If you need to decide between Scholar and Sage, you won't have to decide for quite some time. Sage only becomes available when you get a job to level 60, if I remember correctly, plus some MSQ requirements that I'm quite sure lie some place into Heaven's Ward. To unlock Scholar you need to play the Arcanist to level 30 and reach an equivalent point in the ARR MSQ.
I'm not sure if someone mentioned this yet, but Regens don't generate aggro/enmity anymore. (This includes fairy heals and Kardia from Sage.) However, the BUFF you give to someone DOES generate aggro/enmity by at least 1-2 points. So if your tank isn't whacking anything in their drive by swording, then you probably will still get aggro from it.
I know I commented earlier about the ease of whitemage and how it's best for beginners, but i'll do my best to put it into WoW terms again. :D White Mage: Holy priest but more fun with more stuff to do. Scholar: Pre Legion Discpriest, lots of shields and prevent damages. Astrologian: ...doesn't have a wow equivalent... If White Mage ever feels boring, play an astro. It's my favorite healer because i'm always so engaged with the amount of stuff I need to track. :D Sage: Legion and beyond disc priest but easier. Instead of having to click back and forth between targets to give them Atonement, it's a buff, called Kardia, you just give the tank and it lasts till you toggle it to a different person.
Sch's my main job, having a sprint for the whole party can be really useful and being able to make shields that you can straight up just ignore mechanics with feels so nice. Welcome to 14 btw! Have fun on your jorney.
As a SCH main, I can tell you that they get the best skirts in the entire game. There are a lot of skirts in the game, but the really nice ones that SCH gets are exclusive to them. It also has one of the best healing abilities in the form of Excogitation. What this ability does is it is like a heal bomb that goes off when the player's health drops below 50%, so you can slap it on the tank and then DPS until you see it go off. It can also be used a big emergency heal if the player is already below 50% health. And they get a friggin fairy! While their ultimate ability (LB3) is not the flashiest out of the healers, it is by far the cutest animation in the game because the SCH and their fairy play together and then she sits in your hand at the end of it.
While the video is a teeny bit outdated (it was made before Endwalker launched and sage hadn't been released yet), it still more or less holds up. Best way I've found to describe sage is 1) what white mage mains always wanted scholar to be and 2) the closest thing to disc priest in WoW (their Kardia buff like Atonement but permanent and only affects one target). White mage is definitely the easiest healing job, both to get into and to play at most levels. Probably best not to get too used to playing Astrologian since they're getting overhauled for the expansion this summer.
Healers are great and fun to play once you get to the expansions, but in ARR with the dungeons having NPC companions now the role is kind of moot. Better to go with a Tank or DPS until you get to Heavensward.
I will disagree with JoCat on one thing. The skill for which you need sunglasses is the white mage's Holy that you spam against packs of mobs. The Astrologian puts on a good show, but it is more bearable visually.
@@LaccreVT And it gets more flashy as you level up. If it gets overwhelming, there are options to disable parts of the animations from other players. it helps a ton with readability 😉
Love White Mage, been my main for 8 years. easy to use with its lazy auto healing regens and has instant free heals to save MP for casting more damage spells so enemies die faster :D
White Mage is the probably the best to learn on. It's regen healing, and at higher levels for dungeons you get the only stun AoE in the game.

Scholar is my least favorite healer to play.....but it's Tonberry plot, so I gotta.
scholar looks interesting to me, but im most levelling summoner so will have it leveled at the same time, not sure i will play it end game tbh
