    Don't forget the Frontier Pro4x also has a locking Dana 44 in the rear, spicer transfer case and dana front axle. Not to mention you can titan swap the suspension including the 5.6 V8 engine since it sits on a titan half ton frame:)

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is your source for the transfer case and front axle info. Unless it has recently changed the transfer case is a TX15 which I don't think is a Dana. The front axle is the R180A. I agree the rear M226 is the same as the axle sitting in the Jeep, but I an unsure about the other parts you mentioned.

    Here's what I would do taking into consideration a $20K delta in price if I had to act to day. Buy the Nissan and invest the other $20K into a depressed S&P mutual fund and watch that turn into $30K before long and then go after that $60K Jeep in 2022 which by then you'll be able to bargain down to $53K.

    • @GregKittle
      @GregKittle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      derek flint I don’t entirely disagree with you, but just to clarify a couple of things. First, nobody buys a vehicle as an investment. For vehicles like a Corvette or a 4x4, we buy them because they’re fun to own and bring us joy. Second, where on earth do you find a mutual fund that increases by a factor of 10 (likely a lot more if you use your scenario) in a decade or two. Sounds like a gross exaggeration to make a point if you ask me.

      Jeep is cheep, even though it's expensive. It's a FIAT now. Nissan built a new engine just for its trucks, while Fiat uses whatever they've got lying around. They know people will buy it, so they don't care, just like Toyota doesn't care about poor shifting transmissions or gutless gas guzzling engines. Fanboys are very loyal.

More tech means more to go wrong in 8-10 years. 90% of people who buy this Jeep will never do any real off-roading. I'll be hanging on to my 15mpg 2007 Nismo Frontier until the frame rusts through. 6-speed manual, 6-foot bed, no frills, paid off, and works like a charm - just like a truck should.

      I wasn’t implying anything about impressing anyone. The review was for two mid-sized trucks, and how good they are for off road. The truck should impress the driver, not others. The Frontier has nothing that would impress someone that’s looking for a truck to use off road. That, and it has poor styling, when compared to other trucks on the market.

    I can't say really which truck I would buy but there's a lot of things I could do with ~$20k. I could take a chunk of that and put into the Nissan to make it more capable, but realistically I feel people should just wait and consider the 2021 Frontier instead.

    Less tech makes driver skill more important. The Nissan is very good value. Jeeps focus has always been offroading. Im biased I bought a frontier for the value but also that it's simple and more compact, the most compact of the new midsize which in itself is a advantage offroad. To each there own but for money saved in the frontier you can do some nice up grades to improve and still have left over in that price gap. I wouldn't personally spend 60k on a mid size truck. That frontier is the same price Canadian aswelll. My focus Isn't only offroading though so another reason I avoided the jeep

Then again I only paid 37k for my 18 trd sport tundra brand new so I'd probably do that again before going with anything midsized.

    I don’t see the point of that comparative test. One is a light truck that eventually can go to light to medium off-road and the second is an 4x4 truck for medium to heavy off-road that can eventually be used as a cargo truck with the restrictions of a small bed. Different vehicles with a huge difference in price. No sense in comparing them but to create content to TH-cam.

    $ vs purpose. Is there more that needs to be said? lol Track record of reliability has been established in the Nissan. Give the Gladiator 10 years of life and stack up the repair records and then there will be a fair comparison on that. Hopefully for Jeep enthusiasts the FICA brand will stack up to the Nissan/Toyota brand and the choice between will get harder to make. Functionality and capability, there is no argument(by me)that the Gladiator has some girth over the Nissan. Only time will tell if the hype over Gladiators is well founded.

      Chops 00 right.. so you saying they “go for $30k” is based a different model and not the same config as you’ve listed. Since it has the newer technology there’s no reason they should “sell around the same”, though it might seem nice. Plus, no actual price has been released, they state in the video it is “approximately $40k”. Deals will be had on the 2019’s and 2020’s after this pandemic dies down and especially when the 2021 is released
