We did SIMILAR back in March: traded in wife's beloved Kia Sorento SX Prestige PHEV for the brand new Kia EV9 Light... and LOVE IT. We had leased the Sorento and was into two years of a three year lease. We had leased this vehicle for this EXACT reason: to 'wait' patiently for a THREE-ROW seated SUV pure EV.... KIA came to the rescue before FORD did(and, if they ever do, with a EV EXPLORER). We traded it in, with the balance of the lease as part of the deal - trade-in allowance was basically the price we owed for the lease balance. We LEASED the new EV9, to INCLUDE the full TAX REBATE, and immediately PAID OFF THE LEASE, in full, the very next month, never having made a single 'lease' payment. Our '22 F150 LIGHTNING and a new '24 EV9 in the carport looks good, feels good, drives good, and IS good : ) it's ALL good : ) Both are SR battery packs, and we ROAD TRIP all the time, and love it!
Nick if you decided to buy out the lease, no worries, I have a 2020 Kia Soul EV Limited Trim (64KWH battery) here in Canada with almost 100K KM, only issue was the 12volt Lead Acid battery which I replaced with a AGM in year 1, never had another dead battery after doing that and it is a great runabout addition with our 2023 Telse Model Y Long Range AWD for road tripping. Kia's EV's are so very reliable!
@@Chris-hw4mq No reason to replace the whole pack if there is an issue with one or 2 modules, who ever quoted you this you need to talk to Kia Cooperate as they will investigate any battery issues especially with some dealers that are not fully trained on battery servicing.

We had a Niro PHEV, certainly a few steps below a BWM PHEV but we didn't keep it long either. PHEVs just aren't that good and once you buy one you find it uses the gas engine much more than you expected. 30-40 miles of range just isn't that much in the real world and they need to be charged constantly and after every drive. We traded it for an Ioniq 5 and it's been much better in every way. I see no reason to go back to a PHEV anymore.
I think you got a great deal on this EV9. IMO you should try to keep daily charging to 80% through. Yes you are leasing and it’s not your problem but I want the person buying the car after to have a good experience in most likely their first EV. I bought an EV9 from that dealer too and had it shipped to Alabama and tho their people were pretty fantastic and the deal was good, the process it a bit lengthy and cumbersome. I understand why they do it how they do, but just so people know, it is a bit of a process to go thru to buy and ship. Also, my vehicle arrived with a nail in the tire, but they took care of me and got it shipped to my local Kia (They could not get a hold of that tire for what would have been weeks...) and it's been well taken care of. All in all, a really good dealership to deal with, if your local Kia places are not acting right. One of ours wouldn't honor the $7500 Kia discount without financing thru Kia and the other dealers didnt have the spec we wanted.
The 7500 discount only ever applies if you're leasing through Kia financial. EV9 is not assembled in the US so you can't get the consumer version of the 7500 tax credit. However, Kia financial is allowed that credit if they are financing the lease. This is exactly the same for every single EV from every brand that is ineligible for the consumer version of the federal EV credit. Consumer Reports (CR) has guidelines on how to purchase or lease a new vehicle. CR often even knows what the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle. I used the service once and made one mistake. Maybe two. The first mistake was showing the sales rep the price he paid for the car and asking how close could he could meet that price. He rejected me immediately and wouldn't talk. The other mistake was getting a deal that we ultimately accepted but we allowed the guy to put a timeline on us. We should have walked. There are other dealers. The car was not the best in its class but it was near the top. We/I drove it for 20 years. Anyway, I feel compelled to comment because the deal making with the trade-in sounded complicated. That's what dealers like. Very nice, thanks for sharing, I have liked the EV9 since Kyle's first review. If I was in the market for an Electric SUV, it would be an EV9. Very nice color as well.
Rivian's sales interface with potential customers is off-putting and frankly...Stupid. I wonder how many potential customers this has driven away, and not in Rivians. We Had a 2015 KIA Sorento, it was as reliable as and anvil and got great MPG if driven efficiently. .
Plus, after the dealership literally just gave OOS an EV9 for a year, the dealership deserves the nod. They're good cars, so it's not like they are pushing crap.
Not really sponsored, but Kyle did say that Out of Spec would continue to subtly promote the dealer. The dealer didn’t actually expect endorsement as a return for loaning a long term EV9, but OOS just always includes a “hey thanks for that!”
Anyone who goes full electric even at this time is still an early adopter. There are risks going BEV. I'm waiting for solid state batteries and more charging stations.
@@AbolishCommunism it might be, but he specifically stated he might want to charge an ev. And use an industrial rated 14-50 socket. Unless of course the electrician went 8/3 or worse. Just thought about that.
If you check the residual, it's likely a very good deal in the sense that a lot of total lease payments + buyout end up costing 16k under MSRP for these EV9s. Depends on your lease terms (Kia sets the residuals and MFs, only certain combos of trim and lease durations will trigger the extra cheap lease deals). So you can end up saving over 15k off sticker just by leasing and then immediately paying off the remainder of the lease and buying the vehicle. See leasehakr for more such lease deals.
The R1S price starts where the EV9 tops out. They each have their pluses and minuses. Android auto/Carplay, 800V architecture , Kia warranty/stable company, the EV9 has more interior space, captain chairs etc... I personally went R1S, but i can see why the EV9 is attractive for many
I’m sorry, but anybody that has to go to a charging station with a phev Is seriously mentally deficient, as somebody that owns an X5 plug-in the whole point of having that type of car is that you can charge it at home either one over the course of the night or a couple hours with a 220 outlet. If your car has the ability to run on gasoline, you should not be at a charging station, EV nine looks nice though
He went from $1400 a month BMW X5 PHEV to a $800 a month KIA EV9 BEV. Seems like a great deal for this guy. Get what you can afford, there is no need to judge others on what car payment they can afford.
Saying peak cringe is peak cringe. Saying it about "don't really fit in" for a steal of a deal on a great car that they spent a good deal of time explaining how much better he fits in this car than his BMW means you have serious basic comprehension impairment.
I’d like to start by saying I really like how it looks I really love the interior especially but as somebody whose family member works as a specialist at Kia warranty services I will say that I hear the worst things about Kia EV’s as of lately. Kia EV’s have given Kia warranty services a lot of issues and the dealerships are the worst and will go through every avenue not to help. People are calling nonstop and complaining about how the batteries don’t hold charge after a few months how the sunroof are literally exploding at the slightest tweaking of the vehicle over speed bumps or turning out of steep driveways where they are at awkward angles and some of the EV‘s are just straight up catching fire. Kia has kept this under wraps pretty well, but if you go on forums and start doing some digging you will see that Kia EV’s are actually doing horrible. Kia cannot keep up with the complaints so when you go to a dealership, they will refer you to customer service hotline customer service hotline will then refer you back to the dealership and you’ll be ping-ponging between the two trying to get a straight answer. Meanwhile your car is either not working or broken my family member has been working for Kia services for a long time and has forbid any of my family from buying a new Kia. Kia is looking great like I said but the service and issues as of right now are worth the safety of a family member in my opinion. Again don’t take my word for it look those issues up on forums and you make your own decisions.
Nobody who watches this channel regularly understands the true cost of depreciation. No amount of fuel savings will outrun EVs steep depreciation on top of new car depreciation. The lease buyout plus payment will show you how much money your lit on fire.
What if I want to sit in the car with it off? What if I want to leave the car parked with it on? How much fucking around with an app or touchscreen does doing either of these things require versus just pressing a dedicated button?
@@HDHQDIRECT If we assume all EVs have a park “gear” then a start/stop button is redundant. If you want to drive you put it in drive, if you are done put it in park. Pressing “Start” then selecting “Drive” or selecting “Park” then pressing “Stop” is unnecessary. We aren’t starting up or shutting down an engine so why do we need a button for it? And as mentioned in the video, some EVs don’t “shut down” automatically when you exit the vehicle. You have to press the button to “turn it off.” I have no problem with buttons but it seems like a silly design that a lot of manufacturers are holding on to from their history designing ICE vehicles.
@@Smidge204 I’m not sure I understand. Typically the only use of the Start/stop is if you want to drive. If you are sitting in the car while parked what are you turning off? Very nice, thanks for sharing, I have liked the EV9 since Kyle's first review. If I was in the market for an Electric SUV, it would be an EV9. Very nice color as well.
Cheers guys
Very informative! I really want an ev9. By the way, how tall is nick??? He makes the ev9 look like a Kia soul!
6-5.5
Rivian's sales interface with potential customers is off-putting and frankly...Stupid. I wonder how many potential customers this has driven away, and not in Rivians.
We Had a 2015 KIA Sorento, it was as reliable as and anvil and got great MPG if driven efficiently. .
If you’re paying that much why not do r1s?…
There’s like 10 minutes of the video devoted to why not rivian
While not explicitly stated, this video was clearly sponsored by FoCo Kia.
They did say they are partnering with that company near the beginning of the video.
@@Thardas Okay, fair enough.
Try to count the number of times he uses the word "like", good luck.
Have you met someone who’s originally from another county? It’s great real life content and that’s what you get out of it… 🙄
First mistake is not getting a Rivian r1s
EV9's are sitting on lots unsold in OKC, even with $15K off the MSRP.
$1400 a month for a car? WOW
EV9 review… 25% of time dissing Rivian.
love your videos, and im sure its more profitable to do long videos, but i cant watch a whole 40 minutes. find myself skipping through bits
Anyone who goes full electric even at this time is still an early adopter. There are risks going BEV. I'm waiting for solid state batteries and more charging stations.

What electrician thought a 30 amp breaker on a 14-50 made sense? The 50 in 14-50 is there for a reason.
It's common practice.
@@AbolishCommunism it might be, but he specifically stated he might want to charge an ev. It costs $20 more for a 50amp GFCI breaker (I assume the house is new enough and the electrician was aware that a GFCI breaker was required).
Just install the 50 amp breaker. And use an industrial rated 14-50 socket.
Unless of course the electrician went 8/3 or worse. Just thought about that.

Grand car the Kia EV9
Review all-new eSprinter 2024 represents the first fully-electric van in North America from Mercedes-Benz USA. An
18,500 to lease it for 2 years is steep!
R1S > EV9
Well it’s also more expensive, so it should be.
The R1S price starts where the EV9 tops out. They each have their pluses and minuses. Android auto/Carplay, 800V architecture , Kia warranty/stable company, the EV9 has more interior space, captain chairs etc... I personally went R1S, but i can see why the EV9 is attractive for many
@@muden10 ok so your logic is that the more the price is hight the more the car is better lol
@@xavierdupuis8 it isn’t rocket science. If you pay more, you should get more, no?
@@xavierdupuis8 and what is your logic? You don't think something that costs more should be better?
If you’re wondering if you can afford the lease, you can’t…
(2 year old ) Id 4 . 20k negative equity 🤣 also 🤮. You should've just waited and got it used.
Being this proud of a $769 KIA lease payment for a car you really don’t fit in is peak cringe.
Not me, I enjoyed buying a Kia EV9 so no cringe here.
He went from $1400 a month BMW X5 PHEV to a $800 a month KIA EV9 BEV. Seems like a great deal for this guy. Get what you can afford, there is no need to judge others on what car payment they can afford.
Do you enjoy waiting hours to pull up to charger then more time to charge?
Saying peak cringe is peak cringe. Saying it about "don't really fit in" for a steal of a deal on a great car that they spent a good deal of time explaining how much better he fits in this car than his BMW means you have serious basic comprehension impairment.
@@skyhawk21 I charge at home. Takes 5 seconds to plug in and go inside.
Paid sponsorship from Kia.
Please make sure that your friends tell you about future problems that they'll have with their Kia !!
That’s why you lease
Nobody who watches this channel regularly understands the true cost of depreciation. No amount of fuel savings will outrun EVs steep depreciation on top of new car depreciation. The lease buyout plus payment will show you how much money your lit on fire.
Yawn…..
A Start/Stop button on an EV is a ICE manufacture mindset. It doesn’t make sense for an EV
George Jetson didn't have a problem pushing buttons. All other electric appliances have an off button. What's your problem with it?
Weight on seat sensors should know if there is an occupant so infotainment and climate controls should turn off when you exit.
ICE or EV, I want to have absolute control of whether my car is on or off. Not just the engine but the infotainment and everything.
Nick, clean up your speech , tone down the ‘like’ and ‘like’ and ‘like’. Seriously
Help me understand why a 7 seater model y wouldn’t be better than this?
They are exponentially smaller, especially the third row. Model X is more comparable in size.
You can actually comfortably fit adults in the 3rd row of the EV9. Even model X is smaller.
Rwd model 3 $299 month js
Actual SUV shaped SUV with a usable third row. Not a coupe shape like the X with the goofy falcon wing doors.
@@wktuba9676 I like the X but the doors are a matter of when not if they fail IMO. Hate extra money spent to get the third row useful for adults.
Too bad rivian lost a customer, but it is sad someone buying a lesser vehicle - from bmw x5 to Kia ev9 is a huge downgrade imho - cringe move for sure - he will be pulling up to rivians and regretting this Kia lease payment day in and day out.
This car is a joke compared to the concept.
Phev is The only option for at least the next 25 years, full EV cars are just not good enough nor is the charging network. ( uk based)
wft are you doing on this channel? Do you really have nothing better to do that watch videos about a category of products that you think "are just not good enough"? That is sad.
Phev refueling stations are a expensive explosion waiting to happen
Silly reply, I watch to stay up to date with EVs developments! No need to be closed minded.
@@ianpalin8318 lol "No need to be closed minded." You need to read your post and take your own advice. Or rather find something better to do with your time than 'stay up to date' with something that you've decided is not going to be good enough for the next 25 years. According to your own words, there is no point to you 'keeping up' until 25 years has past. And regardless of your oh so insightful opinion, there is zero point on you making pointless posts shitting on someone's decision to get an EV.
25 years??? Wow, no way
Wow, not very environmentally conscience. You've got a huge carbon hole to dig yourself out of now. Should have kept the PHEV.
I’m sure people are losing sleep over anonymous people we can’t even verify being real, who haven’t posted any videos, about their criticism of their EV choice when a lot of folks buy these for performance and technology, not virtue signaling.
