His dad is a traditional Chinese businessman with a very successful biz carrying the legacy torch from his father and naturally want AT to continue the legacy build up by his grandfather. So despite of Grab's success, it'll never please his father. But deep down, AT's is sure damn proud of his achievements.
He literally renounced his Malaysian citizenship, doubt his dad is very happy with him. Also, there's probably more to the story since even his co founder step down from grab.
The father should feel proud and drop his immature ego. The father should be able to recognize his son’s business acumen and how it can benefit the family as a whole for decades to come. Instead, the father is selfish and can’t see beyond the one company the grandfather founded years ago.

Grab started in Malaysia. Moved to Singapore for reasons. Amongst other things affirmative action and monopoly of taxi business by rent seeking cartels, in which case the law was drafted by dinasaurs and Grab managed to skirt around the issue, with political backlash, but nevertheless managed to wade the waters and thrived.
Put more of those billion profits into the drivers who work tirelessly for 16 hours straight. Many drivers I talked to in Asia said they could barely make a living.
I was thinking he started from zero to hero but was supporting by his rich family, yeah of course he has been working so hard for it without the aid of his family it’s gonna be so hard to make such a business like this
The reality is that many Grab drivers are being suppressed. The company calls drivers "partners" rather than employees to avoid paying social security. The income per job is reduced, and no insurance is provided.
I am from NYC now living in Saigon many years. I use Grab and find it incredibly useful and easy and cost effective. I just worry sometimes for the drivers because the fares are so low and they have to pay commission to Grab rightfully so. Anyway... Grab managers... please somehow make sure they survive.
