Maybe you need HD voxels, for example when you play Voxel Doom, objects don't rotate while you circle them, but those sprites are "pixelated", to fit in a classic style. HD voxels should be easier, I guess, since you use your own ideas for the sprites, not trying to imitate every pixel.
