Athelstan wasn't being influenced by love, he was being influenced by shame. He was tricked into a relationship and then told he had to atone for his sinfulness. I think that makes it even more tragic.
I hope every casting director watches this show/movie and give Alexander Dreymond the roles he deserves. Utred is one of those characters you really connect with and Alex brought so much passion to playing him. He deserves all the flowers!
@@awesomness36 yes i know you eider butcher od a mean but they were called good kings for a reason if they murdered on scale like in this movie they would be called cruel
Though I wish we could have had a season 6 instead as this movie felt very rushed, it was an absolutely beautiful end to Uhtred’s tale. This series will forever have my heart.
I love how the ending had Uhtred still stuck in the middle to make an impossible choice as he has people he loves on both sides. The epitome of Uhtred’s story from begging to end. Impossible decisions and stuck having to make one. Destiny is all.
Great point. To be even more specific, you could argue even that ending was sort of a choice between Saxon or Dane, like the entirety of the show (I'm sort of reaching here, but I wanted to mention it, hear me out). To lead and live amongst his family and friends in a Saxon Kingdom, or to finally join the Danes in Valhalla. Gotta say, I love a full circle moment in shows/movies. I personally think he dies there, you don't show Valhalla and all the emotions that come with it if it's not the end for Uhtred; either way, it's a perfect way for him to go.
@@iTwistyz The title is literally 7 Kings Must Die though. 1. Edward 2. 5 kings (sons on the battlefield even though they weren't technically kings) 3. Uthred (regarded as king to the 5 kings during the king meeting at night. Same story with the 5 kings sons, not technically king but they could have been. Uthred also could have been king of Northumbria) I also think he might have been holding onto a dagger in his clothes at the end or something
I cried like a baby at the ending. There’s something about following a great story and show for years from start to finish that often gets some tears flowing - To all the souls whose good deeds were never written for future generations to see
Even in allowing his kingdom (the last kingdom) to become the final puzzle piece which creates one England, Utred makes sure to insist upon a condition which allows Aethelstan to live a life that is true to himself (you must never marry). It's brilliant writing. Utred's final act is as selfless as all which came before.
It was also a neat way to tie it into actual history, since the real Aethelstan never did marry or have children, and did eventually pass the throne to his half brother Edmund.
@@ems7448 eh.? This show is an abomination to real history.. What Wessex achieved was miraculous..But the show has them being divering idiots relying on a fictional Uthred who wasn't even alive in these days... Great show though...
@@michyn4959 it's because he understood that Aethelstan while a great king still had the capacity to do evil things just like his father and grandfather before him/ he understood that it's impossible to be a good king and a good man hence why Uhtred never once dared to claim the title of King, Uhtred himself has done his fair share of bad things but that was the product of Youth whereas in his old age all he wanted was to do good.
The Battle of Brunanburh is one of the bloodiest battles in England’s history and it’s only really just being found where it took place. The Wirral is close to where I live in Liverpool so I might try and visit the battlefield. I’m also going to try and go to Bamburgh castle in the summer for TLK tours. English history is great
@@ryanmurphy7976 Cornwell, who wrote the novels, has visited the battle site and they gave him a dagger they found dated to the early 10th century (so around the right time) and he has it in his house.
The history in this series is really really bad. But the script is really really good! I truly enjoyed this film and thought it capped everything off well
One of the best shows ever made on TV. The emotions it makes you feel the love for the characters. Very few shows make you feel something and this show does.
I would have loved another season vs the movie, but they did a masterful job of bringing ALL the feels to this movie. Thanks to y'all for bringing love to this ridiculously UNDERRATED show. ❤️❤️
It's a great show. But it's not rated highly by all because of how they treated the Wessex kings.. and changed historical characters. Changing their history to rely on Uthred.. When in reality what they achieved was miraculous..And did it without Uthred.. Also the way the show treated Edward was disgusting.. He was a great king.. Im actually from Somerset in where part of Wessex use to be.. And so here we all learn the real history in our schools.. Still it's far more accurate than Vikings.
@@markmorris7123 You learned nothing from the series. Warriors who died for their kings weren't honored greatly. The same way that it's treated as Uhtread not being recorded into the battles. News flash, the great "miraculous achievements" were done by the soldiers, not the kings.
I spent most of this movie pissed off at Aethlestan and in shock of what was happening 😶 It was so intense and the ending was gut wrenching with Uhtred having to decide whether to go to the great Hall or stay with his crew 😢 Need to watch it again to take it all in. Loved the reaction guys!
The ending was absolutely amazing! I love how they made the choice up to us if he died or not. The end where he was standing between the both worlds was such a good moment👌🏼 personally I do think he end up dying of his wounds but my god this show is my number 1
Not just our choice but his choice too. After 5 seasons of him being in the middle of every conflict be it personal or global. 1 final big decision for him to make
While the books ending were slightly different, this was still good. Uthred survives in the books, growing to old age. In the books, HE is the narrator and constantly makes references to his imminent death due to old age, making him carry his sword everywhere. Also, I bawled my eyes out when the final battle began and right till the end.
"growing to old age" my guy by this point in the story Uhtred,Finan and Sihtric WERE OLD. they were pushing 80 that is why the younger warriors where able to get the drop on Uhtred and able to take his sword and how he was getting slashed to hell in the final battle. Uhtred was not a young man anymore he's only able to still keep up because even at that age he was still in great shape and had a great style of living. age still slows you down regardless of how fit you are.
well also in the movie, they don't really show him dead, but really on the verge of death. I think it was more of him struggling to decide to keep fighting to stay alive and help his friends, or finally die and join his friends and family in the after life.
I was in TLK (S.2) and I'm also a fan of the show. Alex Dreymon and Mark Rowley are not just great actors, they are genuinely nice people too. They were great with us extras. I even got a hug from Alex when we first met him.
@@brayerkh Chasing Alex, Mark and Gerard (Halig) down the beach with the dogs. I was also in the scene where Uhtred is Rescued by Young Ragnar but Ive looked and cant see myself in that. Was a memorable day.
@@Mythical.History Not on screen but I assume he did as Sverri (Head Slaver) was killed by Finan. We actually filmed that scene the day before the beach scenes and as "slavers" were not involved. In fact, I was dressed as a trader that day at the slave market but kept out of site at the back just making up numbers. It was a joyous couple of days filming and all the cast and crew were fantastic to work with.
They revealed Æthelstan would be the first King of England way back when because it’s pretty common knowledge. Although in real life Northumbria only came under his rule through a marriage pact between his sister and, funny enough, Sihtric of Northumbria AKA Sigtrygg.
I really loved the entire series and I'm glad we got this movie. We TLK fans might carry on the pain of not getting another season for the rest of our days but if the choice they had to face was between giving us at least a movie or giving us nothing at all then I'm happy with what we got.
I love that Utred made him swear at the end never to have an air cuz he knew he was gay and nobody would ever ask questions why he never sired a child such a nice touch at the end there! I love the movie but I'm so bummed that the series is over😢😢
It was more an oath for a smooth transition of power to his younger brother. No heirs to the throne would avoid fighting and his brother can take the throne without bloodshed. Nothing to do with being gay.
@@cindimams4394 Well its also the fact that he never had any heirs in real life. Simply was a nice touch to the real history giving us a fictional explanation.
Now I can finally say that I knew all along that Æthelstan is the one that united all of England. Bamburgh (Bebbanburg) Castle is now on my bucket list to visit.
It's well worth it. It's the best preserved of the many castles of Northumberland, except for Alnwick, the little village of Bamburgh is charming, and the beach and surrounding countryside is beautiful.
After my comment about growing up in the same Mercian towns where much of this has been set, I've been waiting till now to add I now life near Kingston-upon-Thames where Æthelstan was crowned the first king of England.
I mean...m his first moment on screen as a child there's literally a sub title that says Athelstan: 1st king of all england. Also isbit really a spoiler if it's on Wikipedia?
Not exactly. He was dead a couple of years after the battle, and York was retaken by the Irish Vikings. So the unification still had a way to go, but it's the real start.
I think with this movie, the writers were thinking, “how many times can we piss off TLK fans?!” It took my emotions all over the place. I was ready to take up my sword & I don’t even have one! 😂 Oh, btw…some of the actors, like the guy who played young Ragnar wasn’t available for the movie. So he made it to Valhalla, I just say that he was in the bathroom at that particular time. Lol…
You most definitly do need to visit Bamburgh Castle, i live 15mins away from it, it is one of the most beautiful castle in Northern England, if not the most. I've been in it many of times, slept there too (the inside of the castle now has some apartments for people to rent to live in) it also has the most amazing coastline and beach in Northumberland
Been watching your livestream again and again, absolutely loved your reaction especially Nikki's towards the end! So glad that you guys loved it! The ending was so satisfying and emotional. Would've preferred another season but the movie did a fantastic job nonetheless. Thank you for watching TLK it's been a great journey with you guys, you made us Arselings very happy ❤
I loved the closing to Uhtred's story. The entire show has shown him doing two things constantly; protecting others and struggling with his identity of Saxon raised Dane. During the last battle he is desperatly trying to reach Aethlstan to defend him, even being wounded (possibly mortally) in the process, but in the end the boy he trained and helped raise was capable and strong on his own. And the last shot of him standing between the two doorways is a beautiful image, as he always was he is a man stuck between two worlds.
I've never been one for watch-alongs but decided to get the link saved and watch the next evening. It was a pleasure to rewatch this finale alongside your reactions.
Dammit Steven, im gonna miss you calling me arseling. What a ride its been, not the best movie, but the best last ride with Uhtred and the boys. Glad we got to enjoy all the way!
My heart broke...... it EFFING shattered to pieces at Aldhem's death and hearing Finnan in despair at his wife?! This movie. 😫 As Utred was standing at the doorway to Valhalla, I only took it as his destiny fulfilled at long last being welcomed to his rightful place among those loved, lost, and guiding his journey to where he can finally rest and be peace. Bebbanburg is absolutely on my list of must travel locations.
I wish they filmed an alternate ending with Uhtred being called to heaven with Beocca, Thyra, Osferth, Halig and Leofric living in paradise while he was being called to Valhalla, giving him one last choice to make. Half Saxon, Half Dane. Would have been nice to see the comparison, especially with how many times Uhtred got baptised.
Fun fact BEBBANBURG CASTLE which is called Bamburgh now is 20.2 miles from LINDISFARNE ISLAND where in the beginning of Vikings is where RAGNAR and company attacked and found the monk Athelstan which is considered the start of the Viking age
My Mom and I both LOVE The Last Kingdom to pieces!!!! We found it together randomly and instantly fell in love with the show and binge watched the entire series that was out at that point (as even season 4 hadn't dropped yet when we found this show. Soooo we were stuck waiting for a while for it to come out). And we still both loved the show... I was stuck waiting at home all day on April 14th for Mom to get home from work so we could watch the new movie together.... And.... we both LOVED the movie to pieces too!!!!! It did feel like a bow on top to us as well!!! It did feel like we'd just watched a very long episode of The Last Kingdom and there is ABSOLUTLY nothing wrong with that!!! We also shared a lot of your same feelings and frustrations about Athelstan being an ass to Uhtred the same as Edward and Alfred... That we both will miss Aldhelm and Uhtred too right along with you guys:'( And, on a side note, I saw that video too Nikki of Alexander Dreymon, who plays Uhtred, on Instagram of him stripping to Brittany Spears and I was laughing sooooo hard!!!!
It seems like only yesterday when I first heard you two were about to embark on this journey. You are my favorite reactors and I could not wait to tag along on this journey, to see it through a new lens. Do you know that feeling when you introduce someone you care about to something you love? Excitement and nerves both battling each other at the fore front of your mind? Watching you fall in love with this story has been so enjoyable I don't have the words to articulate how I really feel. Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened :) DESTINY IS ALL!
i must admit that 7 kings must die as a last kingdom continuation was a bit rough around the edges however as a definitive conclusion to Uhtred's story it was damn near a masterpiece. Uhtred is easily one of the best characters ever to be put to page or screen. he's easily up there as one of my favourite protagonists. he easily surpasses Jon Snow,Daenerys and Ragnar because his character arc was actually allowed to come full circle and be concluded in a way that feels both bittersweet yet satisfying. Uhtred getting the ending he deserves where he can either let go and go to Valhalla or hold off and stay among the living for just a little bit longer but it's left up to the viewer to decide was the perfect way to end it. while they did omit alot of characters in this film i think it was for the best because in the books it's a very depressing bloodbath in the sense that Stiorra dies defending her home and family only for them to later die of plaque including Sigtrygger and her children and Eadith also dies trying to help them. leaving Uhtred a widower once again but also lost another of his children and grandchildren alongside his son in law. i think for this films sake it's safe to assume that most characters have either died (Aelswith died of natural causes,Hild went to rome with Young Uhtred,Stiorra is either dead or went to Scandinavia, Eadith could have gone with either or maybe died of natural causes aswell.) keep in mind Uhtred,Finan and Sihtric in this film are all supposed to be semi-retired warriors in their late 70s early 80s. the last kingdom/7KMD's ending is very much like the show Lucifer (which i heavily encourage nikki and Steven to check out) where the ending is a happy ending disguised as a bittersweet one. these tend to be the best endings a show can go for because it feels satisfactory yet at the same time feels realistic because we got what we wanted but just not everything we wanted. I am hoping you guys will check out the winter king when it eventually comes out, that's another Bernard Cornwell set of books being made into a show and it can be considered The last kingdoms "house of the dragon" in the sense that it's a prequel set in same in the same universe but it's set a good few centuries before and it's set around the time of King Arthur. (assuming he was even real to begin with)
It had covid 19 vibes at points for sure....must have been very hard to make the film during the 2 first years of lockdowns and covid. But man i dont want it to be over.... QQ
What a rollercoaster it has been with this series! I have not felt so sad for a show to end since Viking's. I found it so fitting that the last thing Uhtred said "Destiny is all". I was sad not to see Uhtred Jr or his daughter Stiorra, but I guess they couldn't get everyone back for the film preheps e.g Ragnar not in Valhalla. Loved you're reactions to this amazing show! Bring on the next shows! Destiny is all! ⚔️💙
Fun historical fact : the saxon’s is people from presentday Denmark, Belgien and Netherlands who migrated to England in the 5 century, Then the Danes invated in the 8th 9 and 10’th century which this series depicts. Just to once again, to be invated by another Danish ( viking ) Colony = from Normandy, lead by the Danish Viking King Rollo’s grandson = William the conquer in 1066. Which bloodline still runs in the presentday english royals and therefor in family with the danish, Swedish and Norwegian royals.
Not a bad movie and a beautiful close to such an amazing series. Despite the "flaws" , they still nailed the ending. The only thing I didn't like in this movie was how we didn't have that much time to explore the enemy alliance unlike in all the previous seasons where I grew to like em even as passing antagonists.
Uhtred lived to see Alfred's dream come to fruition. Also, The Winter King is coming soon, based on Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles. It'll focus on 5th century Britain and the Saxon invasion during King Arthur's time.
I’ve loved your reactions and liked the movie but it did feel rushed. I wish we saw Ragnar and Sigtryggr in Valhalla. Also would have loved to have seen Erik and Siegfried feasting together in Valhalla as brothers even after everything that happened (even Erik on his own would have been good). I loved Aldhelm and cannot believe he died like that. Easily one of my favourite characters and his redemption from who he used to be was amazing. Really missed the female characters within the film: Hild, Aelswith, Eadith, Aelfwynn. Also it does seem weird that some random unnamed Dane potentially killed Uhtred after everything he’s been through. However I am extremely happy that Pyrlig survived, he did a great job taking over from Beocca
It’s not weird that multiple (because it wasn’t just one) unnamed people got the better of Uhtred. He’s old, which they made clear throughout the movie, and him going down like that is hyper-realistic.
Wicked traumatic ending. His character and Ragnar from Vikings are one of my two favourite characters ever created. You feel a super deep connection with them
I watched it again with my mom last night. We both cried so much! Loved your reaction arselings. I knew you would fall on love with it. Bamburgh Castle is amazing!!! My all time no 1 show. Forever! Destiny is all!! ❤️⚔️❤️
How the hell are we here already?! I remember you guys reacting to ep1 season 1 like it was yesterday... hell, I remember RECOMMENDING this series to you in Vikings days. Damn time flies!
I'd have loved to see Ragnar there and Gisela. I honestly think the actors couldn't be part of it due to other activities, but at least idk, maybe Brida callin Ragnar to come and greet Uhtred or sth like that. But I loooved that his father Ragnar was there ♥
Uhtred doesn't die though. In the books he lives anyway. I think it tries to show how is torn between saxon and dane. The book said something along the lines of Uhtred was so scared of dying from old age he carried his sword everywhere.
I live not far from bamburgh castle and it is a magnificent place and most definately a fantastic place to visit even more so when your a fan of last kingdom
A little late to the party but I finished the movie earlier today and the scene at the end where it shows the real Bebbanburgh (Now Bamburgh) threw me into a emotion bomb. What an absolutely amazing show and movie. Definitely in the books for one of my favorite movies.
A few places very VERY local to me.... The Wirral (The Wirral) 18 miles, Rumcofa (Runcorn) 7 miles and Thelwall (Thelwall) 2 miles and actually a Borough of my town Warrington. The River Mersey runs through Warrington and is believed to have derived from Anglo Saxon meaning boundary between Mercia and Northumbria. There is still an infantry regiment in the British Army called The Mercian Regiment that recruits from the old Counties of Mercia and I`m proud to have both Viking and Anglo Saxon blood in my veins.
Why would you be proud to have viking blood... They litterally came here and raped our woman, sacrificed our children, and sold Hundreds of thousands to the east as slaves..Along time ago, and these shows are great.. But they're not accurate.. Weird thing to be proud of..
I'm going to give my honest opinion on this, even though I know I'm in the minority: This movie either needed to be an 8-10 episode 6th season, or it needed to not be made at all. It was far too rushed, and as a result some things fell flat for me. Some of my issues: 1. More time needed to be devoted to Anlaf and the Irland Vikings, as well as the other kings. It was disjointed and rushed, so there was no investment in them emotionally. 2. Not only did we not have Aelswith, Eadith, Stiorra, Young Uhtred, Hild,Sihtric's family, or King Edward, the only mention of any of those was Edward dying offscreen. We didn't have Ragnar in Valhalla. No Gisela either. They all just...disappeared. 3. Aethelstan went from a beloved character in the show, to yet another merciless, murdering sycophant. He trusted Inglmunder more than Uhtred, which made no sense. He flat out murdered dozens of people, including his brother, and executed Aldhelm for no reason. And there were no repercussions for any of it. But it really comes down to this: why was the movie made in the 1st place? There weren't any loose ends at the end of the show. I was ecstatic seeing Uhtred get Bebbenburg, it left the impression that he and Eadith would have ended up together. After seeing the Hell Aelswith put Uhtred through for years, I was happy knowing she chose living in his city than leaving. It was a full arc that this movie did away with. The only thing I REALLY liked was the ending, with a dying Uhtred torn between staying with friends, or going to Valhalla. But again, not getting the actor who played Ragnar to come back for one scene is unforgivable. I know I'm in the minority, and it's fine. TLK is a top 10 show of all time for me, and I'll rewatch it multiple times, but I will not rewatch the movie. My perfect ending stays with Season 5, Episode 10.
It seems like the movie was a last minute decision made after a lot of the actors were committed to other things or the producers were saving money on the cast wages. Everything about it seems too rushed but surely the writers could have mentioned the fate of the missing characters for instance with Aelswith all they had to do was say that Edward was being laid to rest in the tomb with his father and mother -easily done, explains her character not being there and a cheap option
And when in Bebbanburg, you should go another hour east, to where it all began in the year 500 AD for the Danes / Vikings, in Lejre ( outside the town Roskilde f. 983 AD ) where you can actually walk inside the ruins of the Great halls of where Ragnar Lothbrok, Ivar the boneless, Bjørn Ironside, Canute and Harald Bluetooth etc was born.
True history note. The battle depicted in this movie, Battle of Brunanburh, has been known as the battle that shaped England. The location has been lost to historians since the 13th century. This year, same year this movie was released, archeologists and historians have used metal detectors and ground pentatrating radar to have a very likely spot for the battle. Pretty cool how the timing worked on that.
His brother Ragnar was there in Valhalla, he was just getting another jug of ale :) I think he couldn't be there due to scheduling conflicts but we can assume he was.
Hi Nikki and Steven. I'm far too seasoned in the art of arsery to be referred to in the diminutive 'arseling' and must therefore declare myself a full-blown Arse. Never-the-less, I really enjoy your refreshingy genuine and heartfelt reaction videos. Thank you. I thought you might be interested to know that I was watching this whilst on holiday in Northumberland, about 30 minutes' drive away from Bamburgh Castle. In fact I visited the castle (my second time) last week, mainly because they currently have a 'Last Kingdom' exhibition on, displaying costumes, props etc. Thus inspired, I immediately signed up for Netflix and caught up, watching series 5 and the film. Superb, as you say. Then I watched you watching them - which I'm old enough to find slightly bizzare, even whilst enjoying it. But yes, you must visit Bamburgh Castle - it isn't Bebbanburg as you know it but it IS spectacular. For that matter, you would LOVE Northumberland as a whole (which, again, isn't Northumbria as you know it, being only the North-Eastern part of that erstwhile kingdom). But it's big enough - and absolutely overflowing with history, including more castles per square inch than seems feasible, grand houses and estates, gardens, Hadrian's Wall and many associated Roman archaelogical sites, Holy Island (Lindisfarne) and the other Farne Islands, stunning landscapes, abundant wildlife, vast sandy dune-fringed beaches, atmospheric pubs, friendly locals. You really must do it. And do it whilst you're still young arselings. x

I'm visiting Bamburg castle (Bebbanburg) on Monday, in the area for a week visiting various sites from this series and Vikings. Looking forward to it :)

What a great ending. As much as we all suffered Uhtred's death, we got a chance to see him basically die on the battlefield the greatest warrior of his time. Great show! Cheers!
Love that ending how he stands there between Valhalla and his people he sworn to, was a man of all peoples he tried to protect all sides I wish people could be like this irl instead of everyone trying to ve about their own and fuck everyone else
I don't think he died at the end. He just saw Valhalla. He wasn't carrying a sword. There was an empty chair ready for him when it became time to pass over. And I think it was a relief for him to know that there was aplace set out for him, waiting.
Ignoring the turbo horses that travel across England in no time at all (Winchester to Bebbanburg/Bamburgh is around 350 miles), the way they massacred the character of Aethelstan, and the fact that Uhtred is pushing bloody 80 (!) I still really enjoyed this as a fitting epilogue to the story of TLK.
I don't think you realize how much time passes in this movie. From stan being crowned king to him reuniting uhtred to his son was 1 year. there was 1 year covered in like 30 min.
I absolutely love this movie!!! I laughed, cried, and cried some more. I agree with to wishing there was a S6. However, this was perfectly executed. Martha Hillier is a bloody GENIUS !!!

I agree a shortened season would have been better then the movie.
Even a mini-series would've been better than one movie... Not enough time to get a good story with all these characters to deal with. 🤘🤔

@@iTwistyz Exactly, couldn’t agree more.
@@iTwistyz The title is literally 7 Kings Must Die though.
1. Edward
2. 5 kings (sons on the battlefield even though they weren't technically kings)
3. Uthred (regarded as king to the 5 kings during the king meeting at night. Same story with the 5 kings sons, not technically king but they could have been. Uthred also could have been king of Northumbria)
I also think he might have been holding onto a dagger in his clothes at the end or something
Holy shit I just realized that
Excellent point
I cried like a baby at the ending. There’s something about following a great story and show for years from start to finish that often gets some tears flowing - To all the souls whose good deeds were never written for future generations to see
Watching Finan hold his wife the same way he held Osferth when he was dying after Osferth helped save Finan's wife in season 5 was heart wrenching! 😭
It also guarantees that he won’t kill his brother like he did the other one. I think Utred was more concerned about that.

One of the best shows ever made on TV. The emotions it makes you feel the love for the characters. Very few shows make you feel something and this show does.
Nikki : "Aethelstan is such a good kid."
Me.: 😁 3...2...1...
@@markmorris7123 how do they not understand this is a show not a documentary
I wouldn't even call the show underrated honestly. It's always topping Netflix charts.
1 final big decision for him to make
My friend said they are considering making it 3 movies, might be why it left it for us to decide if he lives or dies

@@ligman100they didn’t consider that after the movie was made dude. Don’t lie
While the books ending were slightly different, this was still good. Uthred survives in the books, growing to old age. In the books, HE is the narrator and constantly makes references to his imminent death due to old age, making him carry his sword everywhere.
Also, I bawled my eyes out when the final battle began and right till the end.
You dont think that you are spoiling the books now?
"growing to old age" my guy by this point in the story Uhtred,Finan and Sihtric WERE OLD.
they were pushing 80 that is why the younger warriors where able to get the drop on Uhtred and able to take his sword and how he was getting slashed to hell in the final battle. Uhtred was not a young man anymore he's only able to still keep up because even at that age he was still in great shape and had a great style of living. age still slows you down regardless of how fit you are.
well also in the movie, they don't really show him dead, but really on the verge of death. I think it was more of him struggling to decide to keep fighting to stay alive and help his friends, or finally die and join his friends and family in the after life.
don't say the ending to the books here!
I was in TLK (S.2) and I'm also a fan of the show. Alex Dreymon and Mark Rowley are not just great actors, they are genuinely nice people too. They were great with us extras. I even got a hug from Alex when we first met him.

I love the movie but I'm so bummed that the series is over😢😢
Gay people can still have kids lol
@@kokemon84ah yes so Athelstan should be forced to sleep with a woman when he’s not attracted to them 🤡
It was more an oath for a smooth transition of power to his younger brother.

@@silgen was that castle also used in the TV series Robin of Sherwood. It seemed familiar
Not exactly. He was dead a couple of years after the battle, and York was retaken by the Irish Vikings. So the unification still had a way to go, but it's the real start.

Emotions all over the place 😢 Sure am going to miss watching Uhtred & his clan. What a great series TLK turned out to be. One of the best.
Lol…
they really should've made a bigger effort to get him in there. Even just use CGI come on
You most definitly do need to visit Bamburgh Castle, i live 15mins away from it, it is one of the most beautiful castle in Northern England, if not the most.
And the last shot of him standing between the two doorways is a beautiful image, as he always was he is a man stuck between two worlds.
it does confuse people though because Uhtred doesn't die.
This movie. 😫
As Utred was standing at the doorway to Valhalla, I only took it as his destiny fulfilled at long last being welcomed to his rightful place among those loved, lost, and guiding his journey to where he can finally rest and be peace.
Yeah ans alfred! Alfred in heaven😊

I'm going to give my honest opinion on this, even though I know I'm in the minority:
This movie either needed to be an 8-10 episode 6th season, or it needed to not be made at all. It was far too rushed, and as a result some things fell flat for me. Some of my issues:
Perfect show and cast, will attract people to the series and to the movies, amazing!
And do it whilst you're still young arselings. x
I have the privilege of living an hour away from Bamburgh Castle, one of many fantastic castles in Northumberland.

I hope you guys can visit Bebbanburg!
that ending scene was everything I wanted for to be shown at the end of Vikings
I know Nikki, I am bawling again. I am happy for Uthred to be with his buds in Valhalla.
I love how the movies final battle was so similar to the very first battle we saw in season one. It was a perfect bookend to the whole series.
I don't think he died at the end. He just saw Valhalla. He wasn't carrying a sword. There was an empty chair ready for him when it became time to pass over. And I think it was a relief for him to know that there was aplace set out for him, waiting.
"I LIKE AETHELSTAN, HE'S A GOOD KID" KEK
Ignoring the turbo horses that travel across England in no time at all (Winchester to Bebbanburg/Bamburgh is around 350 miles), the way they massacred the character of Aethelstan, and the fact that Uhtred is pushing bloody 80 (!) I still really enjoyed this as a fitting epilogue to the story of TLK.
I don't think you realize how much time passes in this movie. From stan being crowned king to him reuniting uhtred to his son was 1 year. there was 1 year covered in like 30 min.
What a ride !! Thanks for these reactions!!
Alnwick, Bamburgh and the surrounding areas are so nice, would definitely recommend a visit even without this as context!
I absolutely love this movie!!! I laughed, cried, and cried some more. I agree with to wishing there was a S6. However, this was perfectly executed. Martha Hillier is a bloody GENIUS !!!
Greetings from the Wirral! It’s weird to think I walk my dog at the possible battle location (Brunnanburh/Bromborough)
Bamburgh is a beatiful place
