    I'm running into an issue where once they are about a month old, they begin attacking one another with death as the eventual result. Most people will quickly attribute this situation to lack of adequate space but it happens when I have just 3-4 birds in a 4x4 foot pen. I'm not sure what to do as so much time and effort has gone into breeding my pheasants this year and I'm hitting a brick wall at the month old stage. They still seem too little to put in with the adults, as the adults will probably attack them. Plus I'm in Canada and springtime days and nights can be quite cool. Any thoughts?

    Seems like the only care difference between pheasant and chickens are the feed and the bedding when they are young. Good info.

      We sell from the eggs to the full grown bird. Eggs can ship anywhere in the US lower 48. Day Old Chicks ship only to 1 day points from Ohio and anything over 1 day old chicks has to be picked up on our farm. So depending on your location I am not sure if starter chicks are an option to sell you. Feel free and call the farm to place your order if that works for you or if you have any questions. Thanks!

      They will fly away if you let them in an open area. about 20 sqft per bird. 20% protein gamebird feed.

    Why don't your pheasant chicks pick feathers or chop each other to blood - when they go so close? Sincerely, Frank Chr. also breeder of game in Denmark.

      Oh they sometimes do. I move them in stages as they get older. I've been doing this for awhile and just look for signs when they are stressed. They get bored too so a head of lettuce can keep them busy as well

      @@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 Thanks for reply. Yes, here we also have the same challenges with pheasant chickens - here they go in flocks of 350 pieces. in large running farms with bottom vegetation so we use the method to cut the outermost part of the beak off at 4 weeks of age, and then they are exposed as 6-weeks in the wild.

    I just built an enameled steel coop out of a display, but I'm wondering about using steel water troughs and how cold the ground is, compared to rubber troughs or wood setups. That is, steel is a real passive absorber of COLD. Ninety in the room but what is the temp. on their ground where the birds actually are???

      @thedwightguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 I just gave my steel coop a dry run with old barred rock hens, not laying. I was surprised that the temperature and humidity matched outside. I expected moisture issues, but no. lots of ventilation. I have a 100 watt red light but it's really not needed. I'm going to use it as a quarantine for adult birds coming in.

    Do we need to feed them any kind of vitamin protine?

    • @cheyennelmetcalf
      @cheyennelmetcalf 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No and don't go for ANY medicated feed but make sure to look fore 28% protein and there are a few vitamin water supplements but I don't know if you can use then for pheasants

    I am new to ornamental pheasant keeping and was wondering if their care is close to ring necks? Most of the information I can find is for ring necks. I understand that their run sizes are different but in terms of feed ect. any info would be great!

    • @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115
      @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately I have never raised any ornamental pheasants before. I would just be guessing if I were to give you any information about the care of them. Facebook has groups that I am sure would help you, but you'll have to search a little to find the right group. I personally would start there. Good Luck!

      @@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 I loaned a banty for brooding to a golden pheasant breeder and they're basically wild birds, even wilder than ringnecks. He gave me a pair, and my neighbour had a GIANT large high enclosure for the breed, and I gave the pair to the neighbour. basically, they have their own needs.

    At what age can you determine male/female by color?

    • @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115
      @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can usually tell by 5 or 6 weeks. I look at the two things in particular especially for the males. I look at the spurs which start growing and the dark color around the eyes. Now if I wanted to (but I don't) I can look when they are a day old by the shape of the head and the eyes as well. I don't practice that method because I sell quiet a few day old chicks as straight-run and I pick them at random. Just seems fair that way.

      @@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 what about cocks being more aggressive than hens, even as small chicks??? have you noticed??

    • @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115
      @sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thedwightguy If they are stressed out they can be more aggressive (cocks and hens). To prevent that I make sure they have enough room, good feed, fresh water, and apply blinders to them around 6 weeks of age.
