Thanks Barry. A very interesting chap! It was lovely to meet up with you. Looking forward to catching up again along the way. Don't forget our workshop is always there for you and we'll show you the highlights of the Whitsundays. W.
What a great interview. I love Barry and follow religiously. So great when friends meet up. Birds of a feather. So because of this wonderful interview I am now following you guys! Great job!
Barry is such a natural comedian and thoroughly likeable bloke. His remark "I could have swam it" instantly evoked a mental image of him in the water towing his beloved White Shadow which I very much doubt he would abandon lightly. I imagined the tow line attached to his PFD and long plastic tubes leading from either corner of his mouth back to large plastic drums containing his tea and beer rations standing on the fo'c'sl.
Brave, fun, emphatic guy. Barry`s videos are a joy. They gives you the sense of adventure , calmly and gracefully. A great salute and a long life. From CHILE a fun of you
Your observation about a fart in the Falklands is so true...We had an engine failure (corroded oil cooler leaking engine oil into the raw water system and out the back) - at a point as far from a port as you can get in Mexico. It took us about a week to limp into a Port (Huatulco) and by the time we got there it seems as if every cruiser in Mexico knew of our story :).
So nice you hooked up with Barry ( another great channel to follow). You two are looking amazing and obviously enjoying your adventure. We have just enjoyed a week on the Llangollen a beautiful canal you must visit in the future. Love and best wishes to you both
Bloody ripper of a Vid Barry's crossing of the Pacific is nearly enough to put anyone off from doing it. 72 plus days is one hell of an effort on his part.....Fair winds to you all, Keep Safe
A couple of points- NEVER get rid of a Yahama outboard mine is over 20. You can make coconut flakes into potato like chips, a little oils salt and bake.
This is absolutely the best episode because of the great interview with Barry. I was up to date with his vlogs but it still brought tears to my eyes (who says Germans have no feelings) to hear his story as told to you. The bond between sailors is unspoken but runs deep. You are all in great company.
So nice to finally hit this video on your channel. It was from watching Barry that I found you and have been working my way thru your vids. Cheers to the both of you!
I enjoy the connections made with other cruisers. Makes it more real for those of us stuck on the hard. I feel the community, even though I may never become part of it. Good job.
Good on ya for popping in to see Barry, yip 71 days solo is an epic, RESPECT, enjoyed this episode very much. Good work and reiterates the great sense of community and friendship amongst cruising boats and their respective crews, Finding Avalon rescued a boat with a broken inner shroud and gave them spare rigging via a surfboard in the mid Pacific Great to see
We really enjoyed Barry's company and shared stories. The cruising community is surprisingly small. We hope to catch up with him again along the way. W.
Good to see you and the Old SeaDog. He did have many worried. I recently had all my kids worried when I sailed across the Sea of Cortez solo in my F28R. Had a great time. Only difference between me and Berry was I was doing 12kt.
Very very good video! Great story! Much enjoyment! Barry, I must bust your chops mate you should not be going to sea with your ship ill repaired ! Get the hull scraped and painted! Repair the forestay pin and other rigging. Get that boat cracking! You know these things better than I.
Great to see you met, have been following you both since you both started, have an interest in Barry, as I am a Devon boy Bideford/Appledore area, and he is Fromm Plymouth, it's a bit close to Cornwall but we don't hold it against him, ;-)
Barry’s Epic voyage going down in the Antilles of History as you say, “IS” the Longest one I know of to date ... 13:35... Not a Lear Jet, the plane the found Barry was a French made Desault Falcon 20, bigger and sturdier than the Lear... 🛬🛫. 19:30. 🕢 And yours (Nutshells) is the shortest...!!

I watch both your channels and it was good to see the meetup. When travelling I often ran into others I had met along the way. A small world in some respects. Great voyaging you two.
Hi Doug. It certainly is a small world. We keep bumping into the same boats along the route. It's wonderful to make new friends and share stories and experiences. W.
I often refer to WD40 as 'miracle fluid' fantastic stuff! I worked with an electrician back in the 80's who rarely attempted to repair or replace anything without first giving it a shot or two of 'old miracle'.
I'll bet Bazza was dead chuffed when you binned the pizza restaurant for a fish dinner. He hates fish. Funniest thing I've seen in ages, great interview with Barry. Can't help but admire the old bugger.
Hi Mark. We were actually expecting pizza. We walked to the end of the bay for the best pizza in town only to find that the pizza chef had gone walkabout! W.
In Barry's last video (to which I also subscribe) I saw Nutshell out the back of his boat in his video and as he had been talking about his damaged sail I suggested he introduce himself to you both as I know you can also do sail repairs (it was a seam) but too late, he had already met you both and told me the interview/meeting was coming up on your next video, so you are right , whilst I am not part of the actual boating community as such, (we are tied to our dairy farm) the jungle drums are very live and active as you had just met up :) Magic :)
Well any friend of Berrys is a friend of mine ! Glad you meet him . Subbed you channel and will check your sailing travels. Fair winds from Around Seattle out!
I don't know what you are doing now because I'm only on this episode. You may not even be sailing! But I wanted to mention something to you. I bought a certain kind of pliers that Magnus mentioned and I love them. I know other bloggers do this. If you guys could make a deal with Amazon so that when someone from your site purchases that product you get a percentage of the sale. There are SO many tools and things Magnus uses and has favorites, if you put them all in one place you could get extra money for your adventures. I for one would like to know every tool he has!
Hi Karen. That’s a good tip. I try and keep my tools to the absolute minimum on the boat. It’s so much fun making do with what you have. I have a full workshop at home and can make most things but I enjoy the challenge on the boat. Cheers
For our coconut scavenging I have a old 12mm Hole Saw Bit, l rigged up with a old Socket Spanner as my no mess Coconut tool of choice for when we go ashore exploring etc ,makes a handy hole for getting juice out and adding other good stuff in.They were both just old tools from my kit and sit in the shore explore back pack ready to go, best $2 bit of kit on the boat. That scenery sure does bring back good memories of our time cruising around the SP we spent 20 days there ,we did some great dives/spear fishing just around the corner from where you anchored on a old WW2 wreck and Okiky Reef .Did you try any of the local Kava ?l found their variety far better than what we have in OZ or PNG.Happy Cruis'n
Excellent posting! Great that we all were able to join you for some good laughs and great stories! The Old Sea Dog, Barry, is a true treasure and I hope you do indeed meet up again!
Seems like a perfectly nice guy, that Barry. Glad all are well. M, I noticed a swift drop in your arm as the two smaller diesel canisters were handed down to you...and then we didn't get to see the larger one being loaded. That stuff is heavy, didn't rip anything out did we? :)
Thanks for the Happy Barry footage! I've spent much of my afternoon off tearing into Y-Tube commenters who couldn't find enough awful, ignorant things to say about Barry. Can't have that can we? ;-) You've got a new subscriber! Oh yeah, your mention of The Whitsundays (and your coconut skills) reminded me of the Free Range Sailing channel, also out of Oz.. G'day :-)
