You've not discussed the Retalation keystone that changes the activation condition to taking 6 hits (Arsenal of Vengeance). That enables (non-staff) two-handed weapons with Crushing Fist.
I see good synergy with Crushing Fist and Impaler node. You make 1 big hit and release all impales with any other fast hitting skill. I still haven't figured out under what circumstances it makes sense to take Arsenal of Vengeance, because it's not difficult at all to get a block chance higher than 16%.
Retaliation skills are nice because if they are no good, you just drop the skill and respec a few things and voila...you have a really solid bleed/block build
Most builds will just slap them on with maybe 1 or 2 support gems and use them for rares/uniques to nuke them from orbit alongside a powerful main skill.
really sounds cool, would love to see a fully decked pob with that. i can imagine it can deal crazy damage. potentially game braking, like doing ubers in a few sec with sub par gear
I fully expect vengeful cry to be changed to enemy hits only, but if not I'm using it on my rage vortex starter, hitting myself with forbidden rite at 62% chaos res, it literally doubles my dps from 30 to 60mil
My second build may be a retaliation character with pyroclast mines of sabotage giving me disgusting levels of flat damage. Or maybe strength stack bls
What I was thinking of is doing a chieftain or berserker version using the keystone to trigger crushing fist every 6 hits. Hitting for weapon damage with 2200% effective damage and its also a slam - which should work with chieftains tukohama war herald for a free 7 link. Whilst spamming this as often as possible to trigger vengeful cry to maintain perma rage 90+ rage for even more damage. With all the buff effect, warcry duration and infinite warcry power I can see this kind of working. Abuse the new ring to get the mark from affliction that summons small minions on enemy hit for bosses. This way you should be getting hit more often to trigger the crushing fist more reliably on single target enemies.
That keystone will likely be quite good with Penance Mark, and I think it will be fine w/o for general mapping but without Penance on some boss arenas/slow mobs etc. might be a bit awkward

You could do that yeah, cyclone seems like a pretty good clear skill for retaliate builds, but I don't think you need any automated warcry setup for taunting as the enemies will already be chasing you down

I'm personally interested in Eviscerate Bleed, but for any of them what sort of strange influence mods or crafting options would you look towards? I note that Crushing Fist with Doryani's Fist is hilarious damage, as well as any high flat base damage weapon(made harder by not having access to two-handed weapons). ...Energy blade.
So here's the rub: unless you want to put a retaliation skill in the chest, the only place to put these things is in a shaper/elder helmet, and those helmets are usually attuned for cold damage. And of course, the cold damage retaliation skill screws over bleeding (because of course it does). One last idea is...Squire. It allows you to play a retaliation 6L with an actual skill in the chest. But overall, the thing that kind of puts these on the fritz in PoE1 is that gladiators only have a single 6L to work with under most circumstances. Beyond that, you'd have to maximize block and spell block chance with a staff to have 2 6Ls.
honestly i feel with retaliation u just play for all the cooldown recovery and use it as ur 6 link main skill sure it has a condition and cooldown but glad can get up to 70% chance to skip both of that ever time u use it and 35% if u use ur vengeful cry which then can become usable again and is another 35% to make it usable again ... like just eviscerate and vengeful cry with the glad ascendency and retaliation mods will give u alot of uptime on them u can probably easily use 1-2 every second just gotta make it clear the whole damn screen.

@@Ilyak1986 a few ways to prevent that penance mark can spawn enemies now for stuff u can block and breach gem can help u out in some situations aswell but more importantly just dont put urself in a situation like that. with a build like this just dont do content u know u wont be able to get blocks in a map u will basicly always get a random block from somewhere and then u can cast ur skills on average 3-4 times. i feel in PoE alot of people are scared of conditions but we already know % life on block is insane and other similar on block effects too i doubt u gonna struggle getting these skills up
Might respec a standard character into retaliation skills first to see what the playstyle feels like before dedicating time to building a proper character. Could be a fun way to do very high density maps on a block character.
I've made counter attack builds previous leagues. The idea was pretty cool but doing actual damage without the counter attacks procing was the hard part

Hey just wondering if Retaliation skills work with Fatal Flourish (it is the duelist forbidden Jewel note) it doesnt work with Multistrike GGG changed Multistrike to not support it, but fatal Flourish does a similar effect so I think it could work and give you twice the chance for the resets also dmg would be really high
One thing that sucks about retaliation skills and that all the passive nodes from then seem completely dog unless you plan to use it as your main skill.
Ill be using the fist in my armor on a chieftain, for some burst and ignite damage. Even with the 60 less ailment damage, it should be insane and lasting for 7 second minimum to however long i want since ill be crit cycloning to refresh the ignite duration. I don't know how well proliferation works but, could you ignite an entire map with one crushing fist while cycloning through it, will be interesting.
I was already looking at an afk bosser that can stand still and just spam retaliation skills sometime this league. More hyped for these skills than the melee rework honestly.

I got a Spell Gladiator Divine Retribution Build Cooking 30k phys max hit and 70k Ele Hit. 96 block/Spell 1.2k Recovery.100k armor. EHP (even tho it dont matter) 5.4 mill. I plan on Only using Retal Skill cause im not a zoomer player. Using Herald of thunder with alot of herald buff effect for clear. I just hope they live up to the Hype!
@@dreamcore_gg So Lightning Conduit of the heavens is basicaly this spell but more spread out hits. Where This retal skill when you closely look at the replay in slow mo looks pretty dense. LCoH is 4m radius where Retal skill is 1.6 I added 60% area increased from the retal wheel on the outside. And with minimal Investment im THINKING.. up to 6 hits per wave. so 6 hits x 4 waves could be some really fun damage. I might run a 4 link ball of orbiting just incase but im trying to not have anything else. As for the damage numbers I dont know exact numbers exactly. I dont exactly know what to custom mod in the config for more dmg but if anything like LCotH with better numbers it will absolutly pump. In the end When I build a char around a theme or arch type i stick making it purely about that. (aka not using Herald of purity even tho its better im sure cause of the flat phys)

Well, the issue is that every use of a Retaliation skill (by default) requires its own trigger. So if a Warden with GSS blocks, activates it, and uses it, yes, they'll freeze everything in the area... but they can't perma-freeze unless they can somehow make GSS usable again.
I think 6 enemy attacks is incredibly awkward - some boss arenas, some slow hitting mobs etc. will be painful, but general mapping will probably be fine. However, it might be quite servicable with Penance Mark ring

Why would you use multiple Retaliation skills in the utility setup to reset Eviscerate? From the wording on Prepared Response ("a different Retaliation Skill") I'd think only one of the other Retaliation skills would become usable. By playing multiple you dilute the pool lowering your chance to reset Eviscerate. Am I missing something?
Gladiator will have a long useable duration, so when your main ability inevitably goes on cooldown, you have a lot more 'chances' to reset the main skill - It does dilute the pool, but with expert retaliation linked you can essentially burn through retals until it resets the main skill
You need to activate them yourself, but you can possibly support vengeful cry with autoexertion(this would mean you don't gain the buff, but it auto-procs for the purpose of proccing other retals to be usable)

in my opinion it's a huge bait. Even in Last Epoch wich is way slower gamestyle, you don't have that much button to press. You can find a way to trigger them, like the new unique shield but it's a lot of investment.This said i'm a QoL guy more than a damage seeker.
it seems that Goratha might league start with this but together with secondary skill for clearing mobs, ofcourse. some people might try them too. who knows, we'll see
if you have around 60% chaos res and cast forbidden rite, you will take around 16% of life as damage. You can link this with battlemage cry so that every time you use battlemage cry the next attack will hit you with forbidden rite, allowing you to vengful cry. Any reason why this wouldnt work?
@@dreamcore_gg thats true, might need to run a little less chaos resistance if you have fortify. since you will be using battlemage cry anyway, might as well attach some others things to it like a curse and wave of conviction. that way you dont cast forbidden rite every attack and hit yourself all the time

Excusemetheshitisthis?... but yeah penance brand might be a mandatory item on retaliators, you could even just take the scratch damage and get the new notable, very certainly getting this on my gladiator, but I'll take the bleed slash, the slammer will get the fist.
You can automate vengeful cry coz it is a warcry to automatically proc your main retaliation skill. That with 90 block chance should be enough. There will also be an unique for retaliation skills for sure. Maybe the missing 30%?
on poe planner the retaliation anointment is named king of the hill "20% chance for used retaliation skills to remain usable and not consume a cooldown on use" and gives the same as no forgiveness shown in this video, but has a different anoint combination. is one of these wrong, outdated are there 2 separate anoints?
King of the hill was just an inherited name from the node of the same name(ranger inc. crit bow node) when the first update to PoB, poe planner and path of pathing happened. It was also in PoB, but it's now updated
its trying to make poeple play a secondary skill which always fails. Might be niece unsable due to some power and it beeing very flavourfull but it having 5 wheels on the passive tree is absolutly insane and a waste of space.

swordstorm will be crazy with a dual strike of ambidexterity build, get the warcry one for easy rage generation, and the fist one just for fun haha

I can also see a spike in usage for doedres elixir. Sustains charges and allows for some unique combos that usualy require you to be hit by something.
Berserker`s Defy pain also works for that

But allows you to use it every six normal attacks with the mastery.
Vaal breach is your friend here. Probably mandatory if you want your Retaliation build to do certain bosses.
@@phrazz Honestly, probably just use a normal attack setup and use retaliation as supplementary damage. Gonna be miserable otherwise until you get your hands on a Vaal Breach (my beloved).
Why would you use multiple Retaliation skills in the utility setup to reset Eviscerate? From the wording on Prepared Response ("a different Retaliation Skill") I'd think only one of the other Retaliation skills would become usable. By playing multiple you dilute the pool lowering your chance to reset Eviscerate. Am I missing something?
Gladiator will have a long useable duration, so when your main ability inevitably goes on cooldown, you have a lot more 'chances' to reset the main skill - It does dilute the pool, but with expert retaliation linked you can essentially burn through retals until it resets the main skill
I think you can use the new Svalinn shield to trigger Divine Retribution. Someone told me that wouldn't work, can you confirm one way or the other?
Can't confirm, it may be the case that you need to block first to make the skill usable then block again while it's useable to trigger it
do they get used automatically with some support or do you have to activate all of them yourself in time window?
You need to activate them yourself, but you can possibly support vengeful cry with autoexertion(this would mean you don't gain the buff, but it auto-procs for the purpose of proccing other retals to be usable)
Do you think you can use a retaliation skill with Unleash, at least the Spell one... Cause no where they say you can't
Unleash cannot support skills with cooldowns, and there is only one spell retaliation

in my opinion it's a huge bait. Even in Last Epoch wich is way slower gamestyle, you don't have that much button to press. You can find a way to trigger them, like the new unique shield but it's a lot of investment.This said i'm a QoL guy more than a damage seeker.

Just have a shield and use it unlinked it deals the game of a 8 link skill once in a while
if you have around 60% chaos res and cast forbidden rite, you will take around 16% of life as damage. You can link this with battlemage cry so that every time you use battlemage cry the next attack will hit you with forbidden rite, allowing you to vengful cry. Any reason why this wouldnt work?
Should work as long as you have no other mitigation (fortify etc.)
@@dreamcore_gg thats true, might need to run a little less chaos resistance if you have fortify. since you will be using battlemage cry anyway, might as well attach some others things to it like a curse and wave of conviction. that way you dont cast forbidden rite every attack and hit yourself all the time

You can automate vengeful cry coz it is a warcry to automatically proc your main retaliation skill. That with 90 block chance should be enough. There will also be an unique for retaliation skills for sure. Maybe the missing 30%?

on poe planner the retaliation anointment is named king of the hill "20% chance for used retaliation skills to remain usable and not consume a cooldown on use" and gives the same as no forgiveness shown in this video, but has a different anoint combination. is one of these wrong, outdated are there 2 separate anoints?
King of the hill was just an inherited name from the node of the same name(ranger inc. crit bow node) when the first update to PoB, poe planner and path of pathing happened. It was also in PoB, but it's now updated

its trying to make poeple play a secondary skill which always fails. Might be niece unsable due to some power and it beeing very flavourfull but it having 5 wheels on the passive tree is absolutly insane and a waste of space.
Can we use the surrender shield to trigger free reckoning skill ? Will that be a significant damage boost ?
The reckoning skill has been changed to crushing fist, but only on existing copies of the item in standard league. New items won't have the skill
