@@vescero3892 It's still up in the air whether the skill works unarmed. The skill text describes 'dealing weapon damage in an area', but there's no mention of weapon types at all. Most melee skills will have a list like: 'Requires an axe, mace, sceptre, staff, or unarmed.' -Earthquake. This list is absent from the crushing fist gem entirely. The gem's info was just released, so it may be updated before launch if someone points this oversight out.
A few notes for anyone else theorycrafting: 1. Impale is probably not the way to go if you are building around retaliation skills. You won't be attacking fast enough to get much benefit from impale. Most mobs should be dead in 1 hit anyways. 2. The 'Bastion Breaker' node got buffed. You would likely path by it anyways. For 4 points, you can take this node and its mastery to get 100% chance to bypass enemy physical damage reduction with hits. Spend some of the points you made up from dropping impale to grab this. 3. Crushing fist had its gem info released, but the wording makes it unclear if it can be used unarmed or not. Glacial shield swipe definitely can be used unarmed, but is meant as a crowd control skill not a damaging skill (only 100% damage effectiveness compared to crushing fist's >1000% at lvl 20). 4. Even if you want to go unarmed early, since facebreakers will likely be cheap throughout the league, you will probably want to swap to using a weapon of some sort instead of investing in the Rigwald amulet. Losing both the amulet slot and gloves slot to uniques is probably not worth it. The skill should be able to do good damage either way (unarmed or with a weapon), and you can get better stats out of rares as you progress. 5. Another benefit of using a rare amulet instead of Rigwald's is that your anoint opens up for the new 'No Forgiveness' node. This gives 20% chance for retaliation skills' usage to not be consumed. With the ascendancy, you can get a total 70%. 6. Combo this with up to 35% chance from the passive tree for using retaliation skills to grant a use of other retaliation skills. You should have pretty constant uptime for retaliation skills once you can trigger the first one if you run 3 retaliation skills. I'm a big fan of the new retaliation warcry. Free exerts to re-enable and buff the build's massive slams? Yes please! 7. The node 'Swagger' is usable for shield characters. You won't benefit from the dual wield block chance, but you still get the chance to gain frenzy charge on block. For only 2 passive points, you get frenzy charge sustain on bosses. Blood rage is inconsistent, but good during map clear, so still worth using imo. 8. The base area on crushing fist is greater than righteous fire (2.8m > 2.3m both at lvl 20). Using supports like fist of war, pulverise, and increased aoe should greatly improve clear. You can also grab the 'Indiscriminate Revenge' cluster for 60% aoe for retaliation skills. This cluster is one of the most efficient pure aoe scaling clusters on the entire passive tree. Good luck to anyone else trying to league-start a retaliation build. Remember: respec-ing into a bleed gladiator instead is always a possibility.
Hey, jorgen. I've got a few notes. I dont know if anyone has mentioned these things, but i thought you should know: The new retaliation skills are not triggered they need to be casted. Steel rings are a MUST on facebreaker builds. I think you will be spellblock capped without tempest shield thanks to versatile combatant. Consider running fist of war to boost damage and coverage on your retaliation skill. Finally, it's very likely that you'll need to stop channeling cyclone to be able to press your retaliation skill. Notes over. Thanks for the guides, you filthy exile!
Looking forward to see you try this one live. My first thought was to do something with crushing fist, but like you, I went with shield crush to begin with.
crushing fist is a slam, so you can exert it. Put 3 warcries on your auto exert (or 5 and just do a 4-link for damage) with the new warcry/slam support it will be like a 46% more multiplier.
If Crushing Fists is the same as the other previewed retaliations, it will have a 3 to 5 second cooldown, so i don't know how viable it will be as a main damage source. On the other hand the other skills also have massive damage multipliers (i think one has 650% al lvl1) so i think it will be amazing has a supplement to another normal damage skill. On a side note, the description specificaly says it SLAMs a Fist, so i think Fist of War might actually work with it, if so the damage should be amazing.
The data was released today. It has the slam tag! And 2193% of base damage! LFG! The base cooldown is 4 sec. I have a different passive tree than the video which picks up 77% cdr for retaliation skills. With 88% more cooldown recovery from a 20 quality expert retaliation support, the cooldown gets down to 1.63 seconds before gear is considered. Also, you can bypass the cooldown. You can get 70% total chance to not consume the skill's use and 35% chance to grant a use when using another (different) retaliation skill. If you run crushing fist, glacial shield swipe, and vengeful cry you should have near 100% uptime on retaliation skills once the first one becomes usable per zone.

Your cyclone gonna have negative movement speed, your crushing fist only deal 4m damage snice you not gonna have all the impale stacks with crushing fist and not to say you only have 95% hit chance.
early days. Could also use lacerate instead of cyclone as well
If we switch the boots to spore guard, that fixes the movement speed issue as well
Retaliation skills dont work like reckoning did, you have to press the skill.
Wouldn't matter, would skill dish out some hurt.
@@JorgenPOE That was specifically to when you said the build could play itself and walk away to get a coffee during simulacrum.
Im gonna try the old max block bleed EQ glad, with retal as a supplement in lieu of totems.
@@JorgenPOEDPS is bait, because you're not getting 3 Procs per sec
ok so first of all change the config so its not completely boosted then you will get accurate numbers
This is a theory craft, chill brah. I'm currently building this build as a second build it it hits waaaay harder than anything in this POB currently. I'll do an update later today around it but it's pretty awesome.
@@JorgenPOE ok im ngl i have been trying to get it to work with phys but its so hard with block cuz one handed has such a low weapon damage so I'm super excited to see what you gonna make
@@ALLMIGHTYPATATA that's why I did face breakers, no weapon needed. Just the surrender 😁
I think life on block was removed from the game and from the Surrender.
Not according to the patch notes. Would still work on a 6 link setup if there is a change to the surrender
Nothing on patch notes that it affects the surrender. And shaper recover x% life on block is still a thing
*I was in an area with bad reception and video was buffering. I see you addressed this in your video* poewiki reads crushing fist requires a melee weapon
I hope this works. I've been theorycrafting a reckoning glad for several leagues now and was disappointed when it was removed and read the poewiki description of crushing fist.
poe wiki is wrong. I considered that, but it's not consistent with the patch notes. The wiki is pulling from a skill database and its not up to date yet from what i could see.
