Trying to decide on my next project. I enjoy using GoPros, but they don’t have a lot of telephoto options. I thought of making a wildlife film fully on iPhone. Still letting the ideas simmer. @GoPro #hero12

Seeing the Baby Osprey Clearly for the First Time!

Used the #digiscope to the first real good look at the osprey baby for the first time since the parents nested. It is over 90° F here. Amazing how the parent provides shade as the both have their mouths open trying to stay cool. This was such a great experience to watch this family. Isn’t nature amazing? #birds #digiscoping #osprey #vortexoptics

Such a great display of the northern lights last night. While I was out the ISS made a pass overhead. I can only imagine the view from their vantage point. While a GoPro isn’t a great camera at night footage, this is the exception to that rule. @gopro #nightlapse #aurora #northernlights

We have a visitor in our home 🐀this is a great idea I never knew existed with my GoPro 10. I will set it up to catch where the little gits are getting in. 👍
Sounds like a great application. Only problem is your limited by battery life. Add an external battery and you will be set.
Hi, was hoping to plug it in to mains and use it that way. It will be indoors. 👍
How is the Price?
Price is $249 USD. Same price as a Haikubox, but without an annual subscription ($59). This has some better features if you go out on trails or just want to set up remotely. Then just download all the telemetry and data from the BirdWeather when you get home. That is a cool feature to me. BirdWeather at this point seems more accurate too.
What size do you recommend for the 12 x 50 diamondback binos?
I would go large. I like having the extra inch so the eye cups can stay extended. I have razor 10x42 and it is a nice fit in the large vs the smaller size.
@@inpursuitofbirds thank you!
I like the way they bob their heads. They also kinda sound like they're doing a little song together.
Yeah it was kind of like they were trying to sync up.
@@inpursuitofbirds Birds are cool like that.
can this give you live bird updates? I mean in the moment on the app?
Yes, if it is connected to WiFi it will do the live updates.
@@inpursuitofbirds Got it yesterday and it's pretty cool, roughly how long do the batteries last? Put fresh double a's in and it's draining them pretty good.
Question... the website says it uses a uSD card. Is it a standard SD or MicroSD card slot and can you use any brand. Also... how long can it be deployed before batteries drain?
It is a microSD card. Batteries last pretty short. There are settings to get the most out of your battery life. However, I plug into a USB-C battery pack and get a lot of time on deployments. Hope that helps. I will see if I can find the battery chart. The company tested lithium and Amazon alkaline batteries.
Where is this?
Where is this? Please add context.
Montana.
:(((
How long does your battery last while doing this?
Depends on how much activity and different settings. I’ve never gone beyond 30 to 45 minutes, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t. I just know how much of a battery hog GoPros are and shit down my setup before the battery dies. If there is no rain in the forecast, you could always go with an external battery pack or the Volta.
@@inpursuitofbirds interesting! Thanks for the response. I might try this out!
Thank you for the video review!!!
Thank you for watching. I am still using this bag regularly on flights. It’s still a favorite bag of mine.
Preening away! Got to take care of them feathers.

@@inpursuitofbirds my pleasure
I am considering getting one. Just curious, do have a recommendation for small bird watching/finding binoculars I can take on a hike or when I am mtbing?
I have two recommendations that are budget-friendly and small. I’ll say a pair of Vortex Diamondbacks are good and lightweight for what you pay. Another up and coming bino brand is Nocs Provisions. These are compact but still sharp, and inexpensive. Nocs are about $100 USD for the starter pair and Diamondback HD will be about $250, or $200 if you find a sale. Of course the more you spend the clearer the glass makes the picture. Keep magnification to x8 or x10. Light also plays a factor. The bigger the front lens the more light you get to your eye. I think you have inspired me to make a video comparing Nocs and Diamondbacks.
Perfect! Thank you.
Anytime. I hope that helps. I would definitely recommend going to REI or other sporting goods store to give either pair a try-out.
Followed everything , updated camera, installed QR Control app, created QR code as illustrated , saved. MY Go Pro 9 does not read the QR code... no check mark. Tried numerous times.
Got it. Initially I just did a plain Go Pro update but after also downloading the Labs update I got a check mark. First attempt nothing was recorded despite birds observed at the feeder. Now trying a second attempt.
Yeah you know labs is installed because it shows up on the back screen as GoProLabs. So did you get the QR code to work right?
Where is this please?
It is a slough in the Flathead Valley of northwestern Montana.
I can't for the life of me get it to repeat. It will take the one photo and then not actually trigger again.
In the QR control app is the slider moved to repeat?
What size for 10x42 binos
So I had originally purchased the Small sized Recon, it worked well for the 10x42 Vortex Diamondbacks. When I went with the Vortex Razor HD, it was very tight. I ended up getting the large and it has been perfect. It’s a better all around size for my needs. What kind of bins you carrying?
@@inpursuitofbirds leupold bx5 santiam 10x42 is what I have! So ur new binos the vortex razer hd are 10x 42? and the small doesn’t work for them?
Yeah it was tight to get the lid over top on the small. The difference between small and large is an inch in height. If you have twist out eyecups, you might like having that inch so you don’t have to spin out the eyecups each time.
How big a pig egg you think I could fit in that pouch
2 liters, maybe 3 if you don’t care if it’s not flat laying. Just an estimate though. 12x6x3 roughly.
Wow this is an awesome feature. Thanks
Would be realy cool if it could be charged with a solar panel
You probably could add a battery bank into the equation. Something like a goal zero Guide Kit
Nice review! It's just "Canada Goose" though
I have had over 1000 black capped chickadees this weekend, and it’s been able to discern between mountain chickadees and black-capped. It seems to be picking up and identifying a lot of different species accurately with a few likely misidentifications. But overall, still amazingly accurate.
Can it pick up bats?
I don’t know about bats. I don’t have many around where I live, and at this time of year I don’t spend much time out at night. The system uses birdnet, so I don’t know what frequency range that uses vs a bat.
I will be recording in remote areas where there is no signal so an SD card will handy
It has the sd card built in under the batteries. So once you get back to service it can upload, parse, and identify.
Thank you.
Thanks for the review! Stumbled across the birdweather puc and thought it would make a great addition to the tool set. I run an outdoor school on the west coast of canada - any idea how the waterproofing holds up to inclement weather? Cheers.
That’s a good question. I sent your question to the company. The microphones are on the top and small little divots, so I could see an issue. You can side mount it and it might do better. I will let you know when I hear something. Otherwise I would leave it under cover for safety.
Great, thanks so much for the insight! @@inpursuitofbirds
Here’s what I got from the company: “The PUC is quite weatherproof. We’re still waiting on an official rating (thus not posted) but I’ve had no reported issues through the last 2months after shipping nearly 1000 PUCs worldwide. Been a wet winter in California!”
Thanks for your report, can you tell anything about battery life? How long does the puc record without recharging? Thanks!
@@jonmaus320I have used Energizer Ultimate Lithium that work well in cold weather. I have not tracked the charge longevity but my guess is 15-20 hrs., possibly more. The company recommends a rechargeable AA battery from Amazon called CZVV 3500 mWh, model J818. I bough a charger and 2 extra sets of batteries. I think I paid about $50. The other option for longer run time is using a power bank, a small 10K mAh costs about $25. The longest continuous session i have recorded bird songs was 16 hours.
Thanks for the step by step! Didn't know you can do this! 💯💯❤❤
Thanks for watching. This is just the tip of the iceberg for all GoProLabs can do. Have fun with it!
I like the concept of the Wingscapes Birdcam with it's compact size and adjustable close-focus lens, but I think it's about time they: 1. Upgrade the video specs to record full HD (1080p@30fps) at least, with audio and extend the clip duration up to 1 minute. Without sound you are only telling half of the story. 2. Incorporate Wifi with a phone app for 'live view' so that the subject can be properly framed and recording can be initiated remotely. Not to mention 'calibrating' the 'minimum focus distance' at the different settings - according to this review the markings on the lens dial are not accurate.
I agree with your comments on the video spec upgrade. It needs audio too. I love my birdsy live feed videos. With this, the depth of field is shallow up close. I like it as a cheap and basic option. I have yet to beat a DSLR with sensors or GoPro with macros though. I currently have this Wingscapes camera connected to a solar panel and it’s been working well on battery life. I think this was their attempt to re-enter the trail camera market. The parent company is Moultrie, so they have the ability to build on this model if people show interest. The original camera Wingscapes made was huge, had the dial, and a laser pointer. And it used D-cells.
@@inpursuitofbirds If we could have the best video quality Browning can offer with the high specs of Campark and close focus of GardePro we might have a camera we can simply put out and turn on and get the results we want, without all of this hacking and measuring. That's what I hope for and I know many others in the birding community do to. Even the Bushnell NatureView HD Max trail cam with it's interchangeable close focus lenses recorded full HD video with audio and had a cabled remote for 'live view' and that was 10 years ago. This is old technology, sorry to say. With the GoPro I assume you installed the firmware for motion detection. If so, does it work well ?
Nice review and video. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you all the best 😊
Thank you so much 😊
You just run it through the molle? Saw no buckle attachments.
Yes. It is all molle woven. It has held well so far.
Wow!! What a review!! Thanks for showing us some love, we are so glad to hear you love our BirdCam as much as we do. Enjoy!😊
You guys figured out what the birding community needed. So thanks to you!
Thanks man. I just bought that exact same lens set for my first camera. Got a solar powered one.
Very cool. I wish you much success with it. What kind of camera did you pick up?
@@inpursuitofbirds I think it's a Campark. No name but has a number. It's a solar powered unit. How good are these lenses supposed to be? How's the quality of your photos/videos with the Browning? I paid $60 for this. Thanks for the reply.
They will do well. Just have to find that “sweet spot” in the focus area.
Thank you for sharing!
I've been trying to think what to do with my bino harness molly harness in the back and that would be amazing. Since I wear my final harness on every hunt I would always have water handy.
It says 3 liter bladder in the description, but I only had a Osprey 1.5 liter and a Eberlestock two liter to try. Two liter was a good fit. Camelbaks were too long.
I've been using the Vivitar Macro/Close-up filters (37mm) on my Campark T100 trail cam for recording birds on my feeders at close range. To attach the filters to the camera I use a 25-37mm step ring which just fits snugly over the lens housing. I'm pleased with the results. Posted a number of videos on my channel.
I can’t remember if it is a campark or not, but I cracked one open and adjusted the lens to be within 16 inches. It took a long time to dial in the exact focal point.
@@inpursuitofbirds I don't know about adjusting the camera lens itself - is that possible ? In my preliminary tests, using printed resolution charts as the target, I found minimum the focus distance (for sharp focus) of the T100 lens to be around 22", which works well for large birds (like a Pileated Woodpecker). Add-on Macro/Close-up filters allow you to get closer but the expense of a narrower depth of field - and more 'barrel distortion' of course. In my tests, the working of ranges of the Vivitar filters are around 15"- 28" with the +1 , around 11-20" with the +2" and just 7-10" with the +4. Mostly I use the +2 filter.
@@BryWorYT you can, you have to crack open the case taking screws loose and adjusting the lens on the barrel. It’s hard to get dialed in though because you have to reassemble the camera each time. And the connections are done cheaply, so it takes a gentle hand.
@@inpursuitofbirds Interesting, but I don't think I'd try it myself. The +1 macro filter works well for bringing the focus distance down to around 15"
@@BryWorYT I hear ya, that’s the same I use on my browning cameras.
