    I've discovered a handy tip to hide the little "circle" under the tufts. Mix up a dilute paint (like 1 part paint to 4 parts water) that matches the colour of the tuft and touch it with a brush to the root of the tufts. It will flood into the tuft's base and cover any white areas from the base glue.

      It's a great set. Army Painter makes some great products. See my comment above though about the stainless steel mixing balls. I use hematite beads (they're cheap and you can get them at any art/craft store.) Stainless steel (unless it's marine grade) has the potential to ruin your paints. Just fyi.
      Good luck with your decision.

    I have also had, like MANY hobby peeps, problems with yellow. I found Warcolours to be my answer to a “pure” yellow experience. They sell a yellow one-coat, a five layer slice (deep cadmium, cadmium, light cadmium, lemon, and cream), a transparent, an ink, and a glaze. Not the easiest to use if you only know the Citadel method, because they are very subtle hues and quite translucent, but if you are happy to build up glazes and wet-blend they give great results. Definitely worth experimenting with.

Tufts are really handy .I place them on small circular mdf's for casualty markers.I hate seeing counters on the table! Also quick way to do basing. Too right good basing makes a mediocrely painted figure look fine . Hey I am decades older than Naomi how come I am learning things from her?

    There is a trick to your green/yellow problem.
    To give credit where credit is due, it's actually from Kenny Boucher from Next Level Painting,
    Mix in a tiny tiny tiny bit red or orange into your yellow, it pulls the yellow completely away from any
    "bad green influence". It really works great.

    I really like their washes. Really great flow control so it goes into all the nooks and crannies.
    I do not like their shaped handles though. Brushes all have a characteristic of the bristles that makes certain orientations spread them apart while painting and others that help keep a sharp point. Without a round handle you can't twist and turn it precisely to take advantage of those things.
    What I really want to see from them is a base crust topping like AK's diorama cracked earth types of materials.

    Robart Paint Shaker - we can get most products in the UK but for some reason, never the Robart Paint Shaker - no idea why. The only way to get one, without visiting the US, is to import but then you have to pay really silly money (over $100). So we have to resort to Chinese nail polish shakers bought on ebay - you can buy at least five of these for what we would have to pay for a Robart shaker.

    I use army painter products. My experience is : The paints are less pigmented than the "base" range from citadel, they do need a "wash" brush range like citadel, their "monster" brush is way too small for proper monsters (Big tyranids and tanks are a pain), the red plastic exactocnife is too fragile for cuting big chunk of platic.
    I am actually using their paints for airbrushing, their brushes + a big wash and a big base brush from citadel, theirexactoknife, cutters, wet palette, tufts and painting station. But i still prefer the citadel paints range by far.

    Have you had good luck with the Army Painter mixing balls? No issues with them rusting & spoiling your paint? I was planning to transfer Citadel paints to eye droppers, but am hesitant because of anecdotal stories of steel mixing balls spoiling the paint over time.

      I've been using some stainless steel balls I got from Amazon a few years ago and I haven't had any problems. I think the key is to make sure that they are stainless steel; any other kind of steel will definitely rust in water based acrylic paints.

      Same as the above replies - no issues using AP mixing balls in AP, Citadel, Scale, Warcolours, or Vallejo Model Colour products. Over two years, took a few out with a magnet on a stick to inspect for oxidation. Zero. All good. Only problem I have encountered is that they are not heavy enough to mix some of the thicker VMC paint range. Have had to use the larger balls from Green Stuff World.

    Am looking to get the set of 50 like on this vid but my Brother wants to go with there larger set. The set here looks like it has a solid range of color with plenty of Diversity. What are your thoughts?

    • @swordnsteele712
      @swordnsteele712  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The more paints you have, the less you have to mix to get the colour you want :)
      This set has a great variety, a very good starting point for anyone getting into or filling out their paint inventory. It has bright primary and secondary colours so when you mix them, the resulting colours will still be quite bright. Its metals can be mixed together or with the other paints to get another variety of metal paints. It has only a few washes but they allow you to get accustomed to washes before you go and grab more :) It's a good set!
      But if you can afford a bigger variety, I personally prefer more variety than less. But that's because I like to be able to see a colour in my head and just grab it off the shelf, save time and get away with less mixing 😁

    • @peterdickinson4599

      Lots of companies out there produce starter sets. But unless you understand RYB colour theory, and are naturally proficient at mixing hues on a palette; three primaries, three secondaries, a black, a white, a gold, a silver, and fleshy brown are not going to be of much use to you. There is only one company out there that produces a true starter set and that is Army Painter’s Mega Box Set. The MBS will allow you to learn all the basics and paint a wide variety of models to a complete state. It is not cheap, but it is fantastic value as there is a year of learning and hobby productivity in there. And it also acts as a robust skeleton that you can flesh out with more AP paints, or pots and dropper bottles from other companies and gives you a baseline that you can compare them to. I’m not an AP shill, just giving you the benefit of my hindsight... :) might save you some grief.

    I'm sure you know this already.
    new brushes come with that stiffener on them and you have to use water to get it off but if you bend them before you take the stiffener off they'll take that shape.

  • @AeonVoom
    @AeonVoom 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great that they send you that all that cool stuff. I bought the Mega Paint set a couple years back and it turned out to be a mixed bag at best. The bright colours? They are like glazes at best, not even layering colours. I had only trouble with them, no matter how well i shaked them (balls and nail polish shaker). I really wish they would mark down the opacity rating of their paints like GW or Warcolours do. I'm right now phasing out a lot of those Army Painter colours and replace them with Vallejo, Scale75 or Warcolours ones. Their Washes are superb though and some select colours i gonna keep.
    But hey! Free stuff, right? - Glad your channel is taking off Naomi and they send you all that swag. heh.

    • @TheArmyPainter
      @TheArmyPainter 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry you've had a poor experience with our Warpaints. They are actually quite heavily pigmented, more so than "the other guys." Which is great, because when properly mixed (like all high quality soft bodied acrylics) they provide great coverage! If you haven't lost all faith yet, give our Mixing Balls a shot.

    • @AeonVoom
      @AeonVoom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheArmyPainter I have stainless steel ball bearings in all my dropper bottles. And i use a paint shaker. I am not saying all your paints are bad. there is a huge list of colours that i will continue to use. Like Monster and Leather Brown, Goblin Green and Green Skin, Shining Silver, Plate Mail Metal and Gun Metal to name a few. As well as the entire Wash range. I know that some colors are just plain difficult (or are percieved as such) and require some undercoating. But especially with Daemonic Yellow, Mythical Orange, Lava Orange and Pure Red as well as Alien Purple and Deep Blue in particular i have had nothing but issues. There the competition (namely Warcolours and Vallejo) gave me much better results.
      I'm not a brand fanboy. Just a customer who uses what works.
      But to be frank: There are colors from Vallejo, Scale75, Warcolours or Games Workshop that i also stopped using after testing them. So don't think i singled you out. That was not my intend.
