  • My review of the #Birdcam from @wingscapes. This camera is amazing and of great quality. Perfect price point for this camera. I have the bird feeder, and I used to have a very old version of this camera. The old one took D-cell batteries! This one does exactly what I have been hobby-building for years. Finally the whole package that meets my exact needs. Check this thing out!

I like the concept of the Wingscapes Birdcam with it's compact size and adjustable close-focus lens, but I think it's about time they:
    1. Upgrade the video specs to record full HD (1080p@30fps) at least, with audio and extend the clip duration up to 1 minute. Without sound you are only telling half of the story.
    2. Incorporate Wifi with a phone app for 'live view' so that the subject can be properly framed and recording can be initiated remotely. Not to mention 'calibrating' the 'minimum focus distance' at the different settings - according to this review the markings on the lens dial are not accurate.

I agree with your comments on the video spec upgrade. It needs audio too. I love my birdsy live feed videos. With this, the depth of field is shallow up close. I like it as a cheap and basic option. I have yet to beat a DSLR with sensors or GoPro with macros though. I currently have this Wingscapes camera connected to a solar panel and it’s been working well on battery life.
I think this was their attempt to re-enter the trail camera market. The parent company is Moultrie, so they have the ability to build on this model if people show interest. The original camera Wingscapes made was huge, had the dial, and a laser pointer. And it used D-cells.

@@inpursuitofbirds If we could have the best video quality Browning can offer with the high specs of Campark and close focus of GardePro we might have a camera we can simply put out and turn on and get the results we want, without all of this hacking and measuring. That's what I hope for and I know many others in the birding community do to. Even the Bushnell NatureView HD Max trail cam with it's interchangeable close focus lenses recorded full HD video with audio and had a cabled remote for 'live view' and that was 10 years ago. This is old technology, sorry to say.
With the GoPro I assume you installed the firmware for motion detection. If so, does it work well ?
