    despite the terrible service motion, he has quite decent first serves, proving that however wrong is the technique, enough repetition could always make anything work 😅

      Yeah for sure, a lot of people don't have very conventional forms but they are still crazy good

    I love watching your videos, your opponent had a short compact motion but he got a surprising amount of power on his groundstrokes. It is so fun to watch this level of tennis and I don’t know why. Thank you for making amazing videos and I am exited to see you progress in each match you play. Much love ❤

    Great win with thorough analysis. I completely agree with your thoughts about your forehand and needing to step into the ball. Frequently you are pushed off balance and swing falling backwards while pulling your shoulders back-which has nothing to do with your grip. This might point to preparation problems (feet balanced and ready) before the swing starts. Maybe consider anything that could strengthen your foot speed (I like to jump rope). To increase forehand topspin/power/depth of shot, I take a hopper of balls and simply work on stepping into every forehand without any feed. That way, I must generate all of the power. Great match!

    New fan of the channel, great footage, you get a great sense of the match. As an extreme western grip user I’ve found it’s great for flicking the racket up for spin but hard to snap it forward to get the ball through the court. Against slow hitters I always struggled hit the ball hard enough to it past them. It’s gotten better now that I moved my grip so I can get my knuckles on the opposite side of the racket from the ball, between about 6 and 5 o’clock on the grip

    Great win Kevin, HNY to you! Saw a bit more net play and noticed you need to be stepping forward into your shots. Keep up the good work!

    Will I get to UTR 9 at least in 2025? (My UTR dropped by .5 since I started this journey lol)

      You can do it bro I’m a 9.2 used to be 10 UTR and at my level all you have to do to get to a 9 is make balls with some variation that’s it just master returns and ground strokes and your good to get 9 UTR

  • @TDTheTruth

    Well played Kevin
    Kyle would get 1 UTR point easily if he improved his serve, his technique leaves a lot to be desired

    Don't worry about pushing. No one plays at their best throughout the full match. Even at the pro level, sometimes they have to push until they get their rhythm back.

    I'm calling it: With that win you are nolonger "other Kevin". That title belongs to PNW Samamish (Woodenville) Kevin.
    I can't wait for the, "Who is KING KEVIN challenge match."

      I definitely don't want to be known as other Kevin tho so going to train a lot :)

    I'm incredibly impressed with your win!! I feel that your defense and general consistency won you the match. Kyle has some scary shots, though, for sure!
    It seemed to me that Kyle was a bit vulnerable to some short shots when they stayed low just because of his weird forehand technique.
    As for your forehand, it seems to me that it's not so much you needing to step into the ball more as much as it is sometimes taking the ball late. When you have to take your racquet up and behind your head that proves to me you were late on the shot. Of course Kyle's powerful shots were a big cause some of that.
    Overall I wonder if Kyle normally makes so many errors? I think your consistency and defense exposed the fact he was taking too many risks against you. Tennis is ultimately a game of balancing Risk vs Consistency...
    Anyway, great win!

      Thank you! I think this may have been an off day on his end, from the recording it seemed like he was at first struggling with the ball bounce a bit and he expected it to bounce more on some shots.

      Thank you! I try to get out and play three times a week, recently (before holidays) i was playing up to 5 when weather is good. It ends up being like 5-8 hrs probably on a good week. Some weeks I only get out once so it’ll be like 2

    You're not really a USTA 4.5 anymore IMO, I would say closer to 5.0. You would probably lose very few singles matches in a 4.5 league

    • @escgoogle3865
      @escgoogle3865 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      On the high end of 4.5 singles for sure. Doubles...... 🙄.

      @kvnliang  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha thank you! I think consistency is a big issue for me, sometimes I play a great match and other days my level falls off a cliff. Definitely still have a lot of work to do on many fronts (such as net game), so just going to play a lot of tennis until I get better and can confidently be in the 5.0 range :)

      in all seriousness results wise yeah but on paper nope. hassaan lost to players i beat later in the season

    • @Dasato123
      @Dasato123 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@kvnliangthat actually makes the loss to Hassan worse. I think the real problem with the Hassan match was how discombobulated you looked in that match. I’d love to see a rematch. Was it just a bad day for you or were Hassan’s low slow balls really the difference? Low and slow is said to be the Achilles Heel of a full Western grip.
      You should see if you can push the envelope on your 2H backhand, it’s a good looking stroke.

    • @kvnliang
      @kvnliang  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Dasato123 I wouldn't look at it that way, Hassaan was definitely a really challenging opponent for me and I wasn't prepared and patient enough to deal with his shots.
      For others, their games may be more suited to handle his style while having more trouble with mine. I'd be lying to myself if a "bad day" was all it was. I just need to get a lot better, that's all :)

    USTA 4.5 is like a 8 UTR? if he was 10 UTR, he should've beat you like 6-3 6-2

    • @kvnliang
      @kvnliang  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      His peak UTR was 11 when he was more actively playing and he was a 10 beginning of the flex league but that was his estimated UTR based on his not so recent results.
      IIRC he hasn't done USTA so he isn't 4.5 or 5.0 atm. But yeah generally 4.5s in our region go from 7-8, some 9s and even some 10s in sectionals.
      Honestly I think if he was on, just based on how the points felt, I think your score sounds about right lol, but who knows. Definitely want to play him again sometime and I'll have to practice a lot for it.
