    Hi Nick, I came from a 1200 GSA to a 1250 GS Exclusive and with no regrets. I changed the standard GS screen to a Puig Touring screen, and actually found the wind noise and protection better than the GSA!! Yes it has a better tank range, but I can get over 200 miles out of my GS, a full tank on a GSA can be an issue when trying to move the GSA around a car park or on an adverse camber. I find the balance of the GS better suited to me, I also think it is a better looking bike ( personal opinion). Whatever you decide to do, good luck and safe riding>

      @@nickhodgeUK Yes Nick the GS is a great machine, but I think it will be my last. I am now 65 and in a couple of years might down size my bike. Top of my wish list at the moment is the Moto Guzzi V85TT.

      + 1 for the Puig touring screen, if you are 6 foot + it's better than the GSA screen.

    I like you brought my r1250gs at the same time, but I haven’t put the amount of miles on as you, mine is just over 3,000. What with the current situation I haven’t put as many miles on it as I would have liked. If I did decided to change I will wait until the 3 year warranty will run out in 2022. I am just in the process of sorting out a slightly bigger screen. I went down the same route regarding panniers and top box, I changed my Givi Trekker ones that I had fitted to the Honda NC750X, just brought a new rack and top box plate when Sportsbikeshop had 10% off. The new pannier rack is also detachable so makes for much easier cleaning or just leave them off if required.
    I think if I changed I would stick with the GS as I don’t want the extra weight of the GSA, I find that I need a break after 220 miles so don’t need the extra mileage anyway. Also I don’t like cleaning wire wheels had enough that with some of the older bikes I have had.
    Best of luck deciding !!

    The Puig Touring windshield is the best of them all. I had the dark smoke on my 1200GS Rallye and now on the black my 1250GS Exclusive. I’m 6’4” and keep the windshield in the lowest setting (even at highway speeds).
    Everyone has their favorite GS. Both bikes are great and each have their own pros/cons. Get it to fit your needs/wants. After owing my 1200GS, I thought I would get the 1250GSA, but the GS fits what I want out of the bike.

    I've been down this rabbit run myself. :-) Currently on my 5th GS. Had the first hexhead for 11 years, then (3 years ago) switched to 1200 GSA, followed by 1200 GS, followed by 1250 GS (Exclusive). A couple of weeks ago, I sold the 1 year old GS1250 back to the supplying dealer (losing £4k on the purchase price) and bought a 2008 GS1200! Basically, having done the whole latest tech / shift-cam, etc, etc over the last 3 years (and fully indulged in the 'new bike day' experience (with all the costs that go with that, e.g. running in servicing, etc), I genuinely missed the 'old school' e.g. 'proper' speedo and rev counter etc and no longer want to be looking at an ipad style TFT screen etc. Buying a new bike generates a fresh 3 year warranty (great, when you consider the cost of repairing all that technology if/when any of it fails!), fresh tyres / brakes, etc, etc, as you acknowledged in the video, but having been down this road big time over the last 3 years (and spent thousands of pounds unnecessarily!), my honest opinion is it's not worth it. But, if the deal is compelling / winning, you only live once! Go for it! Regarding GS versus GSA. You can put the GSA screen on the GS and change the wind deflection dramatically, but in very hot weather, touring around e.g. Portugal / Spain etc in the summer, you will MISS the airflow to the body and especially on the legs! Those huge GSA petrol tanks prevent any wind whatsoever to the crotch / butt. It gets hotter than hell on those things! Also, the additional weight changes the bike's ability to change direction quickly when e.g. trying to avoid a massive pot hole. The GSA just doesn't 'flick' like the GS. You are right however in that it handles the same as the GS on long swooping bends. In some ways the additional weight makes it more planted in fact. The GSA seat height is taller and the seat it's self is slightly wider at the front. For riders below 6 foot, this can make the seat slightly uncomfortable as it is a bit of a stretch to sit astride it compared to the GS (particularly when putting your feet down at stops etc). I think the GSA works best for 6 ft+ riders with the GS better for shorter riders. By the way, on screens, I tried (and preferred) the ultra short 'rallye' screen on both the GS and the GSA. Less is more with screens. Clean air flow (no buffeting) and they look cool (especially the tinted one). Again, better for sub 6 ft riders. Good luck!

    The Adventure:
    Better tank size, (A MAJOR advantage)
    Better wind protection.
    Better road presence.
    Crash bars and some other stuff already fitted.
    Luggage racks.
    Standard GS:
    Lighter. (Very little when fuel, crash bars and some other things are removed from weight difference)
    Lookes better. (A matter of taste)

    Hi Nick, many thanks for the video. As somebody who had a GS and is now on his second GSA, I would like to pass on my thoughts. Like you, I am tall at 6'2" and find that the GSA is better suited to my build; the seat height is also higher than the GS though I have mine on the lower setting. There is no doubt that the GSA has more presence on the road; the bigger tank and fairing, screen, the (excellent) spot lights etc. all combine to give more confidence on the road. The bike feels that you could ride it through a barn door and not feel it! I have the MRA Vario screen, which I originally fitted to my GS and then transferred to my other two bikes; it's an excellent piece of equipment, but all personal of course. I bought the black Bumot cases as they are cheaper than the BMW ones, but still fit the OEM frames. I didn't purchase the Bumot topbox though as it only comes in one size that will not take two helmets; instead I bought the Givi Trekker 58L that does take two helmets, in black so it conforms to the side cases. I also bought the Bumot tool case in the same colour. I have the HP model, but didn't want the gold wheels as (again personal) I don't like the colour; I therefore had the black wheels fitted and this was a no cost option (you might want to check that before forking out an additional £60). When swapping over accessories form the GS to the GSA, there are a couple of things to consider due the differing geometries of the two bikes. You need (if you use one) the appropriate side stand plate as the side stand on the GSA is longer and the wrong one can scratch the frame; the Mudsling will rub against the rear tyre until it has worn down a bit, so I therefore fitted a rear hugger instead that was also a lot cheaper (£30 on eBay). In summary, the GSA suits me better than the GS; I just love this motorcycle. You don't notice the extra weight from the bigger tank when riding ,and on occasion have had nearly 400 miles out of one tank of fuel. I hope this has been useful; whichever way you decide to go, they're both excellent bikes that do so many things, so well. Cheers, Andy

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the detailed answer Andy. What tyres do you have as I think that may be the mudslingers issue as they list some that rub. I have no side stand plate but must get one. I’m pretty sure it’s just my Denali D4’s that need another bracket as the GS one doesn’t fit. I’ll take a look at the side cases and toolbox for sure as there is attraction to using existing frames. Thanks again. Ride safe 👍🏻

    • @andrewtofts7884
      @andrewtofts7884 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nickhodgeUK Hi Nick, the first time I experienced rubbing from the Mudsling was when I fitted Mezeler Tourance Nexts and then when I put Bridgestone A41 Adventures on; the hugger I have on now is (in my opinion) I better option. The Bumot cases are very good indeed; they hinge lengthwise rather than widthwise like the BMW and Givi cases. The design of the hinge allows the lid the stay rigid in various positions - check out this video th-cam.com/video/alYt_rhA7UQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Nick,
    I have my GSA HP for a month now. It is already 2700 km on. With last tank i made 573 km before fill in.
    It is 40 mm higher than the GS, so I can't flat foot, but not so bad.
    For the top case I have installed the GIVI Trekker Outback 58 L, pretty good, for the daily use is great and the bike does not look bad with that big box on the back.
    For side panniers I have the SW-Motech Trax Adventure. Very good quality and you don't need to trow away the BMW frame, since you only need to buy the adapter plates to install the side panniers.
    Each day I enjoy more to ride this motorcycle.
    I can't advise you on what to do, because it is a personal choice you must do. what ever you feel you will love the most and suits you better. Never mind what others say.
    Safe Rides.
    All the best.

    Get what you want brother, it's what life is all about. Why work your whole life if you can't enjoy the benefits? I too will be getting the GSA variant when its time(sooner rather than later would be good)! To me personally, the 1250gsa is the ulitimate tourer as I live in Australia and we have a lot of country to explore. Extra fuel range is a bonus especialy if you head out to the back of beyond and you don't want to carry too much in the way of extra fuel. Comfort, reliability and a decent seat height mean a lot to me these days. Stay safe brother.

    Hi Nick, I’m surprised you don’t feel a difference in the handling. They’re two different bikes with different geometries. The GSA is 20mm higher and a 21mm shorter wheelbase. Hence their steering wheel angle is also different. You’re right, the wind protection is far better and quite bad with the standard GS shield. I ride all year. I just sold my 1 year old GS with 14.000km for the GSA exclusive. I find the suspension more comfy too and I would say it’s like comparing a Range Rover Sport to a Range Rover Vogue 😉 Greetings from Luxembourg

Now the traffic was bad (Friday) so there may be some difference in every small area but it wasn’t noticeable to me. At least not as I had thought. The seat I did notice after I set it Hugh, front, low back same as my GS as I was sooooo slightly off flat feet. Ride safe 👍🏻

    From over 30 years of sports bikes, I went directly to a GSA and am now on my 3rd. I picked up the 1250 less than 2 weeks ago and am loving the GSA way. I initially considered the GS but decided that I wanted the bigger fuel tank as well as the extra items; engine bars, lights, spoked wheels, and bigger presence. Items I’d want to add to a GS, so made sense to get the GSA.
    Re fuel stops, you hit the nail on the head. I don’t mind stopping when other members of the group need to stop to fuel, but it’s nice not have to faff around filling up - gives a chance to just chill for a few minutes. It’s also quite usual for others of the group to comment, along the lines of liking the idea themselves. I also visit family up north and I don’t like stopping, so it’s good to get there in one hit.
    By the way, the GSA rides a tad higher than the GS, so seat height is slightly higher, apart from that they are exactly the same. The GSA is not much heavier than the GS - add engine bars, spots, and a bigger screen to a GS and you’re not far off the GSA.

      The height is interesting. I have standard height frame, suspension, etc (as the test bike). I have my seat high-front, low-back as it slides me away from the tank and into the front of the pillion seat, a bit like a lumbar support. I can plant both feet flat. On the test bike I mirrored that and I was marginally off flat feet both sides so it must be in the seat I guess??? It’s about an inch I reckon? Thanks for comment

    Yes, go for it. I have owned 2 GS and 2 GSA’s. Currently a 1250 GSA. The reasons are:
    1. Range I get 570 km and it is essential if you are ever going to a country where gas is not as easy to get, like Argentina, or for me, going through Northern BC to the Yukon. Also so convenient not to gas up as often as my friends on sport bikes,
    2, Wind protection -as you noted, a big difference. I fitted a Wunderlich screen which is even bigger than stock, but I think I am taller than you.
    3. Road presence. A nice difference.
    4. Resale value. You should get much of the extra cost back when you sell it..
    Yes, go for it.

    Hi Nick
    I have a 1250GSA HP TE and considered changing to a standard GS TE. I took the GS out for the day from my supplying dealer and really enjoyed it. It felt lighter, nimbler and I could flat foot far easier. However. like you I prefer the extra wind protection and the road presence of the GSA. For me the deciding factor in sticking with the GSA is the extra suspension movement which you didn't mention. I spend a lot of the summer months riding in the Alps etc but when not on tour the Yorkshire Dales are my main hunting ground. Some of the roads I spend a lot of time on are awful and the GSA comes into it's own here as it just glides over all the ruts and potholes.
    GSA for me

      @nickhodgeUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike. Thanks for the comment. I thought both really handle certainly road potholes and such beautifully. What I do find with the GSA is that I use the suspension adjustment more than I did on the GSs’ I’ve had which stayed on auto from day 1-end 👍🏻

    It's a definite "no" from me, Nick. I have the MRA vario screen on my R1250GS and (for me) it definitely improves the wind protection by pushing the main force above my helmet. Yes, there is some noise from the sides of the screen but certainly for my use, it's fine.

    Swap it! 😂 Easy to say when it ain’t my money! I test drove both. The GS was lighter due to the gas tank. But I had no problems with the GSA. If you want GSA, go get one. Some reasons are understandable, but to spent less time at filling stations seems to be no reason at all. Especially if you are on the road with a group with some sport bikes with then 1/3 of your fuel range since you would have to wait for them anyway... unless you'd be orbiting the fuel station, while your fellas are filling up.... :-) I will defo stick with my 1250 Exclusive no A... :-) Stay safe and enjoy riding!

    I bought a 1200 GSA Triple Black 2 years ago and love it. Coming from a Yamaha MT10 it was quite a change! Id always liked the GSA having sat on them at bike shows etc but decided to have a test ride on a quiet weekend and it exceeded all my expectations. Found a good deal including black BMW panniers and Nav 6 thrown in and had every option so I snapped it up. When I took mine in for its first service I test road a 1250 GS, thought it was smoother and quicker as a 1250, but really disliked the GS size. I'm not particularly tall at 5.9, but it felt like a toy and just didn't have the 'king of the road' feeling that the GSA gives, both from a feeling of tackling any weather and road but also from being seen. For when I use it to commute, the tank range is great as its 130 mile round trip. Other bikes I had to fill up daily, this I don't which really changes the experience - its not always about tank range in one go for me, but nice to do multiple days riding and not have to worry about finding fuel. The protection and support the bigger tank gives i think makes a difference too. I wont be changing from the GSA, just maybe to a 1250 in the future!

      Many people have commented about the fuel being readily available and they’re right of course but for me it’s one opportunity to do ‘optional’ while others are doing ‘necessary’. Change GoPro batteries, check route, have a drink/eat and not be accused of ‘faffing’. Leave that to those having to stop in every town! 😂👍🏻

    Hi Nick, a really good comparison there and very unbiased. I have a 1250gs TE Rallye which I got in March before lockdown. I nearly went for a dealer approved used Adventure with 3000 on the clock but saved 4k getting mine as an ex-demo with 800miles on it. she'll be one in September, looking back I'm happy with that decision. I'm 6' and have to navigate a cobbled lane with a very big camber and raised manhole cover right outside my garage, I can only just touch the ground with the seat in low going over that. 75% of my riding is with the boss on the back and having firmly planted feet at times is a huge advantage when off-camber at a stop, potholes in car parks etc. The GSA may be a bit too tall, just occasionally. Re the fuel, I agree on a 250kg bike you won't notice the extra but your only going to get through a 20 ltr tank in less than 2 hours on an autobahn! I fitted a MRA Vario screen which stopped all my head buffeting and more importantly for Nicky on the back as well. Touratach lower and upper bars with Denali D2's and S4's give as much road presence as a GSA in my opinion. The Rallye also comes with the bigger footrests, I may get the deflectors shown in one of the other posts though. I thoroughly recommend the Bumot Defender Evo panniers, best made one I have seen and the Frozen Grey colour matches BMW's cylinders. Ridercamtv guys have a good review here th-cam.com/video/BwjEbv9nrog/w-d-xo.html. I got my 2020 GSA HP in February after watching your videos. It’s the best bike I’ve ever had. The gas tank, crash bars and wind deflection features are the obvious advantages over the GS model. But, considering the upgrades you did on your bike, if it was me I wouldn’t swap for the GSA. I think only if the higher tank capacity is what you really want then consider the upgrade.

    I am expecting my new 2021 GS Adventure to be delivered to the dealer in the next 2 weeks and I am looking forward to picking it up. I had the GS and the added peace of mind the extra fuel gives me will be very nice. I have had range anxiety with the GS after being in a near empty situation. In the states we do have roads that can span a large distance without fuel stations. I’ve also had the same problem in Baja. I did get the low suspension option fitted from the factory that brings the seat height in line with the GS.

    • @nickhodgeUK
      @nickhodgeUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Doug. You will notice the difference, not just in range but in weather protection too. On the downside she’s not so nimble as the GS particularly with the tank full. If you struggle with seat height you’ve made a wide choice with the lowered suspension. I’ve a long leg but at 6ft1in the GSA can test it particularly if anything slopes away at a stop. Ride safe 👍🏻

    I just took a test ride on a GSA and it definitely feels a lot smaller on the road compared to when you are sitting on the bike in the showroom. IMO, it's not as nice looking as the GS and I don't need the fuel capacity but the wind and rain protection is undeniable. I'm having a tough time making the decision between the two myself. Clearly down to personal choice and satisfying that niggling itch if its too great. If your std GS doesn't bug you every ride then stick with it. Mine is all I need in a bike (GS 1250 Exclusive) and I struggled with the std/adv conundrum before I bought it. Spoked wheels, upper and lower crash bars from Touratech and that much favoured MRA screen made the bike look and feel great for me. I guess once I added the BMW aux lights and a full set of yes, Touratech luggage 🙄, I'd have spent the same as buying the Adventure version, in reality more. However, 'farkled up' I like the look of mine much more than the GS ADV Exclusive so as I say down to personal taste. A point on luggage systems if you go for it. Be careful with the width of the topbox in your set up. I've seen some set ups where folks can't tilt the pannier lids up properly due to the topcase getting in the way. As ever a cracking vid with clear audio and thoughtful presentation👍

    Hi Nick! If you had a 1200GS, I would say straight away "Yes, do it" but having a 1250, don't think it's the right thing, at least for now. The best scenario would be to give it a year more, enjoy your GS and then check again if your desire to trade is still applicable.
    I have an Africa Twin (just 1 year old) and I am scratching myself to buy also a 1250GSA Exclusive but in my case the difference is quite big, it's a step up in several ways. Even thought, I find it difficult to justify the GSA as my bike is like new and I mainly do offroad where the AT is really really good, so switching to a bigger beast is not probably the best. But, when doing on road trips, the wind protection and huge fuel tank make it all worth. I ride a lot with a mate with a 1200GSA and I started to love that thing since we switched bikes in 1 trip. Nevertheless, I will only trade it next year, as I still need to enjoy a bit more my AT. As for the GSA, not going for the gold wheels, have it on my AT, what a pain to keep them clean and shiny (also, due to the chain... something that is not part of a GS ehehe).
    Basically, justifying your trade is difficult as you are probably aware, it really comes down to the desire to get a new bike and if money is not an issue, go for it. Life is short! Stay safe.

      António Ramos Hi Antonio. I too thought Nick’s video was informative and interesting. I was also intrigued by your post which mirrors my situation to a tee. I have an’18 model AT Adv Sport which I am considering swapping over to the new 1250 GS Adv......ah but for the price difference. @ant_ramos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Pohlenzm Hi Manfred, thanks for the reply! I am more than happy to share my opinion, I apologize in advance for the long comment. My standard AT is a manual but I do get your point... DCT is really good, it's getting better and better and that is a really good selling point for Honda. BMW's quickshifter is pretty good, works up and down and it's smooth but yes... It's not like an auto gearbox. Have you compared the price of a GSA and the new AT Adventure Sports? Not sure where you are from but in some countries the price difference is around 1000€ and BMW has some good financial deals. That difference is not much and honestly, Honda priced the bike quite highly (but that's another topic, it's easy to understand why they did that, they wanted to clearly state which competition where they aiming at. It's a question if the bike is worth that or not). But... Focusing on the 1250GSA, I would go for it for 2 reasons: boxer engine (iconic & more powerful - not that you would need more power than an AT, let's be honest) and weight distribution, the GSA is so good on the twisties and also off road as the weight is concentrated bellow, with a low center of gravity. One thing that I hate in the AT is the fact it's too top heavy. The weight is focused on the top of the bike, lifting that bike from the ground is a real workout. If the money is not a really huge streach, go for it. And... I also get your point on the GS riding community. Is strong for sure.

      António Ramos Hi mate. Lovely to read your reply...and so soon. I am in Australia where the new AT in full spec is about $26.500. The GSAdv is around $31.000 so still a difference. Also, the depreciation on my Honda means any change over will be about $11,000. The AT is a beautiful bike and in DCT form like mine, SO easy to ride off road. ( though admittedly a bit boring on road. Not for lack of power, rather lack of things to do!) Biggest issue as you say, is it’s top heavy ness.

    • @ant_ramos
      @ant_ramos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pohlenzm No worries, love to chat about bikes! The price difference between the GSA and the AT Adventure Sports is quite substancial then... so if I got it right, in order to make the trade you will need to spend around 11.000$? That's something... (actually, I think it would be around the same in my scenario, 10.000€!). I think that a couple of simple questions could get you the answer you are looking for: Assuming that you really want to change your bike, if you bought a new AT Adventure Sports, will you be still thinking about a GSA? Desiring one? Asking yourself if you made the right purchase? Or will you be 100% happy? In my case, I know I will continue to find the bike not so great on road and continue to desire a GS, so I rather save more money to go for it.
      Nevertheless, there is the need to be financially responsible so I would only advice a purchase if you are able to financially reach out to a 1250GSA. If yes, go for it! Or you can try to check a fairly new 2018/2019 1200GSA that already have the TFT screen and all the good stuff. I have also checked that and it can be a good option sometimes but the BMW financial deals on new bikes are pretty good so for around 2000$ more I would rather have a new bike. Don't know how it is in Australia. Cheers!

    Nick, thanks for the nice review! Just before the lockdown in Belgium I switched from the F700 GS into the R1200 GSA LC from 2015. I hand no doubt what so ever... I had to have an adventure because of all the features that you have indicated in you video. The 2 main reasons to go for the adventure were for me the significant larger fuel range as well as the better standard equipment. As everybody knows in Europe we don t have a problem finding petrol stations around every corner of the street, but I am a guy that wants to fuel the bike wants it and not when the bike needs it (you see what I mean). As you have indicated, the extra weight is not at all an issue. What is also great on the GSA are bigger very solid foodpegs.

    You're in a win/win situation either way. I switched from a Ducati Multistrada to a 1250 GSA and I went the GSA route because my friends ride them and the internet says you should. Unfortunately, I lost that bike in an accident and while I had no complaints with the GSA, I was reluctant to replace my GSA with another GSA.
    My reasons:
    - I've never been on a significant ride with only GSA riders so fuel stops are more frequent than even required on a GS.
    - I don't like riding with side cases on the bike unless I'm on a trip and, to me, the GSA looks like an overweight middle-aged man trying to fit into skinny jeans without the side cases on. :)
    - The width of the tank precluded me from seeing where I was going to put my feet when coming to a stop
    - The bike handled less sharply than my Multi (no real surprise there). But I felt the smaller GS would likely feel slightly more sharp and I do like how much lighter it feels. How light a bike feels is may be personal but I spend quite a bit of time in the mountains and while I had no issue handling either, I prefer the way the GS feels.
    So, upon re-purchase, I bought the GS HP with the taller suspension. I also added the lower OEM crash bar and mounted Erica and Darla Clearwater lights so I have plenty of road presence. :D
    Decide with confidence, either is great!
    My decision in the next year is a bit more difficult for me. I'm either going back to a Multistrada or adding a Streetfighter V4S as a stable mate to the GS.

    Hello Nick. Excellent video very well presented. You have some thinking to do !!!. The GS TE is an excellent bike I had the 1200 version. It did everything I wanted it to even passed my ROSPA test on it.
    All good until I test-rode a GSA 1200, that was before the 1250 was launched. The bike rode a little better than my GS, the weight was no issue, it handled I found easier very nimble for its weight. Wind protection much better, I find the wind hits the top of my shoulders, and goes just over my head, no helmet buffering. Comfort very good, performance excellent 55 to the gallon.
    I bought one and love it, I am not saying it’s ‘way better’ the the GS TE but for me the GSA is better for my needs. The bike came with the BMW hard cases attached ‘result’ there, but my old GS I bought GiVI Dolomite Trekker cases in black and they are much better than the BMW stuff.
    If you choose to have the GSA you will not regret it, it’s a step up and does have more road presence, all around a brilliant bike. Down to you now mate, hope my comments help. Good stuff.

    All I did on my 1250Gs was fit the same screen as on the GSA. The downside to all these big screens winglets and so on is on a hot day boy you wish they weren’t there.
    The bike chucks out a lot of heat as it is. The reason I didn’t get the GSA was it is taller on the new bike compared to the GS ( suspension travel I believe is more )and for 90% of the time you spend riding you look as if your off on a world tour when your not which is daft. 300 miles with no break not for me even before 200 miles I would have stopped for a coffee or whatever. Is it worth the extra money?.. only you can tell! i personally would keep the GS and fit the adventure screen to it if that's a plus for you. I found the standard GS screen directed all the wind to my crash helmet, it didn't matter which position it was set at, making for a very noisy ride. i fitted a sports screen that looks really good, it sits just above the satnav and it is much quieter and you get clean air on you which i prefer. the larger tank on the adventure could occasionally be a plus but I'm not sure if it's worth extra just for that. It has more presence though but I'm not sure if other traffic would notice it more than a standard GS with the extra lights on like you have

    Ha ha man maths at it's best 😉. I'm on my 3rd GS TE now and it's big enough for me but I'm only 5'7". A mate who's had both recons the GSA is a little more planted but the GS is a bit more nimble because of it's slightly lighter weight and the alloy wheels being lighter so it turns a bit quicker? If you do change you'll find the spoked wheels a PITA to keep clean if that's a concern and I'd recommend you get the tank coated in the protective plastic film from Nippy's as the matt paint Mark's ever so easily. You'd already made up your mind on the road down to the test to get the GSA. But saving a years road tax and a few more miles range in the tank seem pretty poor reasons to swap a bike with hardly any miles on it and spend £5k plus luggage just for the fun of it. Buy a GSA screen and a set of lights and you've got all the wind protection and "precense"you'll ever need.

The extra 10 litres will be less efficient than 20l and if you'd have ridden the last 9000 miles on a GSA you would have saved 45 minutes of forecourt time!! Re presence, how many motorists are really gonna notice you that much more. Watching your videos, you're no fool, don't do it, swap? Yer why not, your heads is heading that way, but just go buy a after market screen for a normal GS and swap the extras over. Be interested to know how much difference the small wonder deflectors make.
    27.02 mins, show an ill fitting jacket flapping around. Yer maybe less so on the GSA, but no the less. I took a Tiger 1200 out and the wind protection was too good, it felt like a car with the windows up! Spoilt the ride. Good vids by the way 👍

      I went to a BMW dealer in Melbourne soon after I bought my GS in November 2018. In fact Australia was still awaiting its launch. It had a BMW museum upstairs and we had a great chat with the guy who owned them. Can’t remember the district but have pictures on my phone. Vic certainly is going through it again. Stay safe 👍🏻

    It's brilliant I have the adventure hp te the only nit pick I have is that my right leg gets a bit warm in hot weather i don't know if you have the same thing on the gs.

    Hi Nick
    Congrats on your upgrade choice. I've had my R1250 GSA TE since spring 2019 and its a super machine. However, I've had a major issue with the front calipers leaking brake fluid. Leaking whilst standing over a period of time when I noticed drips on the wheel and garage floor. It took a good 3 months to get them replaced and I've not had any problems since. BMW UK at the time were 'super' reluctant to admit any fault with the product and the dealer seemed to be in the dark as well. Initially they could not even provide a lead time on replacement parts which I interpreted as being ". . . get in the queue . . ." I cannot find any recall info in the UK BUT there is a recall in the USA as per following link (www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2020/BMW/R%2525201250%252520GS).
    Good luck on your new purchase.

      Cheers. BMW are always reluctant to admit any issue. My favourite is the oil light on the first screen of the TFT. Most of the time it’s just greyed out. Very, very occasionally green. I asked at service and they gave me the bulletin. Could make much out of it apart from basically the moon needed to be blue, you needed to have your underwear on backwards and odd socks on. Noticed in the latest TFT software update..... they removed it from that screen 😂😂 just a gap where it used to be. Ride safe 👍🏻

    I have done it already. I regret. Too tall, too top heavy. If your are not tall and strong, absolutely get the « low chassis » option. I miss the nimbleness and feeling of the GS.
