacks.
Its supposed to be soft on the bottom. Soft = Traction in the nasty stuff!
Gas mileage is a big issue with me.i ride a cr500 and carry 2.5 gallons in a backpack.fuel injection gets like 30percent fuel mileage over catb
If they need a 300 2T with hydraulic clutch, adjustable power valve and Keihin carb… just buy a Beta 300RR race edition!
well, Beta is not reliable, problem will come and then you will go to TM because it is better than anything else and lighter also.
@@arnauddechamps855 I'd agree with that if TM only had chromoly steel frames. I know aluminum is cheaper but to make TM's better I'd want to see good steel frames.
@@arnauddechamps855 I’ve had zero mechanical issues with my 2016 beta 300 race edition. Pulled it apart at 50 hours and 100 hours, everything is still within factory spec.
Sorry but I hope Yamaha doesn't listen to a word you say. I want people to leave Yamaha alone and stop trying to push them to be a KTM clone. There are enough KTM clones already. If you want all the air fork, electric do dad's go get a KTM. But stop telling ever bike maker they gotta make bike the same as KTM.
Yeah nice .... now add + 200cc with that new counterbalance 500cc engine❤👁👃👁 yes PLEASE had me at YZ
th-cam.com/video/7NA0sddkSq0/w-d-xo.html
yeah 2-stroke with powervalve. 🙌👏
KTM group has taken MX to new heights. Invigorating other European brands. This is excellent. The Japanese brands are so far behind its ridiculous!
Is there already an update ? Do you know when they going to produce it ?
Yamaha are doing this as they are relaizing they are loosing bulk sales to the growing hard enduro market. It won't be long for Honda to follow suit too from what people have told me.
Curious to see what they can bring to the table vs the KTM 300 platform. As so far mine has been awesome and I'd never go back to a 4stroke trail bike ever again.
I have Minarelli AM5 50cc engine. And its amazing engine.
I am really very curious about this as it is supposed to be euro 5 compatible. The problem here in Europe it's impossible to ride these bikes on the street because of that fucking euro regulation. Euro 5 sounds impossible to me
Don't mean to be harsh but if it's Italian won't it grenade itself after the first ride, or thereabouts?
You would think so, but actually no. In fact, a bike mechanic friend of mine owned a Fantic for many years. (2010 model). As an experiment he decided to not wash the bike and did not wash air filter for 1 year. (and did no othe rmaintenance other than tighten the chain). The bike continued to work fine. Didn't even seem to be bothered by the dusty air filter. At the end of the year he pulled the air filter off and it was still clean inside the air boot. Anyway it's an interesting test - I wouldn't do it on my own bike, but proves they make reliable machines.
Sell the engine as recon. How much Would a engine only cost?. It could be put in a lot of stuff. We have megs and tigs and all the rest. How much would the 300 motor cost kiss the motor?
Yamaha hasn't even fixed the yzfx starting problems, what makes anyone believe they can start over and not have serious issues again?
A few minor things can be done to help the fx start. I race an fx here in Michigan and it’s not as bad as people say.
I have a 20 250fx. First thing I did was put an 8 cell antigravity battery in it. Doesn't have to be in neutral to start anymore.
@@Wayne83MI very true!
If u are referring to it starting hard in gear...its cuz the factory clutch plates drag. Take them out, soak in oil over night. Or lean the bike over its clutch side, rev the piss out of it while modulating the clutch.
I had 2020 250FX and got it fixed with ECU remapping.. it was starting much better after that, I believe Yamaha dealers offered that
Not difficult to understand your words even with the accent (English is my only language), but sometimes when you mention a brand or product I’ve never heard of before, I can’t understand. Just buy a Sherco it's already all of those things.

I think 150 and 300's should be the standard 2 stroke sizes in motocross. I want to them used on the pro level again :(

I think so too
Měj se Lukáš from CZ
nazdar Lukasi, vdaka ze podporu! Verim aj ja ze z tychto vztahov medzi hracmi sa vyprodukuje nieco zaijimave pre nas! drz sa
It will take estart and TBI and counter balance to compete with KTM. As well as 350F.
Six speed,six speed,six speed!
no 6 speed, hard pass. been a yz guy forever but they need a better tranny and upgrade the entire clutch system. went to sherco and never looked back.
I think YAMAHA is pretty good at building motors..Why do they need outside involvement ?
Too bad the manufacturers have abandoned California’s riders. Time for a big huge multi manufacturer lawsuit to stop the overreach.
It all boils down to the pencil pushers whether or not it gets officially made by Fantic aka Yamaha...
Personally I think leave perfection alone, just improve yourself instead!
And Fantic can't sell in the USA they would be competing with Yamaha directly that's their agreement.... I'd buy a Fantic YZ125 if I could and sell a Kidney for two! 2T only!
Brapppp
Hopefully Yamaha will never replace their engine with this... The beauty of YZ is its ultimate simplicity and reliability which will be surely lost with all that electronic shite -)))) Who needs another injected clone of ktm, there are plenty of them already 🤮

Not impressed! I'm giving FI bikes more time and development before I'm pulling the trigger on one. I don't like these catastrophic engine failures I'm seeing on the new KTM's. We are talking total engine replacement when these new FI KTM's let go. IMO KTM should not have released them without more durability testing. Stick my reliable carbed 2-stroke 300 KTM for now. Heck with the head and carb work on my carbed 300 I see zero need for TBI or FI and all the assorted issues you can have. That thing damn near idles up hill. I can't kill it.
I'm in that same boat.. I will stay with my 2018 carbed TE300. It's bullet proof.. the TPI motors are a non starter for me.
I don't think that starter would fit with a carb. The bowl would get in the way
