Kirtankars from Maharashtra have been travelling performers spreading awareness about social reforms, about literacy, about mythology and culture through their group singing bhajans and and Sant Tukaram kirtans.
Syed Jalal Maharaj of Nasik and Alandi is one such noble soul, who was introduced to Mr. Ramprasad Akkisetti and Prof. Christopher Benninger at Sunny's World a few years back at a Kirtan Sabha. Enthralled by his kirtans, they requested him to come to India House for a performance during the Diwali season. The courtyard of India House in Balewadi, Pune hosted this melodious kirtan sabha at 7pm, on Wednesday the 1st of November 2023.
