    Though, there should be a big, important note: the artis opus technique of dampening the bristles slightly as you work IS required for this to work well - and to preserve the brush. You don't have to use their damping pad or anything, it's just a bit of foam. But you do need to avoid the paint drying out on the kind of natural fiber that's being used in these brushes. FYI, the dry brushes sold by games workshop use camel hair. It can survive dried out paint and be restored with a solvent based cleaner. You do not want to do that with the artis opus or army painter dry brushes. They use goat hair, and you must treat it better.
    We're used to thinking of dry brushing as a harsh technique, that is expected to destroy brushes quickly. That isn't necessarily the case. A brush like one of these can last a long time and remain effective.

    For anyone wondering how different these are from Artis opus series D brushes as someone who has both of them the answer is: Not that much different. I would highly recommend you to get a dampening pad for using either one set because the dampening pad method is just leaps and bounds better than the more common use for drybrushing because it thins the paint without being too wet for drybrushing.
    The artis opus brushes last A LOT longer in use and the way they wear out is different where they just kinda get shorter rather than thinner so you can keep using them for quite a long time,like I'm nowhere near the point where I'd have to replace any of them. On the other hand the army painter ones wear out quite quickly but then again when the entire set costs about as much as a single Artis opus series D brush simply buying a new set is perfectly fine.
    Also one rather weird thing the army painter ones have going for them is the fact that because they are so cheap you end up using them way more often since you really don't care if you mess them up or not. So basically I use the army painter ones when I'm painting smaller models or several larger ones at the same time and I use the nicer Artis Opus brushes when I'm painting individual models like heroes or some special units where I've only got like couple of them.

    The best use for those brushes is to use only in one direction, i mean not paint back and forth but only in one direction, with a lot of attention and quite zero pression on it. I have those brushes and i have to say they are the state of art for (only) drybrushing. Just pay a lot of attention when you wash the brush itself at any change of color, because they are very full of bristles and the color tend to hid and dry too easily. A hug and a thanx for your video. Nice done! Keep it up! ☺️🤙👍
    P. S. Sorry for my poor english but it is not my native language.... Cheers from Italy 🇮🇹 ☺️

    I ore-ordered them from troll trader and got them 2 days before release day. They are FANTASTIC. Best drybrush I have ever used. Everyone should have them and they're very cheap. The only other company making anything like it is Artis opus for 6 - 7 times the price. Go ahead and buy it people, I am never going back to flat drybrushes, ever.

      I mean, flat brushes still have their place (they are good for basecoating larger surfaces), but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if more companies started following suit with their own "domed round" dry brushes.

    • @cartouchator

      They are very different from makeup brushes. I have used both and nothing like it at all. The bristles are much more durable and hold paint a lot better than makeup brushes, and the bristle travel distance is a lot smaller so much easier in cramped places, and somehow the bristles find raised edges a lot better. They're also much stiffer.

    • @ArynCrinn

      @EmceeDoctorB I have never used Army Painter brushes mostly for that reason, but I do believe their "Masterclass" brushes are supposed to be better quality than their regular brushes. Their Masterclass brush is more expensive than most Citadel Paint Brushes (which are way overpriced).
      I have doubts that the AO Series D brushes are worth being 3-4 times more expensive than these, but I'll still probably pick up the XL Series D to supplement these.

    I have always had problems with most types of white paint because it has a gritty texture. I think the pigment is titanium oxide which maybe can't be ground up as fine as other pigments for some reason.

    • @ArynCrinn
      @ArynCrinn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Warhammer Community said something about the white pigment being the largest in an article on "the science of paint."
      Personally, I'd use more of a heavy body white for drybrushing, like Scalecolor Artist or Schmincke Primacryl. When I need to layer or edge highlight, I'd mix in some acrylic white ink.

    • @swordnsteele712
      @swordnsteele712  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can get drybrushes wet. You'll just want to let them dry out before using them again, which takes maybe 20-30min, probably less time for hotter, drier places than here 😄
      Or, as I did in some cases, just use paint after paint after paint without cleaning them out, which also allows for an easier blend between colours. The drybrushing itself works well to remove each paint as you work. But you do have to move quick so whatever paint in the brush may thicken in the brush, but won't harden.
      Vallejo brush cleaner can clean it out if it happens to harden, particularly within the couple of hours of you using it.
