Good evening Greg. I just had two weeks in Singapore focused on eating, gardens and looking at art. I used notes in part taken from your videos as a guide for the eating aspect of this adventure. This was a rather good move as it took me out of the mainstream tourist icons and into the suburbs (Mind you, I did hit the Colony Buffet). Mate, there is some really good food out there! One of the things I learnt was just how much food there was in 'coffee shops' rather than hawker centres. As I cruised through the suburbs, I would come across little collections of eateries all under one roof with one or two stalls with long lines (are these what are called coffee shops? I mean the all under the one roof thing not the long lines ). Nine out of ten these long line eateries were wonderful.
The one real problem I had was getting across the idea that the stall holder should just give me some good food. They always wanted me to pick and choose what I wanted when often I had no idea what was on offer. Is there a word or phrase for 'just give me some good food' in Singlish? If not, how about you invent such a word? You're a journalist and all that. Aren't journalists the ones who's job it is to invent words of the now?
Oh, and I need you to invent and popularise the word by next year when I will be back.
    Cheers
    Dr Mark

Hi mark, yes they are called “coffee shops” and just ask them what their signature dishes are (你的招牌菜是什么) (Nǐ de zhāopái cài shì shénme). Thank you for your entertaining post. Am pinning this if you don’t mind 😆

My family lived in Singapore from the end of 1970 to early 1973. We lived in three houses and spent the last two months in the old Garden Hotel that was in Balmoral Avenue. Our first house was on Sixth Avenue and the next one was around the corner in Namly Avenue, near where former Prime Minister Goh lives.
This angmoh uncle certainly misses his trips to Singapore and Malaysia. One day when money got and COVID not got!

Never tried this wanton mee before. I would drop by to try it when I'm around the corner. My favorite wanton mee stalls are Hua Kee at Old Airport Road and Hong Ji at Telok Blangah.

Greg, As always did a great job in finding such a gem and your commentary is always very genuine, this is the site that I go to if I looking for specific hawker food,!

Today i Subscribed to this channel. I had seen many food TH-cam and mostly are not local. They did fantastic job of introducing the food. Greg food videos does not have fancy B rolls. What he has is a sincere review of the food and when Greg gives his opinion on that food..you will not have 2nd thoughts. Cheers..Keep up the Good Work of introducing good food to Singaporeans and to the world

OMG I missed out sharing some screen time with the famous Greg!
Yeah this wanton noodle shop is one of those gems that is unfortuantely, often forgotten about. I, myself, often go and just eat the fishball noodles instead... That could also be because it's always sold out by the time I make my over for lunch.
I'm glad that you've come to the West side, Greg! I'd be keen to hear your opinions on the fishball noodles at the same shop and the food over at Beauty World Hawker centre and Bukit Timah Market!

    You are a excellent eater
So honest with the taste of the food, I really don’t know exactly where it is I left Singapore 46 years ago but the only thing I miss is the weather and the convenience of hawkers food
As in Canada it is a different
    Thing
Stay safe and keep up your beautiful videos 🙏🥂

By the way, have you tried the Wanton Mee, along Binjai Park, in Bukit Timah. I believe it’s in Hup Choon Eating House.
Looking forward to your next video, from your fan in Perth, Australia.

I live around the west area but feel like most of the wanton mee in the area are kind of average.
Wanton mee is my favorite dish so kind of disappointed.
