I feel like there are a few details he didn't specifically talk about that really helped me learn in the past learn this technique. 1) It's much easier to blend applying a dark color second and mixing into the light color. 2) Don't apply the tones on top of one another, but next to eachother, then blend them in the middle with the brush after wiping it off. 3) A good workflow is to use this technique to make an initial blend, then adjust with glazes, you see him doing this as much as wet blending in the vid.
Yeah I find I need to wipe the paint off the brush when I want to blend the two colours together. If I'm constantly adding more paint, the paints don't blend very well.
dude THANK YOU. I had watched six or seven other wet blending videos and no one else had just slammed paint on the mini like you did. I thought i was doing something wrong or just had no idea what i was doin g until you explained, "you need a lot of paint so it stays wet" i thought i needed to use water to smear it across the different colors. Thank you again
This was really instructive. We hear all the time that we HAVE TO THIN OUR PAINTS, and we beginners start to do it without much thought... This video shows us that sometimes, thick paint can be used to our advantage. Thanks a lot!
This video is deceptive about that. It's better to NOT have "thick paint", but rather paint mixed with a small amount of medium, and a little drying retarder. This lets you NOT clog up all the detail with thick layers, and while it LOOKS thick, it dries thinner than 'pure paint'.
Your signature style is my most favorite in the hobby. Any tutorial video you make is appreciated because your techniques produce the most satisfying results. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!
Hey Angel, Thanks for this great video again. Now I know my mistakes. 🙈 I'd love to see more about blending techniques also on layers. Also looking forward to the colour theory videos! 😊
Asking again; What type of ventilation do you have in the room you are painting this? Is it mechanical to-and-from, mechanical from, or just simple self draft? Also, are you in a basement? Finally, what is the air humidity and temperature when this is filmed?
Thank you, really helpful tutorial. I hope you will make more tuts about color picking because this technique in my opinion requires color knowledge and good work flow. Btw the blur blending effect is another good topic. But fearless mind after all is a strong recommendation 👍🏻
The probs I have is blending small areas. I’d be world champion if I had areas like the belly, but I’d love the see arms and legs on smaller models like zombicide characters.
Thank you! Love this one! I'd love some more videos to learn how to paint like in your time lapses, and focusing on good results, but not necessarily perfect.
I use this technique when I record timelapse videos because this technique is really fast. I don't worry about to getting a good blending, I just paint for fun🤗
Very cool video! I don't really wet blend often since I mostly paint for fun and not for gaming or many models at a time. Still though, wet blending can be really useful for me, even for some smoother terrain bits etc.
Would definitely like to see more on this technique, especially any considerations for models smaller than the stormcast. It would also help to zoom even more on palette and get better idea of the paint thickness for each step, maybe running the brush along the palette to show the different oaint thicknesses from another angle. I think there's a huge number of us who would love to learn how to paint like your time lapse videos, heh.
Thanks for the suggestions. I like this idea "the paint thickness for each step, maybe running the brush along the palette to show the different oaint thicknesses from another angle"
The part where you used the red ink was interesting. Could you do a whole video about painting with inks? Or a demonstration on what can inks be used for?
My question is; how do you avoid brush strokes showing in the paint with such thick layers? Thank you for showing us a good overview of this technique!
What is the size of the mini you are painting? What size brushes are you using? Thank you so much for the wonderful video!!! Seeing the mix and saturation levels on your pallet really helps!
Would love videos on getting perfect blends especially on small surfaces, this video is great but troggs and capes are both large :) Also are you going to do the snow basing from the last NMM video?
Thanks! Great as always! If match painting the same miniatures with airbrush and wet blending way would they looking like each other? Is this technique can replace each other or they looking different? What will you recommend where and when which of these ways using?
New painter here! You use very thick paints here for this blending, and I see why. Every time I read about painting, I am always told to do it in thin, watered down layers, because thick layers obscure details and can be streaky. How do you deal with these issues (obscuring details and streaks) when you're using thick coats for blending?
Good question. I use thick layers when I want to apply this technique, so you don’t cover details; what you have to do is refine the paint as the layers are thinner.
Instead of using thick layers of paint, just use some retarder to slow down drying time, and increase working time. You dont need thick layers of paint that will mask details on your minis.
I was really enjoying it then this music started blasting out so i couldn't hear what was being said ... was great up until the 20 minute mark .. lol .
Hi Angel, I am looking to copy a black/blue wet blend for warhammer skinks that are on the back of box art, cant find anyone showing this wet blend. Is this likely to be done the same way? Just not sure about blending to Black.
Yes, the process is the same. Just check the example number 1 (in the video) and mix two colors (dark green and flesh tone). You should do the same with blue and black, trying to copy what i do in the video 🤗
@@AngelGiraldeZ Thanks man, you make it all look so easy i hope I can do it correctly. Any thoughts on trying to do this step in a mass process. Like doing 5 to 10. Was debating about using a airbrush for base layer then black wet blend on 1 model but doing this in succession.
Lol, why on earth did the music get so loud near the end? Gotta work on that editing! Other than that this was awesome. Inspired me to smudge big gloops of paint on my flesh eater courts tonight!
He keeps saying "It's like painting with oils" as if wargamers/mini painters have any sort of a background in working with oil paints. That makes the video come off a little bit like the "draw the rest of the eye" meme.
I’m a miniature painter and have a background in painting with oils. Not sure though if his reference to oil paint diminishes the value of this tutorial in any way.

important details but who cares about that in a tutorial right ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for watching!!!!🤗
You made the wet blending process very clear, thank you.
I learned more in this one video than I did in 4 other videos that I had watched about wet blending...Thank YOU !!!!
Thanks Richard :)
definitely interested in videos about getting perfect blends
This was great to watch. The techniques were easy to follow. Thanks Angel.
Since you mention it, i would love a layered blending technique video thanks Angel.
Man, this looks stunning. Always appreciate your work, Angel.
Good video, as usual. Yes, I would like some videos about colors and blending too. Thanks!
Great video as always Angel! Did you already do a specific video about how to use inks? I would love to watch that!!
Hola, would love to see more wet blending videos. And everything else that you post. I can't thank you enough for your painting vids.
Please do a lYERING VERSION
I Pont lrger scale pieces..My lesson from you will be to work w airbrush, then go in with wet blends
Thank you for all you do. Its helped me a great deal as new painter. I cant wait to try this put on the trolls I just got.
Great tutorial - as always! ...video with examples of smooth blending will be very appreciated !

Thank you so much! I finally got the right hint for my Slaanesh-project.
Great video, would really like to see more videos on wet blending and layering like this up to intermediate and advanced please.
That desk is crazy..I have mine table high as you advise, but can only imaging having your adjustable one..
Very cool video! I don't really wet blend often since I mostly paint for fun and not for gaming or many models at a time.
Still though, wet blending can be really useful for me, even for some smoother terrain bits etc.
More videos on the perfect blend? Yes please!
I’d love the layering to blend video as well! This was very helpful
Great video Angel, thank you! You blew my mind with adding orange to the mix for the shadow. More on colour theory please! :D
excelente video, super bien explicado!! adoro esa tecnica y si podrias hacer una de layering seria fantastico
Love your videos Angel 👍. By the way, your books are great, helped me a lot to improve my painting.
Glad to hear that!, thanks :)

as always awesome video. Can't wait for perfect blend technique 😁
My question is; how do you avoid brush strokes showing in the paint with such thick layers? Thank you for showing us a good overview of this technique!
I "move" the layers quickly so I avoid brush strokes. If you mix the colors slowly you will get a bad wet blending
Defiantly would like a video about layering/blending it would be so informative in you excellent style of presentation.
What is the size of the mini you are painting? What size brushes are you using? Thank you so much for the wonderful video!!! Seeing the mix and saturation levels on your pallet really helps!
The troll is around 45/50 mm and the stormcast is 32mm and my brushes are n2 and n1 fron Artis Opus
@@AngelGiraldeZ As always, thank you so much for the reply! Super helpful info!
Love the English dubs man, thank you!!
Thank you! 🤩
Large pallette video is really helpful! I'm bet others do like this soon.😏
Can you demonstrate all the common painting tech used by figure painter and do a comparison in a video, thanks
yes, good idea
Habrá que probarlo!
Uy! que bien, con las ganas que tenía yo de aprender a "WET BLENDEAR" bien, que siempre me quedan cerquillos 😜
Hey guy
Perfect ... as usual 😉
Thanks 👍🏻

I'll record more videos about that 😄.
Yes, I'll do that but first I have to finish the miniature
Thanks! Great as always!

What sized brush are you using. I'm looking for a brush that holds enough paint to do these techniques.
Please do layering blending technique.
great vid as always man. GJ

Do a vdo about perfect blend please :D
Do you have every single Vallejo color?
Está en venta la mini?
Angel,
what is the secret for thick covers don't cover the details of the miniatures?
"Brush movement", when you apply the paint on the surface then you have to "move" the paint so don't cover the fine details
I think the music at nearly the end (when highlighting the cape) was way too high, it drowns out the narration a bit
Hi, can You make video tutorial with CB Infinity minis?
Maybe🙃
Instead of using thick layers of paint, just use some retarder to slow down drying time, and increase working time. You dont need thick layers of paint that will mask details on your minis.

Angel Giraldez method of blending:
Step 1: JUST DO IT
Step 2: NO BALLS
Perfect blends please!
Angel, what about paint retarder, flow aid, thinner?
You put my paint rack to shame.
Nice video, though there was some loud music near the end while you where talking that made it hard to hear.
yes, it was a mistake
13:32 you brush killer!
I really love the video, but the music in the last couple of minutes is quite disturbing. I can't even understand the voice anymore. Best regards
Mark
Hmm won't applying paint thickly ruin the small details

Thanks for the tutorials.

It wasn't very clear to me, was this video for getting a perfect result or just for teaching the technique? :P
I only wanted to explain the technique 😁
Lol, why on earth did the music get so loud near the end? Gotta work on that editing! Other than that this was awesome. Inspired me to smudge big gloops of paint on my flesh eater courts tonight!
I do enjoy the Spanish.
How do you get a perfect blend?
You have to apply layers slowly so you'll get a perfect blend
then now explain how to using dry blending:D
Don't you loose details of the miniature when you apply the color so thick? Cause you just put them on the wet palette without thinning it down.
Nice video!!! Obrigado! Tks!!!
