- I started looking for a DRZ400 because Morgan and I are planning a long distance road trip/overlanding trip out in the western part of the US. I wanted to have a back up vehicle just in case and also keep up some motorcycle content while we are on the trip! I bought the bike for $2400 which is a STEAL for a drz400 in this condition (or so I thought) turns out theres a weird knocking sound only when you blip the throttle, other than that it runs great! I still have to figure out where the knocking sound is coming from.

Yeah as @bazz69 commented, you probably need to clean the carburetor, clogged jet can make it run like crap and produce knocking sounds. old gas usually equals a carb clean. I own a 2005 DRZ-400s and I’ve cleaned the carb several times if it sits to long, before winter comes I put non-ethanol gas in it, because it will last longer. waiting for an update on the progress. Thanks for sharing your purchase.
Check the tensioner jimmy
I have one and I agree with others.. Cam Chain tensioner. Give us an update when you find out
Thanks for sharing the process even though there’s a still a question mark hanging out there. Waiting on your next videos!
Truck build videos are more than welcome, your craftsmanship and skills are top notch and any of your work on any kind of vehicle will be awesome to share with the viewers!
I'm sure you already know this, but make sure you add case savers before riding off road. The brake lever and gear shift are known to puncture right through on a fall.
I’ll definitely have to pick some up👍
Thank you for including the part with your wife, that was great😂
Glad it was entertaining!

That sounds like your timing chain may be slapping a tiny bit when you blip it.
Doesn’t sound like Timing chain slap but I got a manual chain tensioner just to rule it out!
Clean the carburetor out might be a blocked jet ......with that bad petrol you took out of it ...Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestion, I might do it but the reason I don’t think that’s the reason because it runs amazing while you’re riding it.
@@Benjamminoutdoors hope you get it too run right.i would have a look at the jets 10 minutes of your time plus you then know its not them.all the best Barry.
@@bazz69 yeah it definitely wouldn’t hurt to clean them regardless.
I've been told you can't get an accurate compression test on motors like that because of the auto decompression .
That’s why I used a leak down test after I did the compression check.
Yellow anytime
My guess is timing chain tension/tensioner
It’s not the timing chain already tried a manual tensioner
Nice bike
Dude just rebuild the engine.
Can be the fuel pump is clogged 😮
This bike has a carburetor, so it doesn’t have a fuel pump.
CHECK THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER FOR KNOCK WHEN REVVING
I ordered one already👌 I’d love it if that’s all it is.
you're a smart dude you'll figure it out. these bikes tend to run a bit noisy keep that in mind. love ur work@@Benjamminoutdoors
