    Nice, hopefully there's a road to trail transfer of the PEBAX to their next trail racers, with lower lugs: imagine that. Great review

    I recently bought and ran my first 6 miles in this shoe, wow! I loved the ride, that extra width in the toe box felt soooo nice. Great video, even though I relatively new to this channel, the quality and reviews are outstanding!

    Absolutely fabulous shoe- thanks for the review! I have a smidge of heel slip when accelerating quickly, but no issue once up to speed. That is only when sprinting. Otherwise a wide, PEBA, low drop, feather-light trainer: what’s not to love?

      I realize both shoes are not Pebax midsoled, but would either Puma Nitro Velocity 2 or Under Armour Flow Velociti Wind 2 ride similarly? I enjoy both shoes rides and fit, and I have a pair of the Cyclone 2's en route to me.

    Thanks for the detailed review. Curious why you avoided comparing it to the NB Rebel 2/3 (which it appears to be a clone of) but instead stretched to compare it to the Infinity (which is in a completely diff class)

    Thx much for the review. I’ve had the cyclone since day 1 on the topo website. Probably the most natural feeling shoe I’ve worn in 40+ yrs., and, so impressed w/ those features that make it so: heel bevel, slight midsole flare, wider forefoot, etc. Actually, the last itself reminds me of the semi-curved ones of the 80s. My hyperion tempos are collecting some dust these days!

    Thanks very much for the comprehensive review - really appreciate it. I haven't tried this shoe but I'm a fan of Topo - the finish and overall quality is up there with the best. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on a comparison between these and the Streakfly, which I love and believe share a lot of the same qualities (apart from the toebox and durability). I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

      I have found the Cyclone 2 to be much more versatile than Streakfly. Streakfly has very minimal rocker geometry, which makes it feel like a combination between a slipper and an old school racing flat. I have used it extensively for workouts from mile to LT pace, and it is fine for all of these, but where it really shines are hill sprints (due to the flexible forefoot and lack of forefoot rocker). For everything else, I prefer Cyclone 2 because of the late toe spring and more structured feeling. If you’re going to buy one of these shoes, you will probably get more use out of Cyclone 2.

    Need to find a good option for a 50 mile gravel race

  • @tito_jay_m

    Is the foam so soft that over pronators would have trouble with it? Something like the zoom x on the invincibles?

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a very neutral shoe, so people who pronate too much or too quickly may find Cyclone 2 too unstable for their needs.

    Nice review. Thanks! Would you use this to run a half marathon? If not, is there a Topo shoe that you prefer for a half marathon?

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally would use a super shoe for a half (prefer Alphafly 1 or Vaporfly 3), but if I was going to use a non plated shoe this would be a good option (as long as the flexible forefoot doesn’t bother you for that distance). For a similar ride but stiffer forefoot I would recommend the Topo Specter or Brooks Hyperion Max.

    Love this shoe!! Sadly by 100-150 miles mine are complete garbage. Sidewall blow out and bottom rubber sole peeling off. I am on pair number 4. Awesome shoe but I hate the disposable nature of it.

    I do not get why they are so rigid around the head of toes as a trail shoe would be. It's hurt after long run. What do you think?

  • @stenblann9784

    Wondered if shoe is comparable to Puma Nitro Velocity 2 or UA Velociti Wind 2 as far as ride? I realize Puma's Nitro foam and UA's olefin? midsoles are not Pebax. I have a pair of Cyclone 2 in route to me as I type.

    Thanks for the review. The shoe doesn’t look like it has much volume and also looks quite low in the rear. Amy comments / issues you could imagine for someone with a high arch?

    • @weuek
      @weuek ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a lot of volume. So much that I have to use 2 insoles to fill up the space. But Im rather underwhelmed by its performance-much worse than Saucony Speed.

    Any Altra Escalante Racer users tried the Cyclone 2 yet? How do they compare?

    • @epicures6
      @epicures6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's been a few years since I've run in the Escalante Racer, but going off memory, I think the Cyclone 2 is a significant upgrade (at least for me). Cyclone 2 is much springier and doesn't beat up my feet as much as the Escalante Racer. It seems faster, is more comfortable, and has probably the best upper I've ever come across. I was a fan of the Escalante Racer when it first came out compared to what else was available then, but at this point I wouldn't look back. Cyclone 2 is phenomenally versatile!

    This sounds like a really interesting shoe. Feather weight. Low stack. PEBA midsole. No plate. Sounds amazing. But Topo shoes are known for super wide toe box. That means a lot of lateral shifting/sliding around which gives me terrible blisters. Unfortunate. Would've loved to give this shoe brand a try.

    • @gregprevite8548
      @gregprevite8548 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mid foot on the shoe is really well held. Not sloppy at all. I can run in these all day(literally) with no blisters at all. Definitely worth a try

  • @JanSuchomel
    @JanSuchomel ปีที่แล้ว

    I had 2 problems with Cyclone 1.
    1. Heel counter made blisters.
    2. Arch support was biting my feet. This never happened with any other shoe from Topo. I think Cyclone 1 was too narrow in the midfoot for me.
    From the review I get that hell counter is now ok. What about the arch support or midfoot width comparing to Cyclone 1. Is there some change or is it the same?

  • @chalequin
    @chalequin ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think at 300 miles it’ll wear out or lose the sole springiness?

    • @marer402
      @marer402 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I am also curious as to why you think you will only get 300 miles out of the shoe, when after 212 miles you still think the midsole feels as poppy as it did on day one and the outsole looks more dirty than actually worn down?

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I suspect the exposed midsole in the midfoot will wear out before the resilience of the midsole material. I will do a 300 mile update and let you know!

    • @BradEinhorn
      @BradEinhorn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ammyers56 have you gotten to 300 in these? I have about 375mi on mine and they still feel great! just ordered another pair but wouldn't be surpised if they get to 450 comfrotably.

    • @ammyers56
      @ammyers56 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BradEinhorn I’m at 260 miles now (haven’t put a lot of miles on them since this video due to testing other shoes). They still feel good, although the cushioning in the forefoot is starting to feel a little flatter than before. The exposed midsole is looking a little more worn after a couple of runs on gravel, but not to the point where it affects the ride. I am going to order a new pair to compare! Glad you are getting so many miles out of yours!
