    One of my greatest memories is walking the corn fields of Ohio as a child and be delighted by the quick flight of a beautiful pheasant.

    I like the little red bow ties. They are fashion forward and provide the little birds with a dignity that chickens can only wish for.

    Pretty much verifies what I'd already knew raising pheasants isn't that hard but pheasants are crazy little birds, they are not like chickens.
    And you definitely have to have them in a contained area like the one you built.
    And obviously you'll never free-range them like chickens or you'll never see them again. LoL
    I thought about raising pheasants and quail.

I'm in middle georgia there are 2 of them hiding in the taller grass. one is the fancy colors the other is smaller and brown straw looking pattern. not even scared of ne i can walk really close to them, they just look up at me.

  • @mikeash7428

    Nice set up. Is your intent to release into the wild. You mentioned they would take off but maybe they would stick around and breed. I'm thinking of trying the mutants or green version of the ringneck. Have you had experience with those?. I've noticed the chicks have more black spotting on some so i am wondering if that darker color predicts a darker green adult. I like the lower bottom idea on your pen to prevent the birds from getting scared and to hide them from predators...smart idea.

    Can you please help, I have a female pet pheasant that I rescued when it was a day or two old, she is now 20 weeks old and has bald areas around her eyes, below the eyes near where's the beak starts and on the back of neck, also the bald area near the beak looks raised like a lump, any idea what could cause this?, she is an indoor bird and sleeps in a large cage in a spare bedroom, she comes out and roams around the house in the daytime, since she reached full grown I've been feeding her no 5 maintenance pellets for pheasants

    • @masonbrubaker1952
      @masonbrubaker1952 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could be due to parasites. Pheasants in the wild or raised on the ground will dust bathe to knock parasites and bugs off of them. An indoor bird could be infested with these with no way to get them off.

    my vring neck chicks were so damn hyper and jumpy, that drowning wasnt an issue.... i dont have issues with them attacking each other, but they are pecking at the other birds in their enclosure...they are still young though...and i dont know what it is with red golds, but the ring necks seem to be a hell of alot hardier than the red gold pair i had

    • @schmitzfarmandoutdoors

      My PowerPoint discussed the pros/cons of raising pheasants. Since I was given permission to buy chickens but not pheasants, I compared pheasants to chickens for aspects such as hunting uses, cost to raise, beauty, and the overall learning experience that I would gain from raising them.

    How long take from hatch to adult size.

    • @schmitzfarmandoutdoors
      @schmitzfarmandoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes about 20-22 weeks for pheasants to become fully grown. They eat more feed when they are growing compared to when they reach maturity.

    Is it possible to tame an adult ringneck pheasant?

    • @schmitzfarmandoutdoors
      @schmitzfarmandoutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it’s possible, you would have to start the process when the pheasants are chicks. As they grow older, they are very skiddish and afraid of people.

    Be careful feeding the boiled eggs whole like that if there anything like coturnix quail or chickens they will eat them after they lay them

    • @schmitzfarmandoutdoors
      @schmitzfarmandoutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pheasants are much larger than quail. Perhaps as chicks or as a temporary spot it may be alright. I wouldn’t recommend this long term.
